I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes, a shock. The GP called me to advise on blood test, gave me a prescription. It took several phone calls to book an appointment with the diabetic nurse for advice 10 weeks after diagnosis. I was very ill with side effects of drugs, I couldn't get an appointment, my pharmacist eventually advised me to stop medication & e-consult GP asking for a certain medication. There was no communication between the GP at QuarterJack & the diabetic nurse at old dispensary site. Apparently they don't share same computer systems despite being the one practice. I trued to get an appointment for a cervical smear. no appointments available. on another matter I asked for a follow-up with a female GP. I was refused, advised I coukd only boom with my registered male GP or registrar but that appointment could change & couldn't be guaranteed to be female. At this point I moved to a different surgery. I actually work in NHS & know this is bad practice.

Dear patient Thank you for your feedback and I am very sorry to hear about your difficulty in accessing an appointment with our diabetes nurse. As you have listed your comments anonymously I am unable to look into this in any great depth, however, I can answer some of the points raised: The Old Dispensary and The Quarter Jack Surgery are partially merged, the full merge is scheduled by NHS Dorset for March 2024. Both IT systems are available for all staff to access. The Diabetes appointments are primarily for routine appointments, and the waiting times are longer for these. If you were unwell with side effects of a new medication, then an appointment with your GP would have been more appropriate. With regard to the Smear Tests, the appointments are routine and available to book up to 4 weeks in advance. For example there are currently plenty of appointments available in the 3 and 4th weeks. I am sorry there were none available when you checked. We have a limited number of female GPs, so it is not always possible to book a female GP at short notice, however, we do have 5 experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners who are all female and are happy to see patients on a daily basis. I hope the above gives some explanation to your comments and I am very sorry we have failed to meet your expectations. Do email us directly on quarterjack.surgery@nhs.net if you would like any further information.

  2. Review titled Prompt service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Despite ringing when surgery first opened at 8.30, phone was answered within a reasonable timeframe. Offered an appointment an hour later and my medical problem was dealt with by a friendly professional nurse practitioner. As someone who deals infrequently with the surgery, I was reassured that I was able to get timely help when I needed it.
