  1. Review titled Has really gone down hill

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 November 2024

The Smithy has really gone downhill over the past few years, possibly since the big healthcare company took them over. It is almost impossible to get an appt and the archaic ringing at 8am and sitting in a queue is still alive and well in this surgery. I was sent a text and asked to contact to make an appt for a review of blood pressure meds and was told (after a long wait on the phone) that the diary for November wasn't open yet, this was the 28th October and the 1st of November was within the same working week! By the time I called back later in the week and then got a phone appt the following week I was out of medication, the doctor who called me had not read my notes and questioned why I was out of medication. Some of the staff over the phone are helpful and others make you feel like an inconvenience for daring to ask to see a doctor. I do avoid going if I can but I have been a patient here for many many years and the decline is evident.

Thank you for your feedback. We do release appointments for nurses at least 2 months in advance, with some appointments staggered for more urgent needs, GP, ANP & Pharmacist appointments are staggered with some bookable up to 6 weeks in advance however once they have gone we operate on a staggered appointment basis with appointments being released within a few days up to 2 weeks for urgent needs. I do apologise if this was not fully explained to you so your feedback is important to us. We are also have also started some refurbishment works and once complete we hope to have a new blood pressure machine for the waiting room so patients can submit readings themselves without the need for an appointment to help with blood pressure medication reviews and we are also exploring enhancements to our current digital offer to reduce call wait times in the new year which we hope will improve the patient experience given the increasing demands for appointments. Should you wish to contact me to discuss further please contact the practice to ask to speak to the Senior Operations Manager. Thank you.

  2. Review titled Great practice but some improvements could be done

Rated 4 stars out of 5

All the staff i encounter are very helpful and friendly , i do however have 2 things which i am not happy with One is to re order meds you have to either go into surgery or use the App , i feel this is really not patient based or helpful in anyway Also the notice on the door of one appointment one problem is very passive aggressive and again not very patient friendly

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We do encourage patients to use the NHS app if they can as this is the most efficient way to order prescriptions as they are sent direct to a clinician. This reduces any errors and more importantly saves patients time from coming to the surgery. Patients can however post them at the surgery via our post box, speak to our reception team in person, request via their pharmacy to order or if vulnerable we do accept over the phone. The posters in the practice are currently being updated by our communications team and the one appointment poster has been removed from most rooms so we will endeavour to remove any others that remain. Thank you for your positive feedback regarding the team - I will ensure they receive this. Regards Senior Operations Manager

  4. Review titled Poor follow up

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 October 2023

On the 6th of October I had a phone consultation with a doctor about back pain. He was really helpful saying he would prescribe pain killer and send it through to the chemist urgently. This was at 11am. I rang back at 2pm to see if it had been sent only to be told that it would not be sent until Monday. So I have to spend the weekend in agony just because they couldn’t get the paperwork through. By the way the chemist is a 2 minute walk from the surgery. Poor in my view

  5. Review titled Great service and extremely helpful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Your Review: Dear Surgery I have made a last minute urgent request for medication on behalf of my client who has recently been discharged from Hospital. She is staying with her parents out of area and needed urgent medication. The Receptionist was so knowledgeable and could not do enough to help resolve the situation. She liaised with the doctor, acknowledged my email/s, coordinated the medication, made contact with the client and gained information regarding the out of area pharmacy - making the process as seamless as possible. I was very impressed when she called me to feedback and stated she had also contacted the patient to update. What a brilliant service and a lovely helpful member of staff. Really appreciate and please log this professional feedback as a compliment to the surgery.
