Review titled never any appointments
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 April 2023
I have experienced unacceptable problems in being able to get phone consultations with Doctors for reviews as per their request. My experience over the last 6 months has shown it is virtually impossible to get a physical appointment (non-emergency) and pot luck for phone consultations. In December 2022 I waited 4 weeks for a paramedic appointment as no Doctor appointments were available to be told I needed to see a Doctor. Today I phoned for a second time as per receptionist's instruction having called 4 weeks ago as per the GP's request when there were no available appointments. I was told once more that all phone appointments are now booked up to mid-May and I would need to call back again or request a same day appointment. It appears that phone appointments are block released but no one is able to say when these are released meaning it is easy to find yourself in a situation whereby no appointments are available time after time. This is an increasingly untenable situation to be in. I am concerned at the advice to call for an on the day appointment as I do not need an emergency appointment and risk taking this from someone else - that is if you can get through which is impossible. By the time you wait your turn all appointments are gone. I can see the surgery is still accepting patients however it seems unable to cope with demand. As a patient I am unable to access services, even at the request of the GP so I have no idea what to do next.

Dear anonymous, Thank you for your feedback. Since last summer almost all of our appointments are patient choice as to being a phone call or face to face unless you are booking into a specific phone review clinic. Sadly due to the demand on GP services post covid we often run a 4 weeks wait for a pre-bookable appointment. Our daily appointments are not emergency, these are on the day bookable as well so please do not worry about taking them. Our pre-bookable appointments are released in a staggered manor to try and spread the availability, unfortunately even with our new GP's joining the team we could fill them twice over. We are aware that nationally there is a need for more GP's and we strive to ensure the patient needs are met. If you have an interest in having a say, please join our PPG Patient Participation Group where you can find out more on how things are done and what is being done to improve our service. As you have posted anonymously I can't offer further help but please do contact me through the website for further assistance. Kind regards Beth

Both myself and my husband have always received excellent service from tower house. On this particular occasion the paramedic nurse went one step further. What was a serious concern to us reference our grandson was seen through and completed, care, skill and patience.

Review titled Warm, family-friendly practice, safe pair of hands

We've been with Tower House Surgery for a decade and it has been a largely positive experience. Obviously no place is perfect. Getting appointment is unfortunately a bit of a lottery ticket but this is not peculiar to Tower House. However, their doctors are positively wonderful, caring, and committed. Their asthma treatment management is world class. Their doctors and of course the very cheerful nursing staff really care about their patients.

Dear Patient, Thank you for sparing the time to give such lovely feedback. We are aware of so many issues that can be frustrating to patients and we try so very hard to prevent these however sometimes we just can't stretch anymore. That is why such feedback is very much appreciated to show our team that it really is worth their efforts. I will certainly pass your comments on. Many thanks Beth Sergiou Practice Manager

Review titled Expedient referral

I have had a flair up of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis in the past weeks. My visits to the surgery have been efficient and very fruitful. Each time I have seen the paramedic staff who were very empathetic and kind. My condition is frustrating and tiring which they understood and were able to give me appropriate creams and meds to help ease the symptoms for me. They have also referred me to Reumatology and Dermatology specialist and I am pleasantly surprised to have my first appointment within 3 weeks. I really appreciate the care and attention to detail and to make me feel at ease and comfort. Thank you so much.

Review titled Staff are supportive

I was called by the surgery regarding a letter they had received from secondary care. Call was unexpected for me. I was busy at the time of the call and they agreed to call me later at a time that was more convenient. The Pharmacist who called me to ask a question about the contents was really helpful and supportive. Considering she wasn't expecting the call to involve me not to be in a good way at the time of the call. She was patient and listened and without her call I don't think I would have called in to ask for what I needed. She helped remind me that I needed help and has put things in place to allow for me to be supported medically, so I can focus on what I need to right now.

After passing on the knowledge to my doctor that I had a fear of needles they helped me out a great deal. My doctor made the blood test that I had done very very manageable to me, they were fast and precise and event went above and beyond in getting my results back to me very quickly. I couldn’t recommend the staff at Tower House enough!

Review titled Receptionist

I called the practice today to request some more milk thickner for my 2 month old daughter who suffers with reflux. I have done this twice before over the phone and there has been no problems. I would like you to bare in mind I live half hour walk away from the practice and do not drive. When I called I was told that there was nothing they could do but come and put a prescription in at the practice as this is the new rules. I appreciate that very much but my daughter in on her very last bit of thickner and needs it desperately otherwise she suffers with reflux, the receptionist rudely told me that it was my fault and I should have given it a week before it ran out. Number one, the milk thickner only lasts a week and number two if you had given warning to all patients before this rule change then nobody would have this problem. I feel it is ridiculous that I am made to walk all the way there just to put in a new prescriptions every week. I explained all of this to her just to be met with one minute of silence before she hangs up on me. I'm not normally one to complain like this as the receptionists are usually very pleasant but I feel guilty now that my daughter will suffer with reflux as the receptionist made me feel like this. I have since brought some myself out of pocket which I can't really afford at the moment as I am that desperate. Just give people more of a warning next time, it's not hard.

Dear Anonymous, It is difficult for me to answer this without being specific about your interactions with the surgery. We have not taken prescription requests over the phone for some years now. I would be more than happy to discuss your situation further with you. Kind regards Beth Sergiou Practice Manager

Review titled Excellent, thorough care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by ELP - Posted on 17 January 2024
I have been fortunate enough to be with this practice since I moved to High Wycombe in 2008. I have seen several doctors over the years, all helpful, kind, and professional. Recently I saw one of the senior partners who gave her usual top notch care: pro-active, efficient, reassuring. Also, for a cold that had developed into tonsilities and a sinus infection, I was able to see one the practice's paramedics on the day I contacted the surgery. A thorough exam and a prescription from her soon sorted out my condition. A new system is in place which makes it much easier to see a health care professional in good time and I have always been grateful and pleased with the care I have received including thorough examinations, proactive referrals, and help with prescriptions.

Dear ELP, Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback, it really means a lot to the team. We have received a positive response from most patients regarding the triage system for on the day appointments and website bookings for routine appointments. Sadly we still have a lot of appointments not attended which is a source of great frustration as you can imagine. I will certainly pass on your feedback. Kind regards Beth Sergiou Practice Manager

Review titled Fantastic Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Chantal Rowland - Posted on 27 January 2023
I’ve had an illness for several weeks and had a few in surgery and phone appointments. I cannot stress enough how impressed I have been with the service and care I’ve received. Both doctors I saw were exceptional they were caring, explained why I’m feeling so poorly and detailed the medication I was receiving and why. The receptionists were also very polite and understanding during all calls.
