Review titled Brilliant Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Traci K - Posted on 20 June 2024
I registered on the online triage service at 7.30am last Friday, received an appointment by text at 9.30am, attended my appointment at 12.15pm and had an appointment at the hospital - for the following week - by 2.30pm. I cannot fault the service at Westcroft Health Centre. Thank you to all involved.

Review titled A great first experience and an improvement opportunity
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Chris Brown - Posted on 28 May 2024
I recently registered here after a house move. I have been lucky with three out of four gp practices in Milton Keynes over the years, so had high expectations. I was impressed immediately with the online triage for requesting care, this was new to me. I submitted a request at 7.30am and was called in to see a gp at 8.50 the same day, can't really ask for better service. I explained my concern and he sent an email to mkuh dermatology team as I sat there. I received mkuh treatment eight days later, it turned out to be urgent, necessary and effective. I subsequently received a phone call from my actual gp asking about the mkuh care plan, which is first rate, then asked me if I had any concerns. As it happens I was experiencing some very new symptoms, unrelated to dermatology, so I mentioned this. Turns out it was side effects from some medication I was taking, I had recently increased the dose to the recommended level, and did not think it would cause a problem. I followed the gp advice and reduced the dose again and side effects receded within a couple of days. I was particularly impressed that this was resolved over the phone, although I have had a follow up consultation now to review the medication again. Here is the improvement opportunity and it is a big one. Whilst waiting in reception, I notice the screen showing nhs services, which included the Mk Talking Therapies self referral option. Now, I having been looking for extra support from the nhs for a family member without success for quite a while. At the end of my GP face to face consultation, I asked about NHS services for a family member, who is not likely to self refer. I mentioned the Talking Therapies team, he just confirmed that I can't refer on a family members behalf. That was it, no other mention of relevant nhs support. So I did more online research, and set off in search of the local crisis cafe, the big new volunteer run government initiative. It is not sign posted from the road but I did spot an "Inclusion Centre" sign next to a school, so I went to reception to ask where the cafe was. Turns out is it an NHS wellbeing hub during office hours, so I received all the information I needed to help my family member in the time it took the receptionist to make me a cup of tea and listen to my request. It is self referral again, but the difference is that other family members can attend. Which is ideal, so we shall take that route. It is quite difficult to comprehend that this service has not been mentioned to either myself or my family member during any consultation with multiple health professionals, so the improvement opportunity is not restricted to this health centre, I would say. It is just more than disappointing that I didn't do this extra research earlier. Of course someone who needs that support is unlikely to do the relevant research at all. I am confident now that we will get the care my family member needs, from the service that has been established for two years to do so.

Much too difficult to get help. No one to speak to to help navigate services only directed to do it myself online. 0/10 from me.

I have severe COPD, the amount if times they mess up my prescription is unreal, I'm always chasing them. Say they will call back and don't, trying to get an appointment is like trying to get blood from a stone. I've even resorted to buying some meds online so I'm not without Would not recommend this practice at all....

I was very concerned when they went over to the new online booking system as we have had such a bad experience with a similar system at our mother's practice nearby. Well, I need not have worried as this seems to be working a treat and if anything my experience is better than before. I always get a quick response and have never had an issue getting an appointment, either in person or via telephone. The staff are always friendly and helpful! Well done Westcroft Health Centre. Keep up the good work, it is much appreciated.

Review titled Office not up to standard
Rated 3 stars out of 5

My experience with the office staff and the receptionists has been such that I'm sure they have reduced my life expectancy by several years. I think the team of doctors is good, some of the nurses are excellent, and I can't comprehend why the partners won't employ administrators to match their standards. Surely this should be much easier than the other way round?

Review titled Worst Practise avoid at all cost
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Diane Hawreliak - Posted on 21 April 2023
Absolutely dreadful you can’t get appointments for anything. The one I finally did manage to get was because I rang 111 and they called the practise to see me asap. I’ve been off work with a chest infection. Self certified first 7 days was seen by a DR and diagnosed. After course of treatment wasn’t clear couldn’t get an appointment so went to urgent care on the clinics advice. Was put on second course of treatment. In this time I have also spoke to 2 online drs and 111. I need a sick note for work and they won’t give me one without a face to face appointment, that you can’t make because they are booked. I have been ringing the office every morning at 8 am as policy (after 500 attempts) I atill can’t get through! Why do they need to see me face to face if that busy??? The dr did see me just didn’t give me a sick nite at that point. Then they tell you to use their online services. I go online to get a sick note it says make an appointment. I go online to make an appointment and up to July 1st nothing available. I need a medical report for employer and have been told a minimum 28 days and that is after expressing it is extremely urgent and I will pay whatever fee to complete but will not have job without it. They don’t care about anyone. I am convinced they just have the phones set on engaged and don’t have appointments. We just ring for no reason. On Wednesday I even asked if I could at least book an appointment for Thursday or Friday, was told no they didn’t have any however ring first thing for emergency appointment. You ring at 8 and if you get through by 9:30 you are lucky. I have never in my life dealt with a clinic so u organised. The left hand doesn’t k ow what the right hand is doing. For my report I was told to ring the medical secretary direct…4 days of ringing them and I’m still waiting for someone to pick up the phone. The reception ain’t at the front had to go make sure they were all alive because no one answers the phone. Do not waste your time with this clinic, they take you on as a new patient and that is the last time you see them!!!!

Review titled An injection of customer service is needed
Rated 1 star out of 5

An injection of customer service is needed at this surgery. Whilst my experience with the GPs/Clinical team has been good, I am sure I'm not alone when I say you sense the "no can do" attitude from the admin & support team at this surgery before you have even made a request. I tried calling 5 times and each time I spent between 28mins-43mins waiting for a someone to pick up the phone, which no-one did. A visit to the surgery did little to improve my experience. When I politely asked if there was a medical secretary working that day the receptionist confirmed there was. When I explained that I couldn't get through on the phone the receptionist said I was "calling the wrong person because they don't deal with the matter I needed help with". How can she know this when no one answered the phone to hear what I needed help with! This particular receptionist had a confrontational manner and was immediately defensive, probably because has to deal with this question all day everyday. It's alright saying you are now only accepting online enquiries but as a GP Practice, you have a duty to answer your phones which might make the support team feel less compelled to be so defensive and lead to better quality interactions with your customers. Definitely scope for improvement

Review titled Bad practise

I have tried to make an appointment for my wife, but after waiting on the phone for 65 min before being able to talk to someone I was told that they don't have any appointments and I must try the next day. I think the reason for this is that none of the doctors there work a full week most work 3 and 4 days a week, this is not the first time this has happend.
