Review titled Awful, or rather no service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 May 2024
I've been trying to book an appointment with a doctor for my son and myself for the last two weeks without any luck. Even though my 9yo son was heavily bleeding from his nose for a week, all they could do is to offer him a "routine appointment" in 3 weeks time! I agree with other reviews which say that getting through the phone in the morning is generally next to impossible. Even though I managed to get through the phone eventually on the occasions, every I was told that, regardless of an issue (we had 4 different reasons to see the doctor) there is no doctor that can see my son or myself and we should just go to a walk-in centre instead! Today I thought that finally I will get an appointment as I managed to get through on the 1st call at 8am and I was 4th in the queue. to my surprise (or not?) they said that they do not have any appointments for today, that they are all gone! How is that possible? As a "justification", they said that this is because they are "a very busy surgery with 15,000 patients" (yes, fifteen thousand) but this NHS site states that they're still accepting new patients! Why are new patients being accepted if you cannot handle what you have already? Please note that according to the 2011 census Hucknall has a population of 30,000 so it seems that something is not right at this surgery, or we should not be surprised that it's next to impossible to get an appointment. I think that they pick and choose who they will give an appointment on the day as it's really hard to believe that there is no appointments left if you're 4th in a queue at 8am. I also agree with other comments that there is no continuity with the doctors. Last time I was seen for 1 issue by 3 different doctors, where each doctor had their own ideas what the issue is and how to treat it. Given my experience over the last 2 weeks I believe that "routine appointments" in 3 weeks time is the only thing that they can offer currently to the patients. Another issue at this surgery is lack of information and misinformation - depending on who you talk to they will tell you different things, often contradictory. For example I was told that you must call to get an appointment, but today I was told that you can also queue at the door to get an appointment, about which I asked explicitly previously as my gut feel was that this would be more effective that trying to get through the "We're sorry but we're extremely busy today" phone call. Another issue is favouring mothers over fathers - they ask me/father with full parental rights if the mother knows and gave permission for the child to be seen/treated! I tried to contact the leading doctor who manages the surgery about this but it's very difficult and the reception cannot help as they "don't manage the lead diary" Seems that this surgery is very, very disorganised. The surgery used to be good but I definitely cannot recommend it in 2024 and I will change it after they see us for the "routine appointment" in 3 weeks

Excellent service received yesterday by the receptionist on the desk yesterday morning (26/03/2024) who showed empathy and compassion enabling my father to get the treatment he very much needed. Thank you.

Review titled No appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5

Trying to get into this practice to see a doctor is a joke if you phone at 8am you can't get through, going down at 8am no appointments .Had to travel to newark just to be seen.Had an xray I was told by the hospital I must be seen by my gp also told this by 911.Phone the practice again and was told guess what no appointments again and to phone back at 8am even though 911 and the hospital had referred me.Tried again for the next 2 days started phoning at 7.58 still couldn't get through straight onto answer machine. Whoever is in charge of this practice needs to sort this out, obviously we all know the nhs is under alot of pressure but talking to family and friends who live all around Nottinghamshire no one has the trouble that people going to whyburn have getting to see a gp. They've have too many patients for not enough doctors so as I write this in pain I still can't get into whyburn.

Review titled Joining as a new patient - fantastic
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sarah Naylor - Posted on 07 March 2024
I’ve recently changed to this practice and the comparison with my previous practice is like night and day. To join, I’ve had 3 interactions with reception and a new patient appointment with the pharmacist. The staff have been so kind and helpful. Things are so much more thorough than the last place. I wish I’d switched years ago. I’m autistic and suffer from a mental health condition, and I can’t stress enough how much difference the attitudes of the staff I’ve encountered so far have made to how easy I found it to communicate with them. It’s been like a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much.

Review titled Who you gonna call? Not Whyburn!
Rated 1 star out of 5

86 call attempts in a day to try to speak to someone and make an appointment. 86 times of hearing that disingenuous "I'm sorry, due to exceptional high call demand at this time we have not been able to answer your call". Its not exceptional if it's Every. Single. Day. After a week of trying and failing to get an appointment, I had to queue on Monday outside the surgery. I arrived at 7:40 and there were already 20 people queuing in front of me, all with the same complaint about the phones. At 8:30 I'd finally got to the front and was given an appointment for a fortnights time. This appointment is needed for a potential Cancer concern, which they were informed of but obviously couldn't careless about. It's not like time is a factor with Cancer! How this practice is allowed to continue like this is beyond me. Utterly useless and failing the community. It's been like this since the practice was sold and it's getting worse by the day. The surgery is now just a skeleton of its former self, limping along with the naive hope that the "Super Health Centre" will actually appear and the Pac can cash out...

Review titled Poor patient service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 February 2024
I have been a patient of this surgery for 25yrs plus, and over the past year the patient service has been so very disappointingly poor. I had a discussion with the practice manager, but unfortunately nothing has changed. Today I visited the surgery to make an appointment to see a doctor again. The receptionist was failed to even listen to me and just kept saying we having no appointments you will need to call in the morning. I was not asking to see a doctor today but just to make an appointment next week. This made me feel like I was doing her a favour and I should not be there the way she behaved. I just walked away. If this is how they treat me I dread to think about how they treat other patients. She made me felt like awful. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

Review titled Awful
Rated 1 star out of 5

Patient here for over 40 years and have just moved elsewhere. In its day it was amazing but drastic decline now. Some of reception staff downright rude and unhelpful. Hardly any permanent drs. Mostly felt robbed off and not listened to when I was able to get an appointment - dreaded going ! Final straw was after having skin cancer and discharged from The hospital / told by a dr at this practice that I didn’t meet criteria to be referred back to dermatologist to have a mole I was concerned about checked. Had to go to walk in centre as was really ill at beg of year / absolutely amazing - drs thorough and despite wait was diagnosed and sorted with medication. Told to go back to own GP if condition didn’t clear for more meds. Tried to do this and was refused appt and more medication!!!! They are still sending some perscriptions to their onsight boots chemist which closed early last year 2023 - meaning delays to medications.

Review titled Bad administration

My partner passed away suddenly in Jan 2023 aged 51… myself and the life insurance company have contacted this surgery on numerous occasions to send the medical records over to them so we can get the morgage paid off! But keep getting no where with this ! And getting palmed off with we will call when done! Should have been done months ago!…As I am not only grieving the lost of my partner I am struggling to pay the morgage as it is on my own! Nearly a year down the line and still nothing! This has affected my mental health profoundly… you should be ashamed of yourselfs the pain and stress you have put me through regarding this situation very unprofessional to say the least!

Review titled Awful service provider.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Abbie - Posted on 09 October 2023
I am struggling with my mental health and need to arrange an appointment for therapy and antidepressants. The phone lines are always soo busy and automated response of “we’re too busy to take your call right now please try again soon”. Also, the online appointment booking system never has any availability so i am unable to get an appointment or to even express my concerns. Absolutely awful waste of time paying taxes if you cannot be given the service we pay for.

Review titled Awful experience everytime
Rated 1 star out of 5

Getting an appointment is the first task, then you arrive on time to be sat waiting for 45mins+. Every single time the appointments run late even when I've had the first appointment of the morning I've never been seen on time. Reception staff are rude when asked about the delay. Once in the appointment you see a member of staff that cannot even prescribe your tablets so it's another wait for a Dr to prescribe then I was told it would be sent to one pharmacy and instead it was sent to another so you then are sent on a wild goose chase trying to find your prescription. Avoid!
