Review titled Telephone appointment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lesley B - Posted on 11 June 2024
The practice offered a same day telephone appointment with a practice nurse who couldn't have been more professional and pleasant. Due to the series of questions she asked, being given plenty of time to answer and feeling more relaxed in my own home, I could explain nature of my condition fully without embarrassment. Advice on how to help manage my symptoms and a plan of action moving forward were the outcome. For me, this is a process improvement that worked. Any reservations about having a telephone consultation where appropriate have now gone completely. Thank you, Wickham Market practice.

Review titled Consistently providing excellent care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mr English - Posted on 20 April 2024
For over 17 years my family (three generations), have consistently received excellent care from this GP practice. From ongoing complex acute conditions to routine ailments the care has always been first class. My recent appointment in February was no exception, I was able to easily book the appointment for the following week. On arrival the receptionist was helpful and polite and the GP took the necessary time to review my problem and arrange for an ultrasound. Given what we hear about the service in some other areas, I feel very fortunate to have such a practice. It’s an example of the NHS at its best!

Review titled Totally humiliated in public
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 July 2023
I was upset and crying by how the receptionist had spoken to me - it felt like I was being 'told off' for having asked 3 times in the last month for an appointment for my child, who is a student 350 miles away, but home for 2 months. I then had to stand in the corridor, in front of a queue of people and so that the whole waiting room could hear me, whilst crying, trying to ask how to get an appointment for my child, who is in a lot of pain. It wasn't an emergency, but all I wanted was to find out how to make an appointment over the next month for my child as a temporary resident, but I was not allowed, because she is registered 350 miles away and we were told we had to go to that doctor. I felt totally humiliated and am now too scared to go back to this establishment. It is also totally wrong and humiliating to have to say in a public corridor what the medical problem is, so that everyone in the building can hear.

Dear patient, Thank you for your review of our practice. We will use your comments as a learning event for staff training. All patients regardless of whether they are permanent or temporary residents are asked for a brief description by our Care Navigators as to why they require an appointment at the practice. This is to ensure that the patient is directed to the most appropriate clinician for their care. The patient is under no obligation to explain if they do not wish to and all patients privacy rights are maintained. Patients calling in at the main reception are able to request to be seen in a side room to discuss matters if they feel uncomfortable speaking at the desk. I am sorry that you felt you were humiliated during your visit to make an appointment for your teenager who is home from University. This was never the intention of the staff. I hope the telephone call you received from the Practice Manager immediately following your visit has gone some way to alleviate your concerns. Any person can apply to register as a Temporary Resident if they are away from home and wish to ensure while they are away that they can be seen when required for any immediate or necessary treatment. We advise, where possible, for continuity of care that patients with a long term condition arrange to speak with their registered GP initially as they have access to their full medical records.
