  1. Review titled Outstanding service at Minor Injuries Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Matt - Posted on 19 October 2024

This hospital is an old building, it doesn't appear to have enjoyed the same investment as the hospitals in the two neighbouring towns. With that said; as a patient I don't think the building is the important factor - it is the staff that work there. I can't speak highly enough about the amazing staff here from the receptionists to the clinical staff; they are all individually professional, caring & helpful, and together they are an efficient team that quite clearly are dedicated to patient service. They don't have the shiny new buildings like the neighbouring towns - I would guess that makes their jobs more difficult - but they do have an incredible professional commitment and (from my personal experience) the quality of service here is better than the new shiny hospitals in the next towns. This isn't a one-off experience. I was here approx. 18 months ago with a very similar injury and my experience was just as good. This shows me that they are consistent. I'd rate the staff here as providing the best experience I have had with the NHS - and would go so far as to say that, in my opinion, the NHS should consult them as an example of 'best practice'. Thank you Minor Injuries team - I sincerely hope that my comments will be read and that your team will be acknowledged for the brilliant work you do every day (including weekends!)

  2. Review titled Waste of time

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Dave - Posted on 24 June 2024

I had waited 9 months for a referral to the respiratory consultant, my appointment was 2pm but they were running 45 minutes late! A new doctor agreed to see me and spent 30 minutes recapping my symptoms because she didn’t have access to a computer, she then saw the consultant and said I needed an X-ray and blood test followed by a scan, unfortunately they couldn’t do the bloods or X-ray on the day because they were busy, just get it done before next appointment, about 12 weeks I was told, this is tricky as getting more time off work is difficult, I asked what would happen if I couldn’t do this in time and was told “I’m sure you will???!!!”. Came home with all forms but no idea what is going to happen

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Raymond Proctor - Posted on 03 April 2024

All the staff were really pleasant polite and professional, especially the nurses that treated me and the radiologist. Can not fault any part of my treatment. Not only that they really looked after my wife that didn’t feel very well. 11 at of 10

  4. Review titled What we all want the the NHS to be!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 February 2024

I attended Accrington Victoria Hospital this afternoon about 16.15 because last week tripped up and my physiotherapist who I see regularly for another problem examined my foot and was concerned that I might have broken a small bone in my foot and felt it should be xrayed. She suggested I go to the minor injuries department at Accrington if it didn’t settle down. Well although not swollen, after a week it is still very painful so this afternoon I did what she suggested. I was welcomed by a lovely receptionist who asked politely about my problem. She went and consulted with someone and told me a physiotherapist would see me and if necessary they would send me for an x-ray and then told me to take a seat in the waiting room. Within 2-3 minutes the physiotherapist called me in, took me into a clean cubicle, examined me and said he didn’t think it was broken but offered me an x-ray. I accepted and was sent straight to x-ray where I was seen immediately. 5 minutes later I was called back in to see the physiotherapist who confirmed my foot wasn’t broken and gave me advice about how to care for it until it healed. Fantastic team, courteous, kind, efficient and practical - what we all want from our NHS. I was in and out in about 45 minutes. Thank you so much

  5. Review titled Minor injuries unit/xray

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 September 2023

Visited today 1/9/23 am. Found the receptionist, though very busy, was still kind and polite and apologised for the couple of minutes wait whist he was dealing with another person. Was seen by a nurse after a very short wait and directed to X-ray. All the staff that I met in the X-ray department were kind and professional. After another short wait in the minor injuries waiting room my results were thoroughly explained to me by the same nurse. Very good experience here except that the temperature in the waiting room was 28c (I know this as there is a thermometer in the waiting room) and there was a cleaner in the corridor near reception using a buffing/mopping machine entangling peoples feet up in the wire as she went along, luckily people were paying attention to what she was doing.

  6. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Emilia - Posted on 17 September 2023

I visited today for an infected finger and was really nervous I would be turned away and sent to wait at the urgent care centre in Blackburn as my finger had started to turn purple but I was seen within 30 minutes and I was dealt with by a lovely nurse. Due to the policies I’m unable to name the nurse but would just like to leave a review on how friendly she was and how she put me at ease. She had to ask me a few personal questions and I was a bit nervous about the answers to some of them but she was very understanding and even praised me on overcoming certain barriers in my own life which was really nice as I’ve never been capable of giving myself that praise and because she noticed this, she made sure to big me up and tell me I’d been doing amazing. For documentation the nurse had to ask me what medication I was taking and due to it being a new medication for a recently diagnosed mental illness, I’m still quite embarrassed about it but she was very kind and encouraged me to believe that medication is just a label, it doesn’t make anybody any worse than anybody else just by the name of your medication and what it is aimed towards treating and that as long as it’s working that’s all that matters. She was very kind and encouraging all round and I’m really thankful to have had such a kind nurse deal with me as I was already nervous about the infection but she also noticed this and reassured me I was in safe hands. There were 3 different treatments to offer and she asked me which I would prefer instead of choosing one herself and also informed me what each option would consist of so I could make a proper decision, I’m still very indecisive so I let her decide for me but told her I was really, really worried about pain as there was already so much pain and she chose the least painful option for me. All the way through my appointment she asked me about myself and made conversation about my tattoo and I’ve never come across a nurse who did that and actually seemed genuinely interested. She made jokes, had banter, was very polite and kind and made sure I was comfortable. If there’s a way I can name this nurse so somebody can thank her personally for me, please let me know as I left feeling a lot better than I arrived

  7. Review titled Disgusting service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 April 2023

6 weeks ago I went to Accrington Victoria to have my bloods done it was a Sunday and a really nice nurse took them, I have been today and I was called a liar and was refused my bloods to be taken from a sister as she said that they never take bloods, what kind of treatment is that? I am absolutely disgusted yes it was a Saturday but isn’t the NHS not 24 hour service? Nobody was in the waiting room or in A&E as I was there as soon as it opened, these bloods are to keep a check on my kidney transplant, the NHS is supposed to be a caring profession, someone needs to tell the sister!

I attended the Minor Injuries dept this afternoon with a badly infected thumb. I was greeted by a very pleasant receptionist who managed to get me an appointment within 10 minutes. I was seen by a nurse, assessed, treated and out of the building within 40 minutes. The staff were very helpful and professional. I would certainly not hesitate to use this service again (hoping, obvs, that I wont need to !).
