  1. Review titled The surgeon that operated on my 4 year olds hand was amazing

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Jess - Posted on 17 September 2024

The surgeon that operated on my 4 year olds hand yesterday was amazing. They made him smile and feel comfortable, even drew a cow on my child’s arm which they loved. (My child wanted a cow it’s what he asked for) I was so relieved when I met the surgeon and they spoke to my child like you’d speak to a child. Unfortunately the other doctors we came in contact with were poor, spoke to a 4 year old like they were an adult and came across like they couldn’t be bothered. Made no real effort to get down to a child’s level or speak nicely. So you can imagine how relieved I was to have a really nice friendly surgeon that my child liked also.

  2. Review titled Would not recommend

Absolutely awful experience. I have been a qualified registered adult Nurse for over 10 years, in fact I'm a band 6 and would be appalled if any of my staff spoke to or treated patients like this particular nurse did.The Staff Nurse, whose first name begins with a C was rude, ignorant, arrogant, condescending and clearly couldn't be bothered to do her job. She spoke to and treated me and my 18 month old son who had a severe asthma attack like dirt. As I mentioned I have been qualified for over 10 years and have some idea of medical issues, however this Nurse spoke to me like I was exaggerating, bare in mind she's only been qualified herself for 2 years. In the end I ended up going elsewhere who did a much better job. I would avoid at all costs, particularly if ch is on. It really is questionable how she got her pin.

  3. Review titled Review of The Eating Disorder Young People Service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 June 2024

I can’t say the above team was helpful. I found the whole thing quite patronising, unprofessional and rude. My child was referred as struggling with anxiety over food, restricted eating habits and crippling anxiety over trying and eating food. However given weight is in normal range, they just write a discharge letter which doesn’t match the appointment. We were appalled by the care we’ve received. Clearly if my child goes on to elimate the only food they eat which is junk food and weight drops is the only time they’d probably see us. Told them about anxieties over eating but basically the impression we got was they just don’t care! And the discharge letter doesn’t reflect what occurred on the day either. I’m so ashamed of it. And I know having spoken to other parents I’m not alone (even our school nurse said they were awful) we’ve subsequently had to go private to get our child the support they need. Absolutely awful and I’d advise to avoid like the plague. So disheartening. The point of an eating disorder team is to help problems escalate but for the staff here, whatever the reason why we felt that we wasted our time as the staff clearly are not interested in helping those early problems before the develop into something significant. Having now gone private and maxing out my credit card to pay for treatment were now in financial difficulties

I am sorry if you feel that you have had a poor experience with the EDYS team, and we welcome any feedback. The EDYS team is a specialist, multi-disciplinary service for young people who have already received input from universal services and then require further input from a range of different professionals. Sometimes, we signpost young people and families to alternative services if the support and intervention would be best delivered by another service. We would like to look more into your experience and would welcome you to contact the Alder Hey Patient Liaison Service, so we can follow your journey through the service and support further service development. Please get in touch with our PALS office for further support: PALS@alderhey.nhs.uk

  6. Review titled Fantastic service with caring staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by E Prescott - Posted on 04 January 2024

We were asked to attend Alder Hey A&E after seeing our GP. We were welcomed with a warm smile and asked the problem. My daughter was quickly seen by 5 nurse then quickly followed by the Dr. All the staff we saw were very caring and kind towards our 9 month old daughter which made us much more relaxed. The procedure she needed was done there and then by the consultant. Thank you to all the staff on our visit from the HCA, student nurse, nurses and consultants!

  7. Review titled Ridiculous waiting time

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 October 2023

I attended a&e with my son who had a 2 inch gash to his head, bleeding, dizzy and feeling sick. We were seen by a grumpy triage nurse quite quickly, but then lwas eft with no pain relief, in a busy crowded waiting room for 5 hours before being seen. I had to keep asking for quaze as the blood was dripping down his face, he was struggling to stay awake and I asked if there was a side room where he could lie and I got told I'd have to wait to be seen. When he did finally get seen the nurse was absolutely fantastic with him, and me, it was very stressful for us both. It was a deep tissue wound, cut down to the skull. The poor child must've been in agony left on a chair for 5 hours covered in blood. I took him to Alder Hey thinking he'd get the best care, but the wait time for a children's a&e was a joke

  8. Review titled Long wait

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 September 2023

Twice over last few weeks i have taken my granddaughter to alder hey and twice we have waited at least 7 hrs each time without being seen as it would of been a further 5 hrs to be seen .so then had to drive to Whiston hospital where we got seem straight away. I love Alder Hey but this hospital has really gone downhill, some staff not very helpful and hardly no doctors come out to call people to be seen. For the top children's hospital it really is a joke and really hope it improves fast.

  9. Review titled Amazing hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Emma Lloyd - Posted on 27 March 2023

We took our 9mo into A&E and were seen almost immediately, the staff were thorough and kind and when I got upset a nurse took me aside to get a tea and calm down. Our baby was admitted and spent 3 days on a ward. They had everything we could need for taking care of a baby (milk, nappies, bath stuff). The ward has toys and a parent kitchen, we got a private room and our room had a sofa bed and full bathroom so we never had to leave her side. There were also no set visiting hours so we weren't asked to leave her at any point. The staff were amazing, popping in to offer us drinks and always tried to keep our baby calm and make her laugh through all the tests and needles. They always seemed happy and positive and to genuinely want to help and they answered every buzzer immediately, never left us waiting. We saw around 3 doctors a day, giving us updates on tests and next steps and if we raised any new concerns with the nurse she would arrange for a Dr to pop in quickly. This is far more than I've ever seen a doctor in any other hospital I've stayed. On day one we also had a visit from a volunteer who told us about the local amenities and answered any questions. This was without question the best hospital I've ever stayed in, the facilities for a parent are beyond expectation and I am so lucky it's so close to us if we ever need it.
