  1. Review titled Medical staff great but receptionist lazy!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 March 2023

I attended Barking Hospital this morning around 8.45am on 11 March 2023 and was most pleased with the Assessing/Treatment staff. However, I found the Receptionist lazy and careless. I provided her with my land line number but then offered my mobile number about 10/15 mins later. She stated she would take the number when she booked me in. The area was empty of patients except one other .She was not engaged in any work so could have easily updated my records instead of procastinating. She did not book me in or take my mobile number which is better to contact me on than my home line. I believe she should be trained to be more competent and considerate in future.

  2. Review titled Frustrating

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My ultrasound appointment was booked for the 13:30. the time wasn’t suitable as I had to pick my kids from school. I spent the whole week trying to change my appointment by calling the number on the letter which was apparently not working. I called Barking hospital and was told that the department doesn’t have a contact so I was given a number for king George hospital to call as ultrasound appointments were booked over there. I called and I was told it the wrong department so they cannot help. Both people I spoke with admitted that many people have the same problem of getting through to someone to change their ultrasound appointment. Since it was impossible to get thru to anyone, I decided to go for my appointment in the morning, perhaps there could be a chance to get it done earlier. The healthcare assistance I met was the worst staff I have met at a hospital. I explained everything to her and she said she has nothing to do with the appointments She then told me I will only be seen earlier if someone misses their appointment. but then she went on arguing and defending everything which really got me and my husband upset. She told me I should have called my GP to change the appointment. I was so shocked to hear that because how does GP manage hospital appointment that they didn’t schedule? She also confirmed that many people complain about the phone number on the appointment letter not working. I waited from 10am till 12:30 and I was the only patient left, this healthcare assistant blatantly ignored me and walked around as if was invisible. So I asked her if I was going to seen as there was no one waiting except me and she told me that I have to wait since my appointment was 13:30pm. How rude! I was so furious and I asked her “seriously”? She went into the room. The radiographer hearing everything that was going on asked her to call me in to be seen. I wonder what training this HCA staff received. She lacks everything a hospital staff should have. They need to do better. That was my fist at Barking hospital and It was such a terrible experience. It seemed all the staff know about the phone number on the appointment letters not working but no one cares to raise concern for it to be fixed. This is ridiculous, you can’t change your appointment if you can’t make it and if your don’t turn up for your appointment, you will be discharged. Absolutely nonsense.

  3. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Everyone I spoke to was kind, professional and seemed to genuinely care. I’ve been there on two separate occasions, for a blood test and for sexual health, and each time they have exhibited professionalism and knowledge in what they are doing.

  4. Review titled Don’t bother

Rated 1 star out of 5

My daughter injured her wrist at nursery. We waited for 4.5 hours to be booked in at urgent treatment unit only to be told that no staff there can read xrays of under 5s. I had to go there urgenyly without having breakfast and with only my key on me. my daughter became hungry waiting all that time too. This is complete torture. Animals are treated much better.
