Review titled Amazing staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Emma - Posted on 09 June 2023
I went into the A&E department absolutely terrified and feeling the most unwell I have ever felt. All of the staff I interacted with were not only the most patient and kind, but were so thorough and attentive to my needs. (And when I say all of the staff, I mean all the staff, the receptionists, nurses, doctors and custodial members). All of these professionals work exceedingly hard and were the most lovely people I have ever interacted with in a hospital environment. After a very intense 12 hours in A&E, they managed to send me on my way with the tools and medication I needed to recover from home.

Review titled Pathetic pharmacy
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Ash - Posted on 08 June 2023
Absolutely pathetic service at the pharmacy at Barnet hospital on 1st floor. Have at least 10/15 people working in pharmacy but still made to wait 1 hour for my prescription. Never ever been asked to wait a minimum of 45 mins before. Its a joke having to pay extra for parking because of the disgustingly slow service offered by the staff here. Needs addressing urgently!

Dear Ash, thank you for your review of the Barnet pharmacy department. We have passed on your comments to pharmacy management who have explained that the prescription process requires checking the appropriateness of each prescription and ensuring that it is safe for the patients. This often requires pharmacy staff to contact the prescriber to go through any queries or concerns. The prescription is then dispensed, labelled and checked before it is handed to the patient. Unfortunately, it was also an incredibly busy day in outpatients with additional clinics running, which forced waiting times up to an hour. Management send their apologies for the waiting time and hope this explanation helps a little. If you wish to discuss this more, we advise speaking to to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Kind regards, the patient experience team.

Review titled Warm, friendly and extremely skilful treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jeffrey - Posted on 24 June 2023
I had a very positive experience at Barnet yesterday, where I was referred to have my facial injury attended to. In particular, the doctor who did most of the work on me took time to be friendly (even though they must have had a very busy schedule), put me at ease and explain what going to be done. They managed an intricate and time-consuming procedure with great patience and sensitivity. I feel extremely fortunate to have benefited from their skills. All the staff were similarly welcoming, and the hospital maintains this atmosphere throughout. It made for me what might have been a stressful experience very reassuring, knowing I was getting the best possible attention.

Review titled Results and communication
Rated 1 star out of 5

I had a 5 day loop fitted approximately 2 months ago and I am still chasing for the results. The hospital did not send the results back to my GP (which should have taken 3-4 weeks). Today I have tried to contact the hospital and I am astonished! Been on hold 3 hours and 30 min, being no 1 in the queue and none picked up. How can you be next in the queue and wait for 3 h and 30 min, in the end I gave up because this waiting time was during my day work and I couldn't afford anymore waiting and I am sure none would have answered. Outrages, for a cardiology department this is unacceptable and infuriating. What should I do to have someone picking up the phone? How this frustration is going to help my heart problems? It looks like none wants to fix my heart problem and I am afraid I need to take legal action. Huge disappointment!

Dear reviewer, we're very sorry to read that you have not received results after two months and that today you were unable to get through to Cardiology and waited for over three hours in the process. We would like to try and get to the bottom of this, but to do so, we will need your details. Could you please email us with these details at rf.bh-patientexperience@nhs.net as soon as you get a chance. Many thanks, the patient experience team.

Review titled Thank you

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to the student nurse and nurse in Galaxy ward at Barnet Hospital on the 30th of May for taking such a good care of our daughter and us as well. Our daughter had a bilateral grommet insertion surgery and both ladies were so attentive to us all and ensured a smooth patient experience! Thank you very much, we really appreciate you!

Review titled Fracture Clinic
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 May 2023
No issues with the clinical staff - all very efficient and professional. My concern is the location of the fracture clinic at Barnet. Those who know the hospital will know the lack of meaningful public transport options and the lack of parking for patients and visitors. But if you’re needing a hip or knee replacement to have to walk down a hill - then walk up an incline - which can take ten minutes: is very hard. With thunderstorms and downpours - pushing an 80 year old is too much. Can’t a better location be found? Could some parking be allocated? The nature of this clinic means a lot of people have access needs due to mobility impairment and it’s the most inaccessible area of the hospital.

Dear reviewer, we're very sorry to read that you had trouble parking near the fracture clinic during your recent visit, which resulted in pushing a wheelchair on a hill. There is a small car park directly outside the entrance of the fracture clinic (which includes disabled parking) but this is limited and we assume parking here was unavailable at the time of your visit. We appreciate that this can make visits to the hospital more difficult and we apologise for this. Management are reviewing the parking needs of patients in on-going work and making changes where possible, so we will pass on your comments to assist this. In the meantime, if you would like to discuss this more, we recommend speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Apologies again for your poor experience. Kind regards, the patient experience team.

Review titled Great Service and care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

My brother and I visited the service today as he's been unwell. We are very happy with the service and how we were treated by the reception team and all the great care and profesionalism of the nurses, junior doctor and consultant. My brother came out relieved and reassured about his condition. We would highly recommend!

Review titled A practice that is overwhelmed
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 May 2023
I visited the accident & emergency after calling 111 and instructed to go. I got to the hospital at 8.30pm and saw a gp at 5.30am the next morning. I was at risk of heart attack and blood pressure of 190/113 but that was not deemed urgent so bumped to the back of the q. Needless to say I was frustrated, wanted to leave and as I was looking around I could see that everyone there was in the same boat. This was the result of a broken Nhs. I have to say that when I saw the Doctor he was thorough, his examination was brilliant and I cannot complain about the service once I received it. I think the a&e should start operating on a ticket basis. Most patients there lived locally. If I came in registered and was given the option to say wait for a call to come back in at 5.30am I would have been less stressed, I could have rested etc...Something must be dome to help this system.

Dear reviewer, we're very sorry to read that you had such a long wait in our emergency department recently, having been advised to attend the department by 111. We do continue to see very high numbers of patients, which are seen in order of clinical priority, but we also appreciate the impact this has on patients and their loved-ones and this is not the experience we would wish for our patients. We have forwarded your comments to management but if you would like to discuss your experience further, we recommend speaking to our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). PALS can be contacted by email at bcfpals@nhs.net or telephone on 0208 216 4924. Apologies again for your poor experience. Kind regards, the patient experience team.

Review titled Terrible Hospital
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 May 2023
It is a terrible department. There were no doctors. My daughter was suffering from pain in her ears for more than four hours but we were still asked to wait for the doctor to visit her. After waiting for more than four hours I noticed that there were no doctors. There were only nurses in the department and when I was going out of the department after four hours, they even didn’t try to prevent us from leaving. That means that my daughter’s illness was not important for them at all. I also have to mention that the nurses were very lazy and rude and not doing anything special at all. All the time they were sitting by the computers and doing nothing. I never recommend this hospital.

Review titled Caring staff and smooth process

by Sophie Solomon - Posted on 14 April 2023
A huge thank you to all the staff on the early morning shift on 14th April 2023. I had acute conjunctivitis and the doctor who examined me was so patient, calm and made me feel very reassured I was going to be okay and made me feel at ease. Although I can’t name the doctor here, I really appreciate the support! The whole experience in an and e was smooth and the staff managed our expectations of wait times well. Thank you again
