Went into A&E on advice of GP. Seen very quickly. Staff caring and efficient. Prompt action taken. Admitted later where care continued to be very good. The people here care about patients and are very professional.

Review titled A Big Thank You
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jenny A Moorby - Posted on 08 April 2023
I was admitted to A & E on 4th April with extreme head pain, was seen within 2 hours, thoroughly checked including brain scan and asked to attend Same Day Emergency Services on 6th April. There I found a haven of quiet efficiency, was again seen within 2 hours and treated at all times with courtesy. Free tea, coffee and biscuits were welcome too. After ruling out some serious possibilities, I was allowed to go home with strong painkillers and a recommendation for physiotherapy, which I have already arranged. I am very grateful to Barnsley Hospital for the smiling staff and their efficient way of dealing with poorly people!

Review titled Exemplary Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Sadly, my stepfather passed away on Ward 21 recently. As a family, we felt that we, as well as he, received exemplary support and care from the staff of Ward 21, both nursing staff and support staff.

Review titled Third Rate Clinical Care
Rated 1 star out of 5

After being admitted to hospital by ambulance for a badly infected Gaul bladder I was put on the surgical ward. The container holding saline was allowed to run dry by staff who appeared to be more interested in hurling around inappropriate and crass 'banter'. I was so dehydrated and felt so ill I discharged myself to a point of safety. This ward is a disgrace to the NHS.

Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Rachel Bosley - Posted on 20 April 2023
I visited Accident and Emergency department Wednesday morning I had a severe pain and previous history. My treatment was quick acting to give me total trust and pain relief within 20 minutes I was seen within 5 minutes . The waiting room was full I felt totally at ease and the lead nurse practitioner I believe was fantastic what a wonderful experienced team you have. I saw the consultant who reassured me and my X-rays were ordered immediately The pain relief I required administered immediately too. I was on a ward within the hour cared for and felt total admiration from such a brilliant effort in Accident and Emergency Thankyou

Review titled Excellent service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Had an " emergency appointment " at dermatology after being referred by my GP, the appointment was on time, un-rushed and dealt with very professionally, i cheekily asked for an opinion on an unrelated matter, to my complete surprise this was dealt with immediately without fuss by the excellent staff, saved me a trip to the GP for treatment. Proud of the service offered by Barnsley NHS staff 10/10 ..

Review titled Good experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have had two cataract operations at Barnsley, the second one at an extra Saturday clinic. On both occasions the nursing staff were friendly and reassuring, and the surgeon was careful, very thorough and very efficient. Before the first operation I was very nervous, but because of a good experience on that day I went into the second operation without any fears at all. Excellent teamwork from everyone there.

Review titled Completely out of touch with reality
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Nick - Posted on 24 March 2023
How out of touch with reality can the Barnsley NHS be. A fret a visit to my local GP I am told to go to reception and book a blood test with the practice nurse.I am told “Can’t do that you will have to ring the blood department at the glassworks”. I kid not 5 hrs later and 155 calls later with no response I drive to the glassworks and am told “You can’t book an appointment here and I don’t know why you’ve been told to ring that number as you won’t get an answer because it’s only got one person answering” next day I go to Barnsley Hospital blood department where one member of staff is constantly making telephone appointments and a nurse is doubling up as a receptionist and then taking blood. Lovely staff couldn’t have been more helpful and gave me an appointment. But the system is broken and I am ashamed to say need privatisation. Disgraceful organisation by those at the top.

by David Ralph Smith - Posted on 31 May 2023
Was admitted on 13th March and after numerous exa inations and tests the doctors came up with an ailment l had never heard of before. Guillain Barre Syndrome. It's very rare and it was very scary. I must say a big big thank you to the doctors and all the hospital staff for looking after me oh so well. I am now back on my feet and getting stronger by the day. l can't thank everyone enough. Eternally grateful and l will never forget the wonderful staff.

Review titled Ridiculously long wait time
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 17 March 2023
Recently took my brother to A&E on the instruction of 111 when he started experiencing concussion symptoms following a car crash. We were triaged within half an hour however then spent the next 6 hours waiting to be seen by someone. Despite being told in traige he needed to be monitored throughout to check his neurological symptoms he was checked by a nurse once after 3 hours of being there. Pain medication was requested twice and both times ignored by staff. I understand services are understaffed and underfunded but spending nearly 7 hours in A&E on instruction from 111 to have received less attention than could have been given at home is appalling.
