Review titled Amazing I can’t thank the staff enough
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Robyn Boother - Posted on 01 November 2024
I really want the girls to know how much I appreciated how amazing they were for the birth of my little girl. They were so caring in the antenatal and in the labour ward and just went totally above and beyond. They listened to me with everything and just made my birth such a positive experience. Thankyou all ever so much.

Review titled Grateful for a caring and smiley team!
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Caring team with smiles - Posted on 29 September 2024
I was recently admitted to the Women's gyane ward following some health complications and I was sincerely impressed with the attentive, caring and empathetic team. There is no doubt that the team are very busy but they try their best to accommodate requests to be helpful. The team of nurses, health assistants, house keeper, cleaners and ward team were smiley, friendly, reassuring and helpful. They are a credit to the NHS and exhibit wonderful values of care, compassion and considerate.

Review titled Felt very cared for by sensitive and professional staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lucy G - Posted on 23 September 2024
I came 4 surgery to mend a fractured elbow, there for barely 24 hours; all nursing & support staff in D ward were kind, gentle and patient with me whilst maintaining high professional standards. I felt I was a valued customer; they explained things well and were reassuring when I had queries. Prior to admission I had professional & reassuring support by phone from the lady on Ortho Reception and later, also by phone, the Trauma Co-ordinator who both recognised my anxiety and took great trouble by keeping in touch by phone prior to admission. On the Ward, Doctor N & Nurse S were 2 names I particularly noted for their calmness & patience but all ward staff - medical and admin had similarly high standards of patient care - I just can't memorise all their names!

Review titled A wonderful nurse and doctor in A&E Basingstoke
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Mr & Mrs R C Kapoor - Posted on 13 September 2024
Unfortunately my elderly wife had a fall and cut her head badly. I drove to a&e at 4.30 am, the wound was deep and bleeding profusely, it was bandaged up whilst we waited to be seen. When we were seen, one nurse in particular, initials N.a, was so kind and helpful, she cleaned my wifes wound and very carefully washed all the blood from her long hair. She was so caring and gentle, we felt like she was an angel. The last Doctor that saw us Dr R, was also a great help and very caring when she did my wifes stitches. A huge thank you, to you both, your kindness and assistance with a smile, was much appreciated in a very challenging time for us. God bless.

Review titled Car Park and Steps
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 September 2024
Car park lets people in when no spaces. People driving round and round Also three flights of concrete steps to get to entrance level is a terrifying experience for elderly not very mobile people like me. And when puddly like it was today it is positively dangerous. When driving out I saw a lady slip and fall on the zebra crossing between two of the flights. She struggled to get up. Really dangerous and it shouldn’t be like this.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of our hospital. I am sorry to hear of the challenges that you faced in our parking area, I can appreciate how frustrating this must have been for you. Access to our hospital is also available via a pathway with no steps, however, I have shared your feedback with leads of our parking and facilities team so that we can review how clear our signs to the hospital are. It is very important to us that every patient can reach our buildings safely. I hope this information is of use, but please do contact our PALS and Complaints Team so that we can follow up with you directly. Dad came in today to have his pace maker checked, greeted and treated by a wonderful team, it’s been a hard year, the kindness and compassion displayed by the team made such a huge difference. Thank you so much for making such a difference to dads day and ours.

Review titled Great care, but poor hygiene
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Stanleyann - Posted on 18 July 2024
Used Basingstoke A&E, for first time. Overall was happy with the care given, everyone who provided care was friendly, polite and very professional. However, assessments took place with no privacy - they was completed in a very busy waiting room, where all over patients was able hear while your there. Hand hygiene - while every doctor washed their hands before and after every patient contact, the Nurse, and HCA’s lacked this, I witness, them both going from patient to patient without any hand washing in between, gloves been put on, and multiple hot points touched before, then having contact with patients. Overall happy with the care given, but room for improvement when it comes to hygiene and infection control. Also need to be aware of people’s rights to privacy and dignity.

Dear Stanleyann Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of our services. It was lovely to hear of the friendliness of the staff who provided care and treatment to you, this does reflect the standard of care we strive to provide to all our patients. I am sorry to hear of both the lack of privacy you received when being treated, as well as lack the of hand hygiene from some of our staff. Neither is what we would want for any patients attending our hospital. I would like to assure you that your feedback has been shared with the clinical leads of emergency department so that they can address the issues with the team, but please do contact our PALS and Complaints Team so that we can follow up with you personally. Review titled No care
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Diana Mary Bell - Posted on 12 July 2024
My mum was taken by Ambulance to Basingstoke A&E @ 20.10hrs on 10/7/2024, it was left to the paramedics to find my mum a trolley to which they transferred her nobody came to see her until 20.55hrs when she had b/p ecg and Bloods taken, no sign of a Dr at that point, around 22.00hrs a young man approached my mum [and told her his name] asked me if I was her daughter I responded with yes she was then taken to another ward not far from. e.d [r.a.t] again she was ignored, just before midnight we were asked to go home and where we could ring in the morning, At 07.20 our landline rang and it was a female Dr asking how long we would be ? for what I asked, your mum was discharged at 02.00hrs news to me I said, so I woke my husband and asked him to collect her so for just over 12hrs mum had been there was not offered tea or coffee nor anything to eat and to my mind that is the basic kind of care if any of my Nurses or aids who worked on my ward had treated any patient like that would have been spoken to I hope you don't treat all your patients like that! Oh and by the way my mum is 92, and we still do not know what the matter is as none of us has been told

Dear Diana I am so sorry to hear of your Mum’s recent experience. This is not what we would want for any patients attending our emergency department, or for family members. We have systems in place to ensure that patients do get food and drink if they are in the emergency department for a long time, and I am very sorry that this did not happen for your mum. I’m also sorry for the confusion around when she was ready to go home, and the fact that you still do not know what was wrong with her. None of this is inline with how we would want our patients and their families to be cared for. We will see if we can identify the shift concerned from the information you have provided, so we can address these issues with those who were on shift at the time – in the meantime we will remind all our teams of the importance of offering food and drink and of communicating well with patients and family members. Please do get in contact with our PALS and Complaints Team if you would like us to follow up with you personally. PALS can be contacted at PALSandcomplaints@hhft.nhs.uk or 01256 486766. My father recently had a heart attack and was taken amazing care of by all the doctors, nurses and consultants in the CCU team. my family were also treated with utter kindness in this stressful time. I cannot thank this service enough for the great care and communication my dad received. Every nurse we saw was friendly, calming and communicative. The consultants kept us calm and talked through everything in detail. I really cannot fault this team at all. thank you thank you thank you

Review titled Great nurses, carers and doctors but terrible receptionists.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Afsana - Posted on 04 July 2024
Receptionist are rude, nurse and carers cared really well when I was there but the handover period took a while and I was forgotten while in pain. Receptionist need to understand British people are all kind of skin colour and not only white.

Dear Afsana Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. Ensuring that all our patients are treated respectfully is a core part of the care we provide, and I am very sorry that this was not your experience. To be treated any differently because of your skin colour is completely against everything we stand for, and it absolutely should not have happened. I am glad you felt cared for, although I am very sorry that you felt forgotten while in pain. Pain management is a key part of patient care, and we clearly didn’t get this right for you either. Please do get in contact with our PALS and Complaints Team so that we follow up with you personally and can address the situation with those responsible. PALS can be contacted at PALSandcomplaints@hhft.nhs.uk or 01256 486766. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards Alex Whitfield Chief Executive
