  1. Review titled Great care, but poor hygiene

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Stanleyann - Posted on 18 July 2024

Used Basingstoke A&E, for first time. Overall was happy with the care given, everyone who provided care was friendly, polite and very professional. However, assessments took place with no privacy - they was completed in a very busy waiting room, where all over patients was able hear while your there. Hand hygiene - while every doctor washed their hands before and after every patient contact, the Nurse, and HCA’s lacked this, I witness, them both going from patient to patient without any hand washing in between, gloves been put on, and multiple hot points touched before, then having contact with patients. Overall happy with the care given, but room for improvement when it comes to hygiene and infection control. Also need to be aware of people’s rights to privacy and dignity.

  2. Review titled No care

Rated 1 star out of 5

My mum was taken by Ambulance to Basingstoke A&E @ 20.10hrs on 10/7/2024, it was left to the paramedics to find my mum a trolley to which they transferred her nobody came to see her until 20.55hrs when she had b/p ecg and Bloods taken, no sign of a Dr at that point, around 22.00hrs a young man approached my mum [and told her his name] asked me if I was her daughter I responded with yes she was then taken to another ward not far from. e.d [r.a.t] again she was ignored, just before midnight we were asked to go home and where we could ring in the morning, At 07.20 our landline rang and it was a female Dr asking how long we would be ? for what I asked, your mum was discharged at 02.00hrs news to me I said, so I woke my husband and asked him to collect her so for just over 12hrs mum had been there was not offered tea or coffee nor anything to eat and to my mind that is the basic kind of care if any of my Nurses or aids who worked on my ward had treated any patient like that would have been spoken to I hope you don't treat all your patients like that! Oh and by the way my mum is 92, and we still do not know what the matter is as none of us has been told

Dear Diana I am so sorry to hear of your Mum’s recent experience. This is not what we would want for any patients attending our emergency department, or for family members. We have systems in place to ensure that patients do get food and drink if they are in the emergency department for a long time, and I am very sorry that this did not happen for your mum. I’m also sorry for the confusion around when she was ready to go home, and the fact that you still do not know what was wrong with her. None of this is inline with how we would want our patients and their families to be cared for. We will see if we can identify the shift concerned from the information you have provided, so we can address these issues with those who were on shift at the time – in the meantime we will remind all our teams of the importance of offering food and drink and of communicating well with patients and family members. Please do get in contact with our PALS and Complaints Team if you would like us to follow up with you personally. PALS can be contacted at PALSandcomplaints@hhft.nhs.uk or 01256 486766. Kind regards Alex Whitfield Chief Executive

My father recently had a heart attack and was taken amazing care of by all the doctors, nurses and consultants in the CCU team. my family were also treated with utter kindness in this stressful time. I cannot thank this service enough for the great care and communication my dad received. Every nurse we saw was friendly, calming and communicative. The consultants kept us calm and talked through everything in detail. I really cannot fault this team at all. thank you thank you thank you

  4. Review titled Great nurses, carers and doctors but terrible receptionists.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Afsana - Posted on 04 July 2024

Receptionist are rude, nurse and carers cared really well when I was there but the handover period took a while and I was forgotten while in pain. Receptionist need to understand British people are all kind of skin colour and not only white.

Dear Afsana Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. Ensuring that all our patients are treated respectfully is a core part of the care we provide, and I am very sorry that this was not your experience. To be treated any differently because of your skin colour is completely against everything we stand for, and it absolutely should not have happened. I am glad you felt cared for, although I am very sorry that you felt forgotten while in pain. Pain management is a key part of patient care, and we clearly didn’t get this right for you either. Please do get in contact with our PALS and Complaints Team so that we follow up with you personally and can address the situation with those responsible. PALS can be contacted at PALSandcomplaints@hhft.nhs.uk or 01256 486766. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards Alex Whitfield Chief Executive

  5. Review titled Basingstoke Ambulance Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 May 2024

I was recently feeling unwell and wasn't sure if the symptoms I was experiencing were serious or not. I decided to call 111 for advice. 111 duly despatched an ambulance. I live in a rural area and expected to wait some time for an ambulance to arrive. I was still on the phone with 111 when the first responder arrived. While he was taking observations another ambulance arrived. The two ladies who attended to me were fantastic and reassuring. After further tests and observations they confirmed all was well. The service gets a lot of bad press but my personal experience, and that of another family member, has been truly marvellous. These professionals do an amazing job with absolute commitment and empathy.

  7. Review titled Very helpful doctor

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Bruin White - Posted on 15 May 2024

Dr H (I'm not allowed to include names in this review, which is absurd as the doctor in question deserves recognition) was very helpful and efficient, seeing me on time - or in fact early - on both of my visits to him in the fracture clinic. He marked my MRI as urgent and pushed to have me seen to as quickly as possible to determine the severity of my injury. He answered all questions, gave useful advice, and was both helpful and professional throughout. He even went the extra mile to bring me to his computer and find a knee joint model to show me in better detail exactly what the damage was, which he needn't have and I felt was very informative.

  8. Review titled Very efficient

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Braden - Posted on 16 April 2024

The nurse who I spoke to was simply excellent, i don’t think you can give credit to names on the reviews but I’ll try: Lima Indigo Victa was great. I was worried about visit with my red eye but I felt at ease and thought the whole appointment was very efficient with customer emotions at first priority.

  9. Review titled Completely not accessible

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by Jacob p - Posted on 19 June 2024

I have had this experience with all the departments I have come into contact with at Basingstoke hospital. I am currently under the care of the Orthopedics department and I have autism. I enquired about a rough estimation for my surgery due to booking a holiday and was asked to call the secretary. I have severe anxiety when using the phone so I can't call. There needs to be more accessible options for people like me who find phone calls incredibly challenging.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tracy Greenall - Posted on 12 March 2024

All a&e /aau staff treated my 82 Year old father extremely well. Very attentive and caring. Also all staff in f1 were very caring and made you feel welcome. Saw staff going over and above their duties for all patients. My father's health became challenging at times and all staff did everything they could to help him feel comfortable. Well done to everyone.
