Review titled " Bad Practice "
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 March 2023
On 18th March 2023 I took my son to the A&E at Birmingham Children Hospital, he was complaining of stomach pains and had blood coming from his stools, was observed by the nurse in the assessment room and was told to wait outside for the doctor. After patiently waiting for 4 hours as told the waiting time shot up by 2 hours to 6 hours. People who came same time as us were being seen but not us. I again understand that there is clinical order but this simply cannot be allowed to continue. More needs to be done to see sick kids earlier. Some staff at the Birmingham children hospital need to go on a training course to improve their customer service skills also a handful can't even string a proper sentence was a huge gap in communicating, standards have certainly dropped at the hospital which was once highly regarded.

Review titled Uncaring and rude
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 January 2023
First let me say not all were rude. My daughter was taken care of by some very good doctors, nurses and support people. I am hearing impaired. I informed everyone of this several times during our stay. I had one female doctor dismiss me because of her mask I couldn't read her lips. There for I had no idea what she was saying. Yeah she dismissed me with her hand and walked out of the room. My daughter a five year old. Was scared she would cry and scream when I wasn't in her sight. Understandably so. I couldn't get food from the cafeteria, sent up to the room( I said im not asking for free if have cash, debt card, or credit card) I can pay. Explained my delema. No help, No food!! Was told repeatedly you have to go to the first floor to pick up food for yourself. My son in law had to drive 1.5 hours one way to bring me food. No one seemed to have any answer or be willing to help me or even care for that fact. The cafeteria workers I spoke with in the phone were very rude and uncaring. I ask to speak with a social worker. I never saw one. Im also a type two diabetic. Did anyone care? Sadly No! But let me say the ladies that cleaned my daughters room..top notch. Very friendly and caring. I give them 5 stars. I think its a sad day we live in when parents or caregivers are treated as nothing. I would not recommend Birmingham's Childrens Hospital. For the many reasons listed above.

Review titled Unacceptable A&E Wait Time
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 December 2022
Arrived at 09:45am on a Sunday morning with my 18month old who had a high temp & head to toe rash. Was advised the wait may be up to 14 hours (and some had been waiting that long!) and that only one parent could stay as they were so busy, which was very distressing for my child. After 3 hours one of the consultants came out to the waiting room shouting that parents needed to stop asking reception and the initial assessment nursing staff how much longer they would be waiting. I think this needs to be addressed and the staff need to be mindful that these are very worried parents with seriously unwell children who are being made to wait fourteen hours, and maybe adjust attitudes / patient care a little. In total we waited 6 hours to be told my child had a viral rash, only to take her to the gp the following day to find out she actually had Scarlet Fever / Strep a. Absolutely appalling from start to finish.
