  1. Review titled Great staff just need to improve communication

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 June 2024

My daughter and I stayed here overnight. The staff were friendly and patient and she had a lovely private room to stay in which we appreciated. The lady, who I believe has the job title of Play Worker or similar, was fantastic with my daughter and a real asset to the hospital. I just wanted to mention though that the communication in general could be better, we were left waiting a lot which I have no problem with but regularly we didn’t know why we were waiting or what we were waiting for. From arrival in A & E by ambulance to being in the room, this seemed to be the case. I had to find someone several times to ask, it would just be helpful to be told this is what is happening and this is what you’re waiting for.

  2. Review titled Amazing Experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My son came in twice yesterday with difficulty breathing, being discharged the first time and having to come back was stressful but the nurses recognising us and helping us speed the process up was so lovely! helping me feel comfortable with a toddler sleeping on me and going above and beyond to make sure we were all okay. keeping me informed (even at 2am when i’m sure they really weren’t at all bothered). when he got moved onto observation the doctors and nurses were so friendly and welcoming! made the whole situation so much less stressful.

  4. Review titled Amazing Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jess Rooke - Posted on 28 January 2024

I attended the children’s a&e department as advised by 111 on 28/01/24 and I have never seen so many people in a waiting area, the staff upon my arrival came out to announce 9 hour waits and apologised for this - I checked in and waited. The staff that treated my 4 month son were absolutely fantastic, I was seen within 2 hours and antibiotics given and an abscess drained. The staff were absolutely outstanding considering the immense pressure they were all under, I do not think they get enough credit for what they do! The mass amount of patients they had to see and yet they still were all calm polite and brilliant even with the understandable yet unnecessary verbal frustration from many people waiting. A massive thank you to our NHS for having such a great a&e department at the children’s hospital.

  5. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We took our 3 year old here after two trips to out of hours doctors and not much luck, the doctor we had was brilliant with us although they were very busy they made sure we were kept informed on what they were doing and what they were waiting for and expected wait times, we weren’t just left hanging like some hospitals/doctors. They were very professional and very friendly.

  6. Review titled Wonderful team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My 5 month old was admitted last night as she was so unwell. The team were all amazing, so helpful and kind. They even bought me some food and a cup of tea. The care that was given was fantastic. They couldn’t have done a better job, and you can see how hard they work under huge pressures.

  7. Review titled Best I’ve experienced

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Both my girls were poorly and one particularly so. We arrived after calling 111 and were seen quite promptly. The whole team were just phenomenal. They all came to my kids’ level, engaged with them, took the time to communicate with us and gave us brilliant medical expertise. We are so fortunate to have the NHS. A huge thank you to the team at Bristol Children’s Hospital, you are amazing.

  8. Review titled Care for my son

    by septemberpe84 - Posted on 20 March 2023

Shortly after my son was born it was noticed that his testicles were firmer than expected. After a few different professional opinions and an ultrasound, it was found that he had testicular torsion and one of his testicles had died. As there was hope of saving the second testicle he was blue lighted down to Bristol children's hospital where he went straight into surgery. Unfortunately we weren't able to travel with him. It was incredibly scary leaving out brand new baby with strangers and knowing that he was in surgery despite only being a few hours old. The surgery went as expected and they weren't able to save the second testicle. He then spent 2 nights in intensive care where he had a feeding tube and was oxygen as a result of the surgery. By Tuesday we were transferred back to Musgrove which meant we were closer to home. He still needed oxygen and stayed in hospital for a further 4 days before returning home fit and healthy.

  9. Review titled Disgusting service in children’s a&e

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 February 2023

Spoken to in an extremely derogatory manner when I raised concerns about how ill my son seemed and was just told that toddlers get viruses all the time even though no clear indication he had a virus. Waited more than three hours and asked politely if there was any indication of how much longer we would need to wait and got ignored.

  10. Review titled Fantastic hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

After having numerous terrible experiences at our local hospital, I have lost trust in them. However, we are so glad to have two brilliant hospitals 40 minutes away. The staff at Southmead and Bristol children's hospital have been amazing with myself and my children. They are professional, caring and listen to their patients. They saved my life and my twins on separate occasions and for that I will be forever thankful.
