  1. Review titled Deeply Disappointed – Unacceptable Delays and Poor Follow-Up

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Maria Vela - Posted on 16 April 2025

I had a very upsetting experience after breaking my wrist. I waited over two hours in A&E before being seen, which, although frustrating, is sometimes understandable in emergencies. However, what followed was far worse. I was given a temporary cast and told I might need surgery. I was assured that a doctor would call me in the following days. That call never came. In the meantime, my cast has become increasingly tight, and now my thumb is completely numb — a sign that something could be seriously wrong. I now have to return to A&E because I’m genuinely concerned this might be causing further damage. My son, who speaks English better than I do, called the Trauma and Orthopaedics Centre yesterday to remind them that I still hadn’t heard anything. No action was taken. We tried calling again today around 5pm, and no one picked up. It’s extremely worrying that someone with a confirmed wrist fracture has been left with no follow-up for over a week. This doesn’t feel like an oversight — it feels like a breakdown in care. At the very least, I expected a call within a couple of days to check on my condition, especially considering I might need surgery. The lack of communication and support has caused a lot of unnecessary stress. This experience has made me lose confidence in the service. I sincerely hope this is addressed, because no patient should be left in this position.

  2. Review titled No Cardiac MRI results

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 April 2025

I had a cardiac MRI on 27/1. It is now 2/4. I have no result. I have chased this twice with the BRI consultant who ordered the scan and have emailed Pals. Only had 2 automated emails from Pals saying they are very busy and will be in touch. 27/1 to 2/4 (and ongoing) is a totally unacceptable time to wait for the result of a scan. (4 months had already been spent waiting for the scan and 7 months before that for the consultant appointment). I have a rare condition (which can have serious heart implications) - only affecting females. Nevertheless, I should not have to put up with this. My follow-up appointment with the consultant is already a month overdue, probably delayed because there is no scan result, although I have been given no explanation. It is the lack of communication which is particularly bad: I simply have no idea why the scan result has not been forthcoming, or when I can expect it. My concerns are valid and expecting a scan result (or at least an explanation) after this length of time is entirely reasonable. Therefore I hope there will be no attempt to criticise me or put me in the wrong for leaving this valid review.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Came to the ED suffering with mobility issues, ended up falling and the doctor seeing to my case told me to get back up and there was nothing wrong with me. Additionally had issues with this doctor in the past and was showing unfair treatment towards me

  5. Review titled 6 hour wait in ED

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Zack - Posted on 20 March 2025

Waited 6 hours in ED to be treated horribly by the doctor on duty. Nurse was kind of caring but doctor didn't have the time of day to listen to my issues and made me feel like a burden

Accompanied my brother to SDEC 307 today. Everyone we met including tge receptionist, triage nurse, doctor, radiographer and consultant were lovely. My brother had blood tests, ecg and CT scan and all the results. Was offered overnight observation and referred to out patients for further tests. And we got a free sandwich and coffee. Cannot praise the NHS highly enough. Thank you for the outstanding care. You are heroes.

  8. Review titled Lack of Communication

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Jean smith - Posted on 25 January 2025

Was treated quickly and efficiently on entering the Same Day Emergency Care with diagnosed bradycardia but between blood tests and all the other necessary tests and examinations, it seemed to be hours with no explanation of what was going to happen next. When I asked what I thought was a heart doctor a question about Atrial Fibrillation he said he knew little about it although previously, when showing me the Ecg chart had said I might need a pace maker! It was explained that he was not a fully qualified doctor but an Associate. Also there was no communication as to needing a drink or food and I had had nothing since breakfast at 8 am until I asked and received a sandwich early evening. When you are elderly and on your own it is worrying and the lack of, or mis-information creates great anxiety. Please ask staff to treat patients with more respect and include them in discussions, rather than leaving them feeling ignored and to guess what might be going to happen.

  9. Review titled Amazing care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Emily Wallis - Posted on 06 December 2024

The care that my partner received today was the best we've ever had. She left feeling so much more confident and supported. The care that the staff gave her was so lovely to see - through listening to her problems, and making accommodations for her autism and fibromyalgia. Cannot recommend the respiratory department enough, thank you so much for everything you did!

  10. Review titled Thank you for A609 team on 1 of October 2024

Please accept this expression of my sincerest thanks for all you did to help me. I was in considerable discomfort and my condition was further exacerbated by the experience of being in a hospital setting, which I have had no previous positive experiences of. I am aware that I did not always act as a model patient. However, I have a number of other issues to contend with in addition to the pain. Despite the inability to diagnose my problem, you provided invaluable assistance. I regret that I was not as cooperative as I should have been. Please accept my apologies for that. I would like to express my gratitude for your efforts. Please accept this expression of my sincerest thanks.
