Review titled Efficient professional & caring staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Leah H. - Posted on 16 May 2024
A huge thank you from me for my experience today at the Breast care Clinic at Castle Hill. Everything about it - the communication, the 6 different clinical staff, the administrative staff, the organisation of the service was first class. I’ve had plenty of experiences within the NHS that I wouldn’t describe this way but today was a great example of how it should work. So grateful to the employees who struck the balance between kind and patient but efficient and focussed so well. Not easy! Witnessing an experienced radiographer coaching and supporting a colleague learning on the job was a real privilege. I also bore witness to clinical staff dealing generously with stressed, agitated patients; handling non-English speaking patients kindly and effectively. Really impressive. The efficiency of the system and the well oiled machine (I.e. the well trained, professional staff) that implement it was great. Thanks again. Super grateful to be a beneficiary of NHS at its best today.

Review titled Outstanding service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by John Billinghurst - Posted on 06 May 2024
I cannot praise highly enough the staff at the Urology Department. No delay in being seen and made comfortable, the nursing staff could not do enough, their kindness and patience in easing my worries cannot be praised enough. The nurse who dealt with me despite obvious pressures on her time was outstanding, a credit to the NHS. The time and trouble she took in explaining my aftercare was most reassuring. I wish it were allowed for me to mention her name as she deserves to have her service recognised. Not the first experience sadly I have had at Castle Hill but each time I have been so impressed at the quality of the service.

Review titled Unsupported
Rated 1 star out of 5

I have found the aftercare from breast cancer lacking and insensitive. I have been left with radiotherapy damage, after breast conserving surgery and radiotherapy. More information needs to be given to patients with small breast cancers on the long term effects of radiotherapy. Not just to be handed a leaflet. Discussions between oncologist and consultant s need to be better explained so patients can make a better informed choice to treatments. I found the whole experience lacking in this area. I felt I had no choices with my treatments. People need to be treated in an individual manner not made to feel like they are on a conveyer belt. They need to feel supported, before during and after treatment. Unfortunately I have felt none of this. I have had a small cancer yes, and it’s treated, yes, but I still have the same feelings worries and concerns of someone with a different diagnosis. I feel dismissed, not listened to and silenced, this is not a nice way to feel. Where is the support?

Just a thankyou to the crew at the urology day ward who did my cystoscopy on a Sunday. I was in and out in a flash and back home before I knew it even though it looked busy. Thanks.

The lady who fitted my catheter yesterday was extremely nice . I nearly fainted twice . Once during the catheter ,and once while I was waiting to go in to have the CT scan done. She was very lovely made conversation. A very beautiful woman. Made sure I was okay and rushed to my aid when I needed it. I can't express how caring she was. Please pass this message onto her and say how thankful I was 😊

Review titled Communications
Rated 3 stars out of 5

Trying to contact Castle Hill Hospital by telephone has become almost impossible. Calling individual department results in a long wait, followed by a recorded voice inviting you to leave a message, which is never responded to. Calling Hospital reception, is another lengthy call, eventually a person asks which department you want, and with minimum discussion, your call is transferred, but again, rarely if ever answered. To date, over consecutive days I have left messages with Gastrointestinal department, leaving my Wife's contact details, no response. Today, another call to Gastrointestinal department, same result, so rang Hospital main reception, who eventually responded, then passed me to Gastrointestinal department, where, this time the phone rang once and went straight to music on hold, and was still not answered 40 minutes later, when we just gave up. We have a serious issue to discuss regarding an appointment, but, short of personally visiting the hospital, what else can we do? Seems there is little point providing Telephone contact details for Castle Hill Hospital, if no one answers the Phone.
