Review titled Thankyou
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Neil Garner - Posted on 20 October 2024
After weeks of being mis diagnosed I came into the hospital after being unable to attend a ibs clinic with the ibd team leader I was at my wits end. On Friday 18th a team member told me what tests etc were tobe carried out and promised to return on Saturday 19th. I was astonished to see him walk in at a little after 8.00 am. He reassured me that things were going in the right direction and the staff would be carrying out further tests and this has been done. I was transferred to Cheltenham and he then arrived at lunchtime to assess the results and to inform me of next steps. I cannot praise this team highly enough. Please let everyone know

Review titled Wonderful Accident & Emergency treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Richard Brown - Posted on 15 October 2024
Had to attend Accident & Emergency department yesterday evening, bleeding profusely from a head wound. I was treated without delay by kindly, caring, efficient, professional staff. Resolving the problem was not straightforward, but was achieved with patient and skilful attention to detail. Completion of the treatment was delayed by the (lack of) availability of an overwhelmed-by-demand CATScanner, but the delay was made easier by pleasant, kindly staff who offered food and drink whilst keeping a careful, unobtrusive eye on things. The overall performance was highly impressive and I can only express my gratitude to your staff who had already been on duty for many hours but who still managed to put on a remarkable performance. (For some reason the web review page doesn't offer an 'Accident & Emergency' response to the 'which Department' question, so I had to put in a 'don't know' answer. It was definitely Accident & Emergency!)

From the receptionists welcoming demeanour not only towards myself but others in the waiting room to the doctor’s empathetic consults this department has outshined. The doctor was very down to earth and actually listened carefully to my concerns which is becoming more and more rare within the Nhs! Facilities were spotless and hygienic and wait times were almost non existing! Very happy with the service from this department and they deserve all the praise in the world!

I attended for a day surgery on 17/10/24. The whole process was seamless and all staff members who I had interaction with were friendly informative and made me feel at ease. I am unable to mention their names but the young nurse with blonde hair , the anesthetic team a young guy with blonde hair and also a lovely lady who put her arm around me, and then a fantastic surgeon im. The nurse who discharged was great she had not worked at CGH before! The whole team and process from start to finish was 5* You are all doing a fantastic job!! 👏

Review titled Above and beyond
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Janet - Posted on 09 August 2024
All colleagues of the Oncology and Avening ward that I have come into contact with have been supportive and kind and carried out their duties with efficiency and care. Although my experience yesterday was that some of the workers on Avening ward went above and beyond the care you would usually expect. When it was discovered that I wasn't going home by hospital transport I was escorted to the front entrance of the hospital by a nurse. This same nurse a few minutes afterwards came after me with something I had left on the ward. She discovered I was in a bit of distress and waited until a taxi arrived although this took her over the end of her shift. I believe that was going above and beyond. Thank you to all for your help and support.

From calling 111 for my child with a high fever, to an appointment in walk in at Cheltenham A&E the care was fantastic. The initial phone call to being discharged within 4 Hrs was a superb service. Thank you to the whole team.

Review titled Could do better
by Anonymous - Posted on 26 March 2024
It started with the appointment letter having no map or information leaflet about the procedure. Eventually got to the hospital to find the parking area cramped with uneven appalling road surface. No clear signs on the outside of the building. Found an extremely helpful lady in the shop who was heading in the direction needed to go. Took nearly 10 minutes in an absolute maze of a building. Greeted by reception team who gave a form to complete. Bearing in mind the waiting area is full of patients who by this stage are "nil by mouth" for most of the procedures taking place there a member of staff walked through the waiting room calling to colleagues in the admin room "would anyone like a chocolate". The nurse who took my consent and checked my details kept asking if the "leaflet" had explained everything. I think I told her maybe five times I had not received an information leaflet. Luckily for me I've had the procedure several times before so knew what to expect. Once in the room for the procedure, it was a very tired, very cluttered room with very poor internet reception so that the consultant found it extremely difficult to locate past clinic letters so I was laid on the bed for quite sometime before things happened. Throat spray was administered, prior to the procedure the consultant had told me I would receive pain relief as well as sedation, I can hand on heart say no such pain relief was administered and during the procedure I was in a great deal of pain and tried to raise my arm to try and get them to stop so I could compose myself as I was in floods of tears. Once the torture had stopped I was asked a couple of questions then wheeled out of the room on the bed. I had literally been in the recovery area less than 5 minutes before a member of staff came to check that I was ready to leave, I sat up, went very dizzy and they said I could stay a little longer. Another maybe 5 minutes went past they came back and I was popped onto a chair, given a drink and a biscuit which I ate whilst they called for my lift. I was asked if I wanted my spouse with me whilst the outcome was explained and I said no it was fine. So I was literally read what it said on the sheet with no explanations. I then left and thankfully met by my spouse in the waiting area and we found our way back to the carpark. I left thinking this is probably the worst of all the endoscopies I've ever had, in the shabbiest of settings.

Review titled Gastroscopy - great service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by LucyP - Posted on 25 April 2024
Despite having a gastroscopy before (at another hospital) I was pretty nervous on arrival at Cheltenham hospital. It looked like a busy unit with patients waiting for gastroscopies and colonoscopies, however all the staff were brilliant and very patient. The clinical staff answered all my questions and at no point did I feel rushed. They took the time to introduce themselves and explain what would happen, making sure I was comfortable at all times. I wish I could mention names but 3 staff in particular who looked after me during my procedure (gastroscopy with sedation) were exceptional. As an ex NHS clinical staff member I was very impressed. I left feeling reassured. Thank you.

I had an endoscopy appointment on 30 March 24 with an arrival time of 0800, we got there early at 0740 and were immediately given "paperwork" to complete, then I got called in for "observations" BP, sats etc, I was called in for my Endoscopy at 0810 had the throat spray and my "bite piece" inserted then the Endoscope went in, painless✅ a little discomfort but nothing more and kept fully informed by the excellent staff, I was out by 0825 then a cup of tea, biscuits and a copy of my observation report and I was home in Gloucester by 0905✅ Absolutely superb! Service by our wonderful NHS staff, my thanks go out to you all, a big thank you from me ❤️👍😉😎
