  1. Review titled Super Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Elaine Kirk - Posted on 23 December 2024

An ambulance was called for me when I collapsed in Tesco on December about 11am. Paramedics came very quickly and looked after me and did several tests. When they were sure I was well enough to travel they took me to A& E. I was taken straight to a bay. Nursing staff were very kind, a was the first doctor I saw. I was then moved to the EMU after there were concerns about my standing blood pressure. I was discharged at around 7pm after the doctor agreed I was well enough. Many thanks to all the staff for looking after me so well.

  2. Review titled Endocrinology colossal incompetence

by Andy - Posted on 05 November 2024

Had a bone density scan. Had to push the department for the results as it was taking so long. The department confirmed that they had the results on 25 October; however, the consultant went on annual leave until 5 November and therefore instead of delegating the responsibility to another staff member to inform me of the results, they made me wait 11 days unnecessarily just because someone was enjoying a nice holiday. Utterly shambolic and disgraceful. In addition, I am also autistic - which they are fully aware of - and that the compulsion for certainty and information is intense and any information vacuum causes significant psychological distress. Yet they made me wait 11 days for nothing because they could not manage a simple task of delegation to have the results of my scan imparted to me on the day they were made available (25 Oct). For once, words fail me.

  3. Review titled Staff Car Parking!

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 December 2024

Please ensure staff parking is more clearly marked! I have just received a fine of £15 plus £1.50 admin fee for parking in part of car park 10 which is apparently staff parking. We had an appointment, had tried car park 1 which was full so parked in one of a few spaces in car park 10. We did not see any notices saying ‘staff parking’. Please make this more clear. An alternative would be to give staff the whole of certain car parks, eg, 10 & 4, and visitors and patients the rest. They could then be very clearly marked as staff or make it so barriers only open for registered registration numbers! I’m fuming! Would you rather patients be late for appointments? On top of the £16.50 I had already paid £2.50….£19 in total for less than an hour in the hospital!!

  4. Review titled Appointment information

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was not sent or did not receive details of ultrasound. It would be easier these days to e mail or text or phone. This has happened in other department years ago. Earlier I waited for a call but received letter the same day cancelling . No problem with dept just appt dept. Orthopaedic staff and consultant are great

  5. Review titled Sadly quite shocked and disappointed

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 August 2024

I hate writing this because I genuinely love our NHS, but the treatment was minimal. My partner fell down a full flight of stairs, suffering a broken arm and cut to the head. Discharged after 10pm on a Sunday without any pain relief when all the pharmacies were shut, and we were told that the hospital's pharmacy was also shut. The cut was looked at but no one cleaned the wound and it was still bleeding when we got home. The bays were all full, and other patients were waiting outside of bays and looking in because the staff didn't even close the curtains. On the plus side people were friendly and offered refreshments, but that is all. No advice given on how to adjust a sling or care for yourself and a 5-7 day wait for anyone at the fracture clinic to even call, so we still wait. I'm sorry to write this, I expected better treatment for something like a broken limb. Lower your expectations massively or maybe try some where else if you can drive further away.

  6. Review titled Superb service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lorraine - Posted on 23 August 2024

I had an appointment at the breast screening one stop shop service yesterday and I have to say the service is second to none. I was seen within two weeks of being referred from my GP, and was seen on time for my appointment. I saw a consultant immediately, was examined and then sent for a mammogram and ultrasound scan. I received the results immediately which thankfully were clear which was very reassuring. The Staff, from the receptionists to the consultant, nurses and radiographers were all incredibly friendly. Well done to the team in this department and the NHS!

  7. Review titled Failure to provide reasonable adjustments. Suite 3 - Endocrinology

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Andy - Posted on 15 August 2024

Had agreed a reasonable adjustment with the hospital and department (Suite 3) for a private room to wait in when I arrived for my appointment as I am autistic and cannot wait in busy main waiting room environments. When I arrived, there was no room and I was told to wait in the main waiting area, which I managed for about 10 minutes before being overwhelmed and leaving the hospital without being seen. Utterly appalling discriminatory failings and a breach of existing equality legislation. A pre action protocol letter has been issued and will be issued every single time a prior agreed reasonable adjustment is not provided as agreed. Autistic patients have needs and legal rights when accessing healthcare. Deal with it Chesterfield Royal, provide it or face litigation each and every time!

  8. Review titled Fantastic staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Marjorie Bosworth - Posted on 27 July 2024

I spent yesterday at the chesterfield royal hospital in the emergency dept. I was seen very quickly because of my breathing difficulty. I had amazing treatment and spent 9 hours at the hospital to get my heartbeat and breathing under control.I Found out I have a heart murmur and fluid in my lungs. I was put on heart medication and was told more appointments would come in the post.. I was even fed sandwiches and drinks. You have amazing doctors and nurses and all the rest of your staff who help to keep the hospital to such a high standard. Thank you to the nhs

  9. Review titled The very best care and experience - endocrinology

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Andy - Posted on 08 July 2024

I received the very best care, advice and support from endocrinology. Everything was explained thoroughly and I felt listened to, supported and understood. My needs as an autistic patient were met and considered, which is stark contrast to some other departments within the hospital and I cannot recommend this service highly enough.

  10. Review titled Absolutely Amazing Response

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 July 2024

Had a sudden flare up of Crohns on Sunday morning. After 20 odd years. Paramedics arrived in 10 minutes to find me on my bed half passed out. Blood pressure of 70 over 40. Put some fluids in me, locked the house up. Got straight into resus. No waiting. Treated brilliantly and kindly. Was moved to majors where I was given a commode to use. Passed more blood. Went back to resus and then had a C T scan for the abdomen. Found to have no abnormalities. Back to resus where I was monitored. When all results were in and all my readings were normal I was moved to a ward which was beautiful as was the whole of the rest of the areas I visited. Every member of staff on these two days were brilliant. I was in ward 4 / 4 in the emergency department I believe. I saw three doctors during my time over the weekend which is unheard of where my Dad lives. Sleeping was a bit rough because of all the noise but I realise I am trying to sleep in a working environment so it’s to be expected when you’re not used to it. I have been lucky enough not to have an extensive history with the NHS unlike some people who have poor health. As much as this was a fairly traumatic experience for me, I was so reassured by your hospital and staff that I can’t believe I am sitting typing this review in my front room today having been discharged after one day. I have now been put back on drugs for Crohns which is a bit sad after all this time but weirdly reassuring and have been referred to I B department. Anyway the whole experience I have to say (despite the horror of all the blood) was a first class hospital experience. My partner who drove all the way from Bedford to come to my house to pack me a bag concurred with me. He said very well organised and that I well looked after. Thanks to everyone I had contact with including paramedic staff, doctors, nurses, auxiliary nurses, porters and cleaning staff all of which treated me with dignity and respect.
