Review titled A & E Admission
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by David Scrivener - Posted on 22 March 2024
I was taken by ambulance to Chesterfield Royal Hospital following an accident involving major trauma to my lower leg. Despite its being a Saturday night, I was taken into A & E promptly without waiting in the ambulance. I had to wait a short while before being taken into a bay and being assessed. Having had an x-ray and a temporary cast I was taken onto the ward without having to wait in a corridor. Contrary to the horror stories one sees in the news, I thought the organisation of my admission was handled very efficiently.

Review titled Endocrinology ignorant of autistic patient needs
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Andy - Posted on 06 March 2024
I have been attempting to get some important information from the Endocrinology department all week and they are not responding. I have contacted the Patient Experience Team who have contacted the department on my behalf to be fair to them; however, the Endocrinology department still refuse to meet my needs as an autistic patient and provide the information I require, to establish clarity and certainty due to me having a compulsion for completion and to ultimately alleviate psychological distress and avoidable harm. My needs are inordinately simple to meet and yet the Endocrinology department, along with the hospital trust in general are alarmingly ignorant to the needs of autistic patients and significant training and improvements in this area is needed before somebody pursues a class action against them. I am not looking forward to my Endocrinology appointment, when I finally find out when it is! If my experience in this review is the norm for demonstrable standards of professionalism, support and communication from Endocrinology towards a patient with specific needs due to autism, then I have reservations regarding their clinical acumen and competence and how this will impact my healthcare. Please sort it out Chesterfield Hospital. Autistic patients have specific needs that must be met by law so start meeting them and start raising your game because autistic patients aren't going to put up with this any longer.

Review titled Brilliant Physiotherapy
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Barry - Posted on 27 February 2024
After being lucky enough to have been paralysed for the second time in January 2023 upon being discharged from Derby Rehabilitation I was referred to the Neurological Physiotherapy department at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. The Neurological physiotherapist was put in charge of my recovery, and the help, knowledge, and confidence that was instilled in me was incredible. To recover from a second paralysis I thought would be beyond possible as I am not a spring chicken but my physiotherapist was confident that I would walk again. The physiotherapist was correct, I'm stunned at the progress I've made but it's down to the skill and persistence of the brilliant physiotherapist. My treatment by the Hospital and all the staff I've met has been exemplary, I cannot praise everyone enough.

Review titled Wonderful care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Roy - Posted on 11 March 2024
We would like share our grateful appreciation for the wonderful care Roy received when he was admitted following heart failure. All the staff, in every Department, were so professional, caring and considerate and it is only because of this Roy is now at home on the way to what we hope will be a full recovery.

Review titled Long wait but caring staff in Chesterfield A&E
by The Boxer - Posted on 22 January 2024
After my third visit to my surgery, I was referred to A&E and arrived about 1.00pm. Having registered my attendance I saw the 9hrs 30mins wait time. I felt horrendous and was in two minds to cancel and go home but decided to sit it out. The doctor referred me as my oxygen level was very low and I was exhausted having had my symptoms since October 2023. I was given oxygen and a nebuliser and arrived at EMU at 2350hours from 1pm. The staff were very caring and informative but the whole system needs to be addressed before it collapses. We have got a situation now where people cannot define what Accident & Emergency really means. I do sympathise with the staff, they've been left out in the cold and the situation must be addressed before they all reach breaking point.

Review titled Busy a and e
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jean Oneill - Posted on 16 January 2024
Arrived at the department with suspected broken ankle. Left unaccompanied by very helpful neighbour who had other family commitments of her own. quite quickly Seen by a nurse practitioner, who filled me with confidence. Necessitated 3 three trips to x ray and visit to plaster room. Because I was unaccompanied clinical staff had to transport me between departments. Very grateful for this but felt guilty that I was taking staff away from clinical duties. A consultation was also arranged with physio and ot to assess my ability to cope at home Although I was in an and e for several hours I was very Impressed with the whole experience. I was particularly impressed by the nurse practitioner who co ordinated the whole experience. Staff were under enormous pressure but remained calm and focused. Very positive experience Thank you

Review titled Caring Professional Team
Rated 5 stars out of 5

My elderly dad had some problems with a tooth which had been embedded in his gum for over 50 years. The team at maxillofacial where amazing. They really took care of my dad and put us both at ease. I can't thank them enough for taking care and looking after my 88 year old dad. They are a credit to Chesterfield Royal hospital.

Review titled Absolutely first class experience - I was so impressed
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Adam - Posted on 15 March 2024
I reported an ongoing issue with my foot which required minor surgery. I was so impressed with my experience with the hospital and with every healthcare professional that I dealt with. Communication was clear and timely, there was no waiting around when I reported for appointments, everyone I engaged with was kind and professional. All departments, from the consultant doctor, nurses, pre-op assessment, surgery ward staff - just brilliant. I couldn't have asked for more, felt compelled to leave this review as there's obviously lots of press about NHS performance and patient experience. Full marks! I have now regrettably moved away from Chesterfield, I only wish I could still report there for treatment!
