Review titled Thanks for saving my life. Fantastic nurses !
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Richard HARKER - Posted on 04 December 2024
999 said 'No ambulance, as only a heart attack'. My wife ignored their advice to get Defibrillator from Chippenham High St, and for me to take some aspirin for my heart attack. Went to Chippenham. Hospital. After a while seen by nurses, who checked me out. Ecg fine, Bp low, v. bad pain moved from heart, to lower left back ( next to left Kidney: a dull pain, with fluid slushing around it ( according to me). This confused me and the Nurses. A big thank you to the nurse who decided to send me to the Ruh, Bath! Saved my life. After a wait, an ambulance took me the Ruh, where the next good decision was made. The ambulance staff were so, so, good, too. What a great team! We arrived in Bath at the Ruh. Big queues, as one would expect ( 100+ patients), on a Friday. Crew gave me a cup of tea and a chicken sandwich. Most excellent! Waited in ambulance, in the corridor, and a room area (ward?). I got wired up and checked by the excellent staff, here. Ecg good, no pain around heart, dull pain in lower left back. A young doctor arrived. Hands ice cold, now. I lost consciousness twice, and BP was low. We were both confused as to how the pain around my heart had gone and I now had a dull pain near my left kidney. He prodded and poked and held both my hands ... then he made a magical decision .... we'll do a Ct scan! no. 2 decision that saved my life. He told me of the 3 likely causes of my problem. Spot on, top man. Later after my Ct scan he told me. I've good news and bad news! Hit me with the good news, doctor, said I.' Your Aorta if fine. Unfortunately, you have a burst artery above your left kidney ( in the vessel connecting the Left Adrenal Gland), and we've been very busy finding an appropriate hospital and surgeon to fix it. So, off I went to Broadmead Hospital, Bristol , to the Vascular Unit. There, I was treated by an amazing team of nurses and doctors who sorted me out. The surgeon whose team operated on me was also a Renal Transplant Consultant, so he certainly knew where to find my left kidney! His team were amazing experts. Without his teams intervention, I would , most likely, have bled to death at some time in the near future, with an abdominal cavity full of blood. So , that was the third team, involved in my 24 hr journey through the Nhs system , and it worked. They also saved my life. Notwithstanding, the current resourcing difficulties, the Doctors, Nurses, and Paramedics saved my life (most probably), through their dedication and professionalism. And, for that I'm most grateful. Thank you.

After waiting for 2 hours, the staff were very busy with other patients. Seen a nurse in the minor injury section, and was very helpful with my cut on my hand.

Review titled Orthopaedic Interface Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mary Rennie - Posted on 13 May 2024
I had an appointment today, 13 May 24. The person I saw was professional and courteous. He listened carefully, answered all my questions, and explained my diagnosis. He treated me like a person and not a symptom. I had had to wait four months in pain for an appointment but I am very glad I saw him - a credit to his profession. I understand the next steps and what to do if my symptoms worsen. Thank you.

My 80 year old husband had a nasty fall that needed attention. He was seen promptly and treated with efficiency, care and kindness. Subsequent visits to check the wounds and organise X-rays were equally good. Well done to you all, you should be proud of yourselves. Thank you so much.

Review titled NHS at its best
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I went to Chippenham Community Hospital Minor Injuries Unit last Thursday as I had a some grit embedded on the surface of my eye. I was expecting a long wait and a possible referral to Bath or Swindon if Chippenham couldn’t help, based on the info I’d been given on the phone. . However I was seen after a relatively short wait - around 30 minutes . I saw an agency doctor who was friendly and very reassuring. After checking my eye he quickly sorted my problem with a splash of anaesthetic and a cotton bud. Didn’t feel a thing. He checked for any damage once the grit was removed, and I left with some antibiotic eye ointment and a much more comfortable eye. Just a very minor problem compared to others the NHS deals with, but a brilliant experience nonetheless. Thank you.

Review titled Physiotherapy Department
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Angela Jones-Moore - Posted on 22 February 2024
I had an appointment today, the physiotherapist was so incredibly thorough and understanding. Covering my full history which no other medical practitioner has done. Compassionate and explained everything to me, as well as a physical examination. The Chippenham Physiotherapy department gets a full recommendation from me.

Your Review: Thanks to the team on duty 03/12/2023, who patched me up after I severely cut my thump. I arrive 7:59pm and the service was meant to close at 8pm. I was expecting to be turned away but the ENP was very kind and did not show me any negative attitude. It was a wet and cold Sunday night and I am sure they all wanted to go home, so I am grateful your team was able to ‘double up’ to patch me up quickly. The thing I liked the most is that even though you were closed, I did not feel rushed, you booked my follow up and even went the extra mile to rebook said appointment at a nearer GP to my home. I know my cut wasn’t life threatening but you seeing me meant that I could return home and put my kids to bed rather than sit in A&E for several hrs. It also meant I could rest and return to work the following day. Thank you

My young daughter is registered with the Orthotics team at Chippenham hospital and we have found their practice to be both thorough and friendly. They are always friendly and patient to ensure she receives the most comfortable insole solution. We would recommend the team to others requiring Orthotic treatment. Thank you for your good work.

Review titled Fantastic staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mary Reed - Posted on 22 June 2023
My son broke his arm and we experienced an extremely long wait between xray and being seen. The staff were amazing. The triage nurse was very attentive and kind, kept us up to date and even provided sid with a fiddle toy and the receptionist were so understanding, kind and helpful. When we were seen we were treated very well. It was very hot and very boring and sid was in pain. If the staff had been any other way it would have been and awful experience but they really seemed to care. Massively appreciated
