  1. Review titled Great care and team work at all levels

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by ISABELLA WRIGHT - Posted on 02 February 2023

Patient in Bay F , Layer Marney Ward for 11 nights where I received first class care from staff at all levels. The effective teamwork was on display throughout my stay and all staff took time to engage with patients.

  2. Review titled A* care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was on duty at the time as a police officer when I was looking after a prisoner that was brought on the ward. Throughout my time on the ward I noticed that although the staff were extremely busy. They didn’t come across as rushed and listened to each of the patients needs and ensured that they were looked after. All staff were an excellent example of the NHS and how they operate. It’s reassuring to see that if I or a member of my family was on the ward that I would be in trusted hands with people who really care about what they do!

  4. Review titled Prompt and effecient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Cannot thank the paramedics and the a&e department at Colchester Hospital enough. Having called 111 followed by 999 due to deterioration of my Dad the service was incredible. Arrival of the ambulance service within 30 minutes, very reassuring and caring. The staff do not get enough praise but too much negativity. I will also be expressing my gratitude to the local press.

  5. Review titled Great Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Trish Booth - Posted on 28 January 2023

My husband was extremely sick and I was so relieved when he turned a corner once he came onto the Layer Marney ward. I can see that his dignity is protected as much as possible with things like personal care. He has been here for two weeks and no redness or soreness down below-which shows excellent practice in the circumstances I know that sort of soreness can happen really quickly and is dreadful for the patient so. I am really pleased they are so vigilant Plus cheerful as well which does make a difference

  7. Review titled Very efficient and effective

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 January 2023

Having read about issue and A&E it was with some trepidation that I came to Colchester. The initial triage was by having to fill in a form in the porch. I saw even in the few minutes I was there it was obvious that this was needed as people were being referred elsewhere. From then on I could not fault the service, after10 minutes in the waiting room I was in a triage room, where the appropriate tests took place and I was then moved to surgical assessment where I saw a consultant quickly, who after blood tests prescribed the actions that needed taking. I was treated and discharged around 5 hours of arriving. Although I will not go into clinical details here my condition was given as potentially life changing/threatening and I was given the follow up information I needed. At every stage I was treated with kindness, compassion and courtesy. I am am hard of hearing my wife accompanied me on every stage and the staff communicated through her as appropriate. I could not fault the service I received on that day. The only issue was that you held my details from when I was admitted as an emergency by ambulance many years ago and the A&E system did not transfer over my new address, despite the person on reception confirming the new address. As a result the discharge letter had the incorrect address.

  8. Review titled Great Service.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Simon - Posted on 26 January 2023

My appointment came within days of being referred and the telephone confirmation was very professional. I arrived early and, luckily, was seen ahead of my appointment time. The staff were very friendly and made me feel at ease. The procedure was quick and even during it I was advised all was looking good which was exactly what I wanted to hear. Then medication was given to me there and then rather than queueing at a pharmacy and clear and efficient information given to me. Basically I was treated swiftly, efficently and in a friendly and professional manner. The whole experience couldn't have been easier. I appreciate the NHS is under extreme pressure at the moment. Maybe I was just lucky on the day, but I was really impressed by the whole experience. Well done !!

  10. Review titled Can't fault it

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julia Pollard - Posted on 12 January 2023

We visited the hospital on 11.01.23. My son had hurt himself in school and had a bad cut above his eye. From the moment we arrived at the hospital everyone took care of him, I filled out the form on arrival and could go straight through to the children emergency unit (not quite sure what it was called) my son was very distraught and scared and a nurse came straight away when she heard him crying and took him in to access him. My son has been a little dramatic and she handled it so well, stayed calm with him the whole way through, got him to breathe slowly so that she could clean the would and glue it up. She has been very kind and made me feel more at ease (this was the first time for me having to go to A&E with my son for such a bad injury) We did not have to wait at all from the moment we arrived until we left, thank you for making this horrible experience for my son so much easier and better!
