Review titled Nurse-Led Clinics are the way to go!
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Beth - Posted on 02 February 2023
In the past, I have had absolutely awful medical experiences — not just in Colchester but everywhere. But, I was seen in the colposcopy clinic today and the Lead Nurse was absolutely amazing — honestly a credit to the NHS. She actually listened to me when I talked about my concerns, and asked questions to learn more about who I am as a person before just seeing my symptoms and tailored what we were doing around my current conditions and worries — she made sure I had pain relief for my procedure to help with my chronic pain which I’ve never been offered before. She really made me feel listened to, heard and I came out of that clinic feeling like I had been totally cared for and confident that I’d received the best support and medical care. Her, and her team, made something traumatic and invasive feel not only possible but easier than I’d ever imagined. Thank you so much!

Review titled Disappointing start but brilliant care
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 December 2022
I attended A&E on Monday 12th as I had suffered a nosebleed for 7 hours. On arrival we were thrusted a form and told to fill it out and wait, No triage, no assessment just sit. every now and then a nurse came in and shouted "Who's Next" to which everyone called out. I suffer from a rare clotting disorder and was not triaged at all, after 50 minutes in a small room with others without masks coughing and spluttering I left to try and handle things myself. The following day I had to contact Haematology at Colchester as the bleed had continued overnight taking it up to 24 hours. I was called straight in to see them, When I arrived I was immediately cared for by two members of the Haematology team. I felt cared for at all times when with these two lovely people. Once they had taken bloods and provided me the tablets i needed to assist the clotting procedure, I was taken to A&E again to await ENT to come and investigate, Thanks to the nurse from Haematology I was sent straight to triage to await ENT's arrival. The ENT doctor was very professional and treated me with dignity and respect at all times. He quickly provided packing and quarterisation to halt the bleeding. He also provided me with nasal cream to assist the healing process. The only problem I have is that despite me trying to get someone's attention in A&E on the 12th, None of the nurses triaging patients wanted to talk to me reference my condition, they just wanted me to fill their forms. Overall despite the disappointing A&E experience, the care I received at Colchester was brilliant and I owe them a massive debt of gratitude for all their help in co-ordinating my are and recovery

Thank you for your taking the time to leave your comments regarding your recent experience at Colchester Hospital. I am sorry that your experience in A&E was not as expected and for any inconvenience that this may have caused. It is great to hear that the Haematology and the ENT teams listened to your condition and helped stop the bleeding. I have forwarded your comments onto the matrons for the areas concerned with your care and treatment who will share with their teams and use your comments to help drive improvements. Many thanks

Attended this department with my husband, it was extremely busy but we have nothing but praise for all the staff who work there. Received excellent care and despite the huge volume of patients who were there the staff were working flat out. So thank you to everyone at Colchester A&E we appreciate all of you

Review titled Amazing and genuinely caring staff
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Jessica - Posted on 04 January 2023
I came in late on New Year’s Eve being transferred from the out of hours doctor to get further tests done, I was very anxious and I arrived sobbing to 2 nurses, who were absolutely brilliant and calmed me down and got me seen quickly. One particular nurse made me feel at ease, she was so lovely and checked on me the whole time I was there, when I was being seen by other doctors and nurses. Luckily what I went in for wasn’t anything serious, but even though I felt silly getting upset, they were all so reassuring and genuinely cared for me. Anyone feeling scared about going to a&e/urgent treatment centre, shouldn’t be, as you’ll be in good hands.

Review titled pacing clinic
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Joy Rolfe - Posted on 18 January 2023
I had my battery box changed- routine. I was given a monitoring home box (very sceptical about this),and came home as planned. Within a couple of weeks I was called by a very nice young man from the pacing clinic, to ask how things were, I thought I had missed an appointment initially, after a few minuets chatting away, he asked me if I could go and see them that day. I duly did after further conversations and tests, he turned to me and said he was very sorry but I needed to stay in hospital. I was not expecting this to happen, I was taken to Amsdecs where I was told I had a bed on the acute cardiac ward. So after all the usual swabs.bloods and seeing the admitting doctor I was transferred to this ward. By this time it was sinking in how serious the situation had become. I was hooked up to a monitor, portable chest x.ray seen by the admitting consultant, he was extremely kind and explained that the next day I would be having my pacemaker replaced as the wire to the lower chamber of my heart had fractured and would need replacing the next day. All being well I would be going home the next evening. Everything went as planned and I was discharged late evening the next day. Thank you to both the lovely young men in the pacing clinic, the staff in Amsdec, The lovely consultant and the fantastic staff on the high dependency cardiac unit, They were all extremely busy but found time to make me feel at ease. I and my family cannot thank you enough. If it had not been for that monitoring box, it could have been a very different story.xx

I am currently on Lexden Ward (hopefully going home today). I came in first through triage and then moved upstairs to lexden and every single person I have met has been nothing short of amazing. Consultants, doctors, midwives, HCA’s every single person has been welcoming, kind, compassionate and made my scary stay much much easier. The care has been thorough and considerate and nothing has been too much trouble. Your staff here are incredible & I hope you know what special people you have working for your trust. Thank you so much

Review titled Most wonderful experience :-)
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kourtney - Posted on 28 November 2022
The asthma and allergy nurse specialist that I see with my daughter was phenomenal. From being kind and considerate about us running slightly late due to not being able to find a place to park, to reassuring me and my daughter on everything the appointment was for. The last experience we had in this department left me walking out in tears so I was rather cautious coming into this one but I left beaming. I truly cannot explain how wonderful and kind the nurse we see was. She was amazing with ng daughter and so informative about everything. I’m very very grateful !!!
