  1. Review titled Avoid this place if you can

Abysmal is an understatement. I have had the misfortune of being under the Gastro team at this hospital for about 2 years. It took well over a year to get an appointment, then the doctor was incredibly rude. The service since has been appalling. They could not care less. I would suggest going absolutely anywhere but here as you will not be looked after in the slightest. Avoid like the plague!!!!!!!!

  2. Review titled Antanental triage waiting hours and no doctors available

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Kar - Posted on 26 April 2024

I gave a birth 3 weeks ago and since then had a big pain above my wound. I had ultrascan today at 3pm and was told that there is fluid above my wound and should speak with antanental team what to do. I went to antanental department and waited there 5h with my 3 week old baby. No doctor has seen me. No one was even able to give me any approximate time. I kept asking for an update every hour but the midwifes said no doctors have been available for all this time. After 5h one doctor came to tell me she will start seeing people but not in the order they came but risk order which means I am not at risk and there are several women to be seen before me who came hours after me. I appreciate that other people nay have worse conditions but at least at A&E you have some sort of order and can manage your expectations, whereas at triage no one cares and you have no idea if you need to wait 1h, 5h or 10h. Aftee 5h I just gave up and left and haven't received any help or advice. 5h waiting for nothing. Zero empathy.

I had an appointment scheduled today at 7:30am for tooth extraction in the Elective Surgery department at the University hospital in Croydon. I waited 3 hours for the surgeon to turn up to do the surgery. He did not arrive to do my surgery. None of the other medical professionals in the department knew how to contact him. The whole experience was outrageous and disappointing.

  5. Review titled Unreliable, uncaring maternity

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by Tyler Beattie-Soper - Posted on 11 March 2024

Appointments continually being changed last minute, scan deadlines set for incorrect dates then swapped for an even more incorrect date. My wife will now miss her 20-week scan as the midwife originally booked it for the 23rd week, then changed it to the 24th and then two days out was told that it has to be moved to the 28th week - at which point many of the anomalies which it's for will no longer be able to be spotted. Just an awful hospital with no care for the patients and stress and anxiety repeated failures can cause. Consultant refused to take the call and instead told the receptionist to tell us to go away.

  6. Review titled Awful experience, waste of time

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Ewelina - Posted on 24 March 2024

I went in this morning to a&e, as I’m having problems with my knee, the receptionist booked me in for GP appointment, however when I was finally seen by the GP, he just told me they can’t do anything for me and I should go back to my practice. No check ups, no tests, nothing!!! I wasted my entire day because no one bothered to let me know in advance that in this hospital no one cares about people!! Absolutely awful experience and would never recommend going there!

I have been impressed with the experience on the day, the follow up however has not been good. I was told over the weekend my case will be looked at and be informed on the Monday the out come. It is the following Thursday and no news, and no contact details which is why this is the only way to contact you

  8. Review titled Worst experience ever

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 February 2024

The ambulance took me on Tuesday night at A&E around 11pm because of shortness of breath and abdominal pain. The moment I got there they took me for blood test and I told them that I think I’m going to faint. I started to vomit and the nurse was just looking at me without doing anything and then left and didn’t come back for another 10 minutes. We were then sent to the waiting area. All night I’ve been told a doctor will come to see me but the big surprise was in the morning when one of the nurses told me that the gynaecology doctors don’t work during the night and they start their shifts at 8am. Another 4h of waiting and someone came to finally see me. They’ve put in a room and gave me paracetamol and a lot of fluids which made me feel even more bloated than I was before. I asked not to have those fluids anymore and they finally stopped them. Not to mention that all I could see were air bubbles going through my veins and I was quite worried about them, I was asking the nurses all the time to remove them, which they did, but they also said the air bubbles won’t hurt me. I’m not a doctor or a nurse but I honestly don’t think air bubbles going through your veins is something normal. I had the scan next morning at 9:30am and had to wait until 9pm for one of the doctors to come and tell me that everything is okay and I can go home.. That was definitely the worst experience I’ve ever had in my entire life.

  9. Review titled Horrifying Maternity “Care”

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Cia - Posted on 28 February 2024

Don’t even think about having your maternity care here. Past appointments have been changed 1 hour before the appointment time via e-letter via a random NHS portal or confirmation of appointments haven’t been sent through at all by any form of comms (email, text, post). I’ve been left waiting in waiting rooms for 30 mins - 2 hours due to staff shortages and lack of communication from the admin staff. Today I was given the wrong time and location for my appointment which I had to verify again. Also a member of the Midwife Team, spoke to me on the phone at home 20 minutes before my appointment with her as she needed some medical information from me that I had previously presented the hospital with several times (also she did not tell me who she was and where she was calling from at the start of the conversation and did not have the right information ready when asking me questions which left me waiting on the phone instead of leaving the house). This then caused me to leave my house a little late and be slightly delayed for my appointment at 10am. I arrived 10:05am and was told that I needed to do a urine sample first (I was not told that this would be a part of my appointment at the point of booking). As soon as I was called into the appointment she raised her voice and started to have a go at me for being late she went off on a rant which I had to stop her as I didn’t appreciate her tone and rudeness. I explained why I was slightly delayed due to her phone call and the confusion with the time and location due to the confusing text confirmations I received. She should have also taken into consideration that she had me on the phone 20 mins before my appointment time and she needed to factor in the urine sample I was asked to take first by the Receptionist. Nonetheless, she continued to threaten to end my appointment and kept being rude to me / not listening to me at all, even though I was just explaining my experience and asked her to continue with the appointment. I had explained several times to the hospital staff at all appointments that I have been experiencing abdominal pains and bleeding and had to complain several times due to my appointments being booked on the completely wrong weeks and that I still didn’t have a midwife for point of call but at this appointment she didn’t seem to take this into consideration even though she had read my background information before I arrived. The appointment was incredibly stressful and at the end of it she told me not to stress, take things easy and to be on bedrest until my next appointment as it will be bad for the pregnancy if I stress and she had then told me that she had booked my next appointment with another midwife instead despite her explaining this hospital does continuity of care and she books the women she sees with her.

  10. Review titled Poor and upsetting

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 February 2024

We spent 17 hours in A&E yesterday (5th-6th February 2024). It was so upsetting seeing my husband and other patients in pain without proper support from the professionals they are relying on. I am thankful that after 17 hours we had a prescription given to us, but we still haven't been told the root cause. It was distressing to see a lady collapse in the A&E waiting area after not being seen for an extended amount of time. The doctors slowly walked towards her whilst her daughter started screaming "Please do something! We've been waiting for hours and we're losing her!". There was also a lady bent over in pain from kidney stones asking for some pain medication whilst she waited; she was repeatedly dismissed by the care professionals. The security team had a few difficult patients to deal with throughout the night. However, I was ignored when I notified them about a man rolling weed in front of me in the waiting area. The man then resorted to walking around the facility with the unlit cigarette in his mouth, further nauseating those around him. It was a shocking experience. The night was made more stressful by the main water machine and coffee machine, both of which were out of order. In a facility where people are ill and are forced to spend an extended amount of time in the waiting area, it was confusing to also see that the vending machine only offered chocolates, biscuits and crisps. I would suggest that the hospital offer some healthy and substantial snacks too for the health of the patients in their care. I asked for updates about the timings throughout the night as I was meant to be at work yesterday (I wasn't able to go in due to this experience). We were initially told a four hour wait, then a six and half hour wait, and eventually an eight hour wait. I was met with vague responses, a lack of care and an absence of understanding each time I asked, which caused further distress to my husband who was in acute pain. Whilst I hope not to have the disadvantage of revisiting this hospital again, I do hope this review will encourage Croydon University Hospital to hire more compassionate staff, provide more thorough training, and dramatically improve their A&E department for the health and well-being of those in need. I am extremely disappointed. Thank you.
