Review titled Communication is important
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Patient Female - Posted on 18 October 2024
I am profoundly deaf. I was admitted as an emergency to accident and emergency Doctor and team there communicated with me through text and writing. It was done respectfully and not grumbled about the extra minutes this took. I was cared for and communicated with as a patient. Later experiences were not as adaptable with some doctors only speaking to my partner, who is hearing. Some nursing staff made the efforts to write short notes to keep me informed others just started administering fluids or medication and had to be asked by me what was happening. I am grateful for the care that helped me to recover. Thank you NHS .

Review titled The wait was too long
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Martin - Posted on 06 October 2024
I attended the A&E in the early minutes of 5th October, the wait time was shown as 7 hours, this kept going up to 9 hours 30 mins, when I was finally seen by a doctor the wait time 7 hours but I had been waiting 10 hours, I believe I was forgotten by the staff and by passed. I had pneumonia in my left lung and in a lot of pain. I left after 11 hours.

Review titled Very impressed with the care I received.
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I experienced my first (and hopefully only) endoscopy today and want to express my thanks to the lovely staff. From arrival to departure, everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. I was informed throughout of every aspect of the procedure and felt listened to and cared for. Due to no fault of the nursing team, there was a slight delay, however, I was frequently checked on and kept informed. The staff in this team made what could have been an unpleasant experience more than bearable. Thank you.

Review titled Terrible experience
Rated 1 star out of 5

My mam was transferred from Bishop - Darlington hospital following knee replacement surgery. Family members have had to go in and bed bath her as no one has offered a shower, a wash or for her to have her teeth brushed in almost a week of her being there. We are taking our own water in as she is sometimes being left 4-5 hours without a drink despite asking for one. No info being given as to what testing results are despite having a possible blood clot, what their next steps will be for her recovery, or what treatment she has actually received. Room she was put into in emergency department was unclean, had used medical equipment from previous patient, staff not checking rooms frequent enough (walked in and my mothers medication had began to work whilst she was given a sandwich and nearly choked as she was unsupervised) Terrible experience would not recommend.

From the paramedics, to the A&E staff, and the Doctors, Nurses, and all the staff on the various wards my husband was on, his care was excellent. We would like to pass on our thanks for your dedicated work.

Visited the accident and emergency department on the request of my GP under a potential medical emergency. I was left to wait to see a DR for 15 hours!!! I left before I was able to see a dr as the waiting times were dragging with every hour. I recommend people avoid this hospital at all costs.

Review titled Could not ask for more
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Gordon Fraser - Posted on 27 August 2024
Referred for Colonoscopy last week at what I must admit was short notice and very prompt- hats off to the NHS systems. Arrived for appointment and greeted by very friendly staff and almost immediately undertook medical history and prep for procedure. From there was supported and helped in a supportive manner by all the staff I encountered. Questions answered and very soon procedure undertaken with staff talking me through the whole process. At end of the procedure I was given immediate feedback and then taken to recovery where I was given toast, jam and tea- what more could I ask for after 48 hours of starvation and simple diet of laxatives! Thankyou very much to every single member of staff at Darlington hospital- from the front receptionist to the toast maker you were superb! I could not have asked for better support!

Review titled Exemplary care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Richard - Posted on 08 September 2024
Emergency admission due to perforated bowel. The care I received both during surgery and post in ITU and on ward 32 was second to none. Professionalism, compassion, friendly and that's across the board. A great team of people you should be proud of. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was great especially fish and chips Fridays!.

Review titled Friendly staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mrs Gillian Stevens - Posted on 10 June 2024
I was sent to A&E after having a blood test at my gp surgery the previous day, apparently due to a low magneseium level. I went with my husband who has Alzheimers and the treatment we received was excellent. I had to go to the day ward dept for an infusion, and the staff there treated us with respect, care and friendliness. After the treatment I had to be admitted as tests showed a calcium level was low. I was transferred to ward 44, cardiology, and again I was made comfortable with friendly nurses, hcw and all staff. Overnight I was attached to a drip that wasn't particularly comfortable however, I was given the treatment with respect and friendliness. I just wanted to express my thanks to both departments for keeping me informed of what was happening and keeping me comfortable. Thank you.
