  1. Review titled Poor practice,

Rated 1 star out of 5

Went to this department regarding breathlessness and arm pain,,after I was called to be assessed, the healthcare assistant was abrupt with me,,the doctor who gave me results of blood tests and ecg made me feel like I was wasting their time and basically said I was ok and nothing was wrong,,,not athing you should say to a person having a massive anxiety attack . No regard for patient care at all

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience. I am really sorry that your experience of being in the department has been poor and from what you have described, this is not the experience we would want for any of our patients. It is important that we look into this for you and therefore, I wondered if you would be happy to contact our PALS team. Their contact details are myh-tr.palsmidyorks@nhs.net. Thank you again and I hope you will get in touch. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

  2. Review titled Excellent Service from start to end

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sarah Hussain - Posted on 09 May 2023

I went to hospital after many years today and was pleasantly surprised by the new set-up. The staff members were amazing. The bright and chirpy receptionist lifted my painful mood as soon as I entered, the nurses, x-ray department and the doctor were all amazing. I was triaged, x-rayed and reviewed all within 2 hours! Thank you for your kindness and your advice.

  4. Review titled Disabled Parking

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 March 2023

I visited the hospital for the first time today. I rang a couple of days ago to check arrangements for disabled parking & was told there were designated places & it was free to park. There are only 4 or 5 places, I parked in one of a block of 2. These were at the far side of the car park, this being the longest distance to the main entry doors. On returning to my car I prepared to leave, expecting to find instructions on how to get out. I parked near to the pay machine (I can't walk very far). There were no instructions at the pay point as to how to get out of the car park, another lady was there in a similar position to me. We both decided to just pay in the normal way, she managed to do this however it wouldn't take either of my cards. A man pulled up next to us to ask if he could help, we told him the problem. He also had a blue badge & told us he had gone through the same rigmarole. He had gone back inside the hospital to ask for help, he told us you have to take your ticket to someone to remove the charge. I walked back & was given a new 'free' ticket. The system is fine but why aren't the instructions clearly displayed? I find walking very painful & yet, as a disabled person I had to walk 2 or 3 times further than able bodied people to find out how to get out. I wouldn't have minded paying, I just needed easier access to my car due to my disability. Instead I had to walk much further causing me pain which will take 2 or 3 days to subside. I got out in the end but please, somebody put some instructions up - at both pay points & at strategic areas in the hospital. In future I'll park in a normal spot close to the entry doors & just pay.

  5. Review titled Ward 12 hand surgery

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Keili - Posted on 01 March 2023

I had surgery on my hand yesterday and from walking through the doors at the main entrance the staff was amazing. From the volunteer we asked directions for, who took us all the way to the ward. All the staff on the ward was very nice, kind and had time for me, then in theatre as i had my surgery under local anesthetic the surgeon and theatre staff was fantastic, made me feel at ease and made sure i was comfortable, and during my operation they kept me talking. I felt very calm during the whole experience. I can't thank them enough.

  6. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Clair Hemingway - Posted on 10 January 2023

I attended Boothroyd Day Centre to have a lump removed under general anaesthetic. From walking through the door to leave my experience was brilliant. The receptionist was great, the staff nurse was very friendly, professional and clear on what would happen. The surgeon was very quick but precise when he saw me prior to theatre. The care of the nurses in recovery was second to none. They were regular asking if I was ok, provided me a little water and checked a felt well, drink and toast and again check I was feeling ok. It was a really slick process provided by caring staff. Just want to say a massive thank you to the team for what they did and how they made me feel. They are a fantastic people who are very good at what they do.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience. I can only imagine what a worrying time this must have been for you and I am really sorry to read of the experiences you have described. We are continually seeing a demand on our Emergency Departments and have seen some of the busiest days of attendances in history. Many of the patients attending are very unwell and staff have to prioritise those patients who are acutely unwell which is causing significant delays in the department. Unfortunately many of our patients are having to wait much longer than we would like. I am really sorry to read of the delays you have experienced and will share your feedback with the team. Thank you again and I hope the patient is recovering well. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

  8. Review titled Beyond ridiculous waiting time

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Val - Posted on 28 December 2022

After nearly 6 hrs in the childrens A&E, with no-one able to advise when we would get seen - like many others, we left. We got there at after midnight and left shortly before 6 in the morning. However, if you are a drunk juvenile, with police officers who have arrested you, you can get seen in less than a qtr of an hr. Unfortunately, our son is too young to use this methodology . . . otherwise trust me - we would happily have done this. What right do these idiots who get drunk and get arrested (who are otherwise perfectly fine) have to take priority over a child who is in distress and has been waiting patiently for hours ?! Apparently 'the law' and procedure dictates that it is okay for juveniles such as these to divert NHS resources from children who have actual injuries. As a hospital, Dewsbury needs to sort this out . . . I used to have respect for the plight of the frontline staff - but after this, it has pretty much gone.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding you recent experience. I am really sorry to read of your wait within the department and it is clear how upset this has left you feeling. The hospital has been under significant pressure due to a record number of attendances to our Emergency Departments, we have seen an increase in COVID cases as well as high levels of flu. Unfortunately, this has resulted in many of our patients waiting much longer than we would like and for that I am really sorry. Our staff are working extremely hard to continually provide a high standard of care and treatment alongside the many challenges we are facing. Please be assured we are doing everything we can to improve the situation and I am grateful for your feedback which will be shared within the organisation. Thank you again and I hope your son is recovering well. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

My Husband has terminal Leukaemia every time we visit, we are told appointments will follow over the last 12 months we never receive an appointment . We have to constantly chase these . Each time we have to spend up to 4 hours on the phone been passed from one person to another begging for appointment times . It is having an impact on our mental health . Such disappointing service and one that is not acceptable

  10. Review titled Staff great

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Carrie - Posted on 02 January 2023

Took my child after a 111 assessment. We weren't sat long before being triaged and then seen by a doctor. With what could have been wrong there was obviously a matter of urgency, and luckily it wasn't what was suspected . Staff were lovely and obviously working very hard.
