Review titled Refusal of Support
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 November 2024
I experienced stillbirth at the beginning of 2023. For the last two years I have repeatedly tried to access support for my mental health and each time I have been let down by the service. A crisis team that are not available 24 hours, who send different individuals out each time so you are forced to relive your trauma by explaining it again, calling for help and being told they don’t work weekends so are unable to come out, being told to put your face under water when you are in such a dissociative state you cannot physically move from the bed. Repeatedly going to the GP which results in you being fed down a pathway that leads to nowhere. I even received a letter directing me to the Talking Shop as the community mental health team is unable to support me. I go back to the GP and I am fed back down the same pathway. I’ve been repeatedly referred to the bereavement midwife at the hospital but they are unable to help as they only offer support for the first six months. I’ve been told it is likely that I have PTSD but there is no way to gain a diagnosis as the medical staff aren’t qualified and they do not know where else to direct me. All the publicity regarding speaking out, breaking stigma and not to be ashamed as there is support out there, and yet it appears that only applies to certain mental health issues within this area. For PTSD relating to trauma from non-conflict backgrounds diagnosis and support does not exist. For those seeking support do try but be prepared to be repeatedly failed.

Review titled Not sure what to do
Rated 3 stars out of 5

My GP recently referred me to the local access team. I've suffered from mental health problems for many years, and a few weeks ago I was so depressed that I spoke to my GP about quitting medication/treatment, which if I decided to do would result in my death within 2-3 weeks. I explained to my GP that I didn't think that the access team would agree to see me, because numerous treatments over many years have failed to help me. She explained that when she wrote to them explaining that I was thinking about ending treatment, that would result in me dying, that they would have to see me. The Doncaster access team sometime later called and offered to refer me to Doncaster talking shop, but on Doncaster Talking shops website page they state that they can't see anyone who is a harm to themselves (a suicide risk), or anyone whose had 3 attempts at certain therapies!. Why, when my GP wanted me to see a psychologist, are they sending me to the talking shop?.
