  1. Review titled Good Hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Robert john Hewett - Posted on 20 March 2023

Went in for day surgery, and was impressed with treatment from the word go. The wards were spotless and well organised, and the treatment received from the surgical team was first class. I was introduced to the surgeon and anaesthetist who informed me of what was going to happen. The after care team again were very friendly and professional. I cannot fault anything, and thank them all for everything they did for me.

  2. Review titled Better communication needed

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 April 2023

For the most part the nurses were lovely, genuinely caring and kind; good at their job, however, no one explained anything, no one told us what was/would be happening, no one consulted or involved us and we were left bewildered, scared and confused, not knowing who we could trust. We aren't even sure if we were lied to on several points and that's really an uncomfortable feeling. Where we asked or even sometimes had to insist on being told what was going on, this was greeted with irritation and annoyance and was delivered with a condescending tone and, even sometimes things were said that just didn't add up - like they felt we were stupid and wouldn't know :( We do appreciate A&E staff are busy and do a fantastic job in difficult circumstances but that taken into account - it wouldn't have harmed to have explained what was going on, with what purpose and some expectation as to timescales* - as I say we were left feeling confused. Even though several of the nurses were great, there was also, sadly from the doctor and a few of the nurses, a lot of mis-gendering. We get mistakes happen but even when corrected this was sometimes ignored and was again met with irritation and annoyance, like we did something wrong :( *on one occasion we were told 20 minutes and hours later, when we asked they as good as told us we imagined that :( Another incident involved being told a urine sample was needed, but no one came to follow up and tell us where/how/give a container. Then, at the end we were accused because it hadn't been done - as if was our fault.

  3. Review titled Excellent cardiology care

    by centaurussr69 - Posted on 08 March 2023

As a patient with a congenital heart under the care of Bart hospital, on finding that I was having a constantly rising pulse and breathlessness, I consulted the Nurses on the GUCH team who recommended that I should have an ECG with them if possible but if not by the GP who would relay this back to them if necessary. The GP advised that that I should go to A and E. On checking in I said I thought I might have a cardiac problem. With in 5 minutes I was taken through, met by a doctor and assistant who did an ECG. I was then admitted into A and E.I was seen by the cardiology team who decided to admit me to Medical Acute unit. There I had constant monitor put in place .After one night, I was transferred to Meadvale ward where I remained for I week under the excellent care of the Cardiology team of doctors. The care I received throughout was exemplary!Nothing was too much trouble. Everything was was explained to me, I was kept informed right along the way.I was treated with courtesy and kindness throughout. All the staff, doctors, nurses, assistants catering staff and pharmacy staff gave me reassurance at all times.I was impressed by the cleanliness and attention to detail shown by all in whatever capacity they were working.Thank you East Surrey. It was a pleasurable and reassuring experience being under your care.

  4. Review titled Exemplary care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was referred by my GP to the Surgical Assessment Unit. Although I wasn’t seen for 4 hours the care and advice I was given was excellent. Unfortunately they couldn’t get me into surgery that day but I was promptly booked in the following day. The next day arriving at 7am I was booked in and when the morning staff came In shortly after they were welcoming addressing the patients with a cheery ‘good morning’. The surgery was a little delayed as there was an emergency but I wouldn’t have expected anything less. A minor inconvenience but that’s all it was. If it was a family member of mine that needed emergency surgery I would have wanted them on the table before a minor surgery. All the staff were amazing, caring, professional, hardworking individuals who are a credit to their profession. I sincerely hope that you are rewarded one day financially as ‘we’ the public wouldn’t be without you. Thank you to all for my amazing care!

  5. Review titled Very efficient and kind

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by corrine nolan - Posted on 15 February 2023

on 9th February I attended ESH A & E following a Gp appointment. The service I received was very thorough and also very kind. The Clinical staff treated me with respect and also communicated very well, letting me know when things were taking longer to arrange and also letting me know they had handed my care over to another doctor when they went of shift. I was in A and E 7 hours, it was very busy. But kindness and good communication made this more bearable. Thank you

  6. Review titled Brilliant service

Our 2 year old son was taken by ambulance to East Surrey today after us phoning 111. Every person we dealt with in A&E was extremely patient, kind and kept us fully informed and put as at ease. Thankfully our son is absolutely fine, and we can’t thank all of the staff for how thorough and kind they were. We’re so grateful to have such a great hospital in our local area.

  7. Review titled Amazing A & E and Paediatrics

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We arrived at A & E as my daughter had injured her ankle. Member of staff at booking in was already busy with another patient and no queue but despite this the gentleman on enquiries immediately volunteered his help to book us in. Then sent us straight to Paediatrics where we were very warmly welcomed. A little cheery banter with my daughter which made her laugh by the doctor. Immediately sent for and x-ray where a friendly radiographer saw us after no more than 10 minutes. He then directed us back to paediatrics. We saw the same friendly doctor again within about 10 minutes who confirmed nothing serious but advised to return if not improved after a week. Very kind friendly lady on reception also enquired how she was on our way out. What an amazing team! My daughter and I just wanted to give our gratitude and thanks to everyone we saw today. She was very nervous before coming and you couldn’t have done more to put her at ease or in her treatment. Thank you so much.

  8. Review titled Child assessment unit

by Footiefan - Posted on 09 February 2023

My grandson in A&E all night, brought to CAU around 10:00. My husband and I arrived to swap with my daughter & partner as they’d been up all night. While this swap over was taking place in CAU a staff member arrived at the door, didn't introduce themselves, and rudely said only two were people allowed at the bed. I explained we were swapping over carers and they walked away. Less than 30 seconds later another staff member arrived, again no introduction, no concern to welfare for my grandson, and said exactly the same thing. Again I reiterated we were swapping carers as my daughter had been in A&E all night. I found all this very upsetting, slightly embarrassing and really not necessary, we had no intention of all of us staying. However, another member of staff saved the experience, as they introduced themselves, spoke in an acceptable voice to my grandson and to us and was sympathetic to our concerns. They were a credit to the unit.

  9. Review titled A massive thank you.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I just wanted to say you managed to make my day surgery with you a much better experience than I expected. The whole team from the surgeon, the anaesthetists, the nurses and care staff were extremely professional and they were good at communicating what was happening at each stage of the day. This, thrown in with a dollop of good humour and a lovely cup of tea and biscuits from the chatty smiling nurses and carers after the op made it a pleasurable day. Thanks to all for your wonderful care and nuture.

    by Tracey3189 - Posted on 12 April 2023

I had a ct scan in December. It is now April and I have had no communication at all back with my results . I have phoned in numerous occasions to my consultants secretary but no one answers the phone. I’m very disappointed and was told not to carry out any exercise until my results are back
