Review titled Recovery after stroke

Much improved since receiving physiotherapy treatment: from needing to be fully hoisted to ability to walk using walking frame. Excellent services received from physiotherapists. They are both very caring and dedicated. Many thanks.

Dear horologiumhg66 Thank you for taking the time to write and let us know the impact the service has had on supporting you to get back to walking. I remember coming to see you at home for an assessment on the "snow day" and understanding how different your home set up had to be for you since being discharged from hospital. I am so glad that you have been supported to get back to walking with a frame. The team have commented on your commitment and your wife's support in getting to this point - thank you for taking a hugely active part in your recovery. Kind Regards Rakhee Prema on behalf of the community neurological conditions management team

Review titled Would have expected a little more respect
by Tee123 - Posted on 27 February 2023
I had an appointment at the Edgware Breast screening unit for a routine mammogram. The radiographer was very businesslike and just uncaring. Asked me why I was crying - firstly I had facial cancer surgery over three months, and found the experience very emotional. I suffer from scoliosis and the radiographer pushed and prodded me into the most uncomfortable positions and made the machine so high I needed to stand on my toes. I came out of this unpleasant screening with backache that is totally unbearable and am now still on anti inflammatory drugs. I also will mention that I am 70 years old and would have expected a little more respect.

Review titled Given time and support
by hydraqb44 - Posted on 26 January 2023
I had a stroke 3 and a half months ago. I have been in rehab for 1 month. This is the first time I had a chance to sleep in 2 months. The unit allowed me to move at my own pace. There was no need to speed my development. I am now slower than I once was. I felt a feeling of family within the unit, everybody had time for me and the service and support was really good.

Review titled Helped to walk again
by lionkn58 - Posted on 12 April 2023
I came in to the NRC because I had b12 deficiency and spinal nerve damage. When I arrived I was in a wheelchair and could not walk. I was in a lot of pain all the time. Day by day I pushed my self to do the physio and the physio team also encouraged me to keep trying even though the pain was unbearable when trying to stand up and walk. Slowly I improved with the encouragement and help from the physio team and I was able to get out of wheel chair and use the zimmer frame. After a short while I then became able to walk slowly with a stick and I am improving still with my balance. Coming here has made me able to walk again. Thanks to all the staff that helped me through this journey.

Dear lionkn58 Thank you for taking time to give feedback on your experience at the NRC. I am pleased to read that with physiotherapy, encouragement and your hard work, you made a good recovery and were able to walk. I hope that you are continuing with this recovery at home. If you have any suggestions on improvements we can make, please do let us know. Nadia Jeffries Clinical Lead Rehabilitation Royal Free Neurological Rehabilitation Centre

Review titled Uncaring Blood Test Desk Staff
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 December 2022
My wife had an appointment for a blood test on Monday 19th December 2022. The woman at the blood test desk sent my wife away. I phoned Royal Free blood test appointment line who were very helpful and confirmed my wife's appointment, transferred the call to Edgware. We were asked to come back to Edgware and the woman who had told my wife to go away stated that it was not her job to look at forms ! This is a shocking statement shows that she is in an unsuitable role and lacks training in how to deal with people and the procedures when a patient arrives. Before we left another patient said to my wife she is not a nice person. Why is she in an unsuitable role without training ? If Royal Free can look up the appointment system why can she not be bothered to do the same ?

Review titled The road to recovery after my stroke
by Janexc67 - Posted on 20 March 2023
I arrived at the rehab hospital unable to stand after a stroke and I'm now climbing stairs! I thought I would never walk again but the whole team have been amazing. They have encouraged me so much since my arrival and going to the gym and all the extra activities such as cookery and singing have been fun and helped me to cope with the effects of having a stroke. I also feel a lot stronger physically and mentally and I am gradually getting my independence back. A very big thank you to all the physios, psychologists and occupational therapists doctors nurses and healthcare assistants.
