  2. Review titled Wards and Agency Staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 February 2024

I was admitted to Epsom Hospital. A&e were helpful but the pain I had was getting worse. I had a couple of scans. It turned out I had Ulcerative Colitis. I was put on morphine long lasting and oramorph three times a day. I was taken up to a ward a day or 2 later. Virtually all the staff were agency. Sign off on the morphine could take 30 minutes to 3 hours. 2 nights I had some very unprofessional nurses that only cared about their phones and yanked my arm for a blood pressure test. I told them I had ripped my shoulder but it made difference. I couldn’t take much more. One nurse said not to press the button because they were getting the morphine and I should sit back and relax! One Sister had the right hump about being called for sign off as he had 3 wards to cover. Handovers showed that nurses did not know my case well from what was said. I was to ill to correct them. I was scared and didn’t want my partner to go home as I didn’t feel safe at all. Staff need to acknowledge that if someone is on high pain killers, they are in pain and can’t wait long for the next dose. During handover, at least say hello to the patient, while talking about them. I’m a person with feelings. Take time with patient, listen and ask which arm to use instead of just yanking me about. It would be good if Drs can explain why they are giving certain medicines or stopping some, so I knew what was going on. I wasn’t offered a wash.

  4. Review titled Speedy, efficient, kind service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 December 2023

I had to visit A & E on the afternoon of the 28th December. The waiting time was posted as 5 - 6 hours, but actually I was seen much quicker than that - less than 30 minutes. Although A & E was clearly very busy, all the Staff were patient and kind, clearly explaining everything at each step of my journey through A & E. This included the correct dosage and way to take the medication that I was issued. Having been working Overseas for over 30 years, in my opinion the National Health Service - although under great pressure - is still right up there as one of the best Healthcare systems in the World. I suspect that most of those who complain that it's "3rd World service" or "it's a shambles" etc have never had to experience other Countries Healthcare systems, or they have unreasonable expectations. I am very glad that I live in a Country that has such a great free-at-point-of-use healthcare system.

  5. Review titled Scary to be in hospital but a Fantastic Experience!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Glen Gossington - Posted on 29 October 2023

The staff were amazing! Really caring and kept me informed from start to finish. Really polite and patient. I only spent one day/night in Epsom Hospital then they sorted out my procedure and transport to and from St George’s Hospital. The same Doctor who diagnosed me in Epsom done the procedure in St George’s, it doesn’t get better than that! All staff at Epsom had a great sense of humour and were super helpful and supportive.

  6. Review titled Rude Staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 September 2023

When a loved one is having a procedure you would hope that the staff would be kind and compassionate to those who are their loved ones. Instead a rude receptionist who really needs to have more compassion and the correct etiquette! Let’s hope that they don’t have to go through not knowing how their loved one is! Absolutely disgusting rude and abrupt woman in the Day Care Unit at Epsom hospital on 26th September! Disgraceful.

Twice my son has been admitted to Epsom A&E and each time the reception has dealt really quickly with his illness. They have gone out of there way to make sure he was seen immediately. We have been to other A&E s in the area and treatment has never been as good . Well done Epsom

  9. Review titled Great help from Pharmacy

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Patricia Ecob - Posted on 05 July 2023

There is a manufacturing problem with my medication. GP could not sort out. Could not speak to anyone in the relevant department. Rang the pharmacy and a member of staff went above and beyond to sort out my problem. I am so very grateful.

  10. Review titled Phenomenal care across the whole hospital

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Olivia - Posted on 30 June 2023

My husband who is young and healthy was admitted to A&E last Sunday having had a major stroke out of the blue. I can’t speak highly enough of the care we got from everyone in the NHS. Given the severity of the case we had an ambulance and they reached us in only 15 mins which was a huge relief and the paramedics were fabulous. He was prioritised in A&E and put on the life saving medication he needed in just 2 hours. The staff were kind and caring and always communicated with me and my husband despite being hugely busy. He then spent time on HDU also where the care was wonderful and they really looked out for him. Finally he made it to the stroke unit and the team of nurses, doctors and therapists were all amazing and did everything possible to support his swift recovery. He made it out of hospital last night which really defies the odds of what should be expected and I will be forever grateful to all the wonderful team at Epsom hospital. On top of this I am 8.5 months pregnant so it was very stressful for me but they also always took care of me. The maternity team even fitted me in and hoc to check that the baby and I were okay given the stress of everything happening. Our next trip to Epsom hospital is hopefully going to be on much happier terms with the arrival of our baby in about 2 weeks time! The staff and care at Epsom is nothing short of wonderful and they deserve every credit. It was the hardest week of our lives but they made it easier to cope. And they truly care- for example the A&E doctor and Stroke specialist nurse who treated my husband in A&E took time to visit him later in the week to see how he was doing.
