Review titled well explained.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by A E Wilson - Posted on 10 July 2023
I went to Hexham for a second opinion and after an x_ray was delighted to receive a full explanation of what was required and what would be done to my shoulder which has severe erosive arthrophy. This makes me inclined to have the operation in Hexham rather than Carlisle where I was not given such an explanation. I would be interested to know how long the waiting list is at Hexham since I believe it would be better done there.

Review titled Fantastic

I recently had surgery at the Day Surgery Unit at Hexham. From start to finish my experience was exemplary. This was the NHS at its finest. From my assigned nurse through to my surgeon, everyone involved was fantastic. It was just another day at work for them, but for me it was superb support and care through a difficult and stressful experience. Well done everyone - you are greatly (and gratefully) appreciated.

Review titled Fantastic care for Dupuytren's contracture
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Elizabeth Anne Armitage - Posted on 27 March 2023
Apprehensive does not begin to describe how terrified I was - not of the procedure but of the injections to numb the arm. I barely felt a thing. The anaesthetist was an absolute star getting the nerve block done in such a lovely manner, telling me what he was doing whilst I watched on the screen. I have had worse pain from vaccination! The consultant was really efficient, the surgical procedure taking less than 20 minutes. The nursing team instilled confidence right from the start, making me feel welcome and safe. I was allowed home quickly with a clear idea of what to expect and what to do if I ran into trouble backed up with leaflets explaining everything. I can't praise them all enough - what a wonderful team. Seems strange to describe any operation as pleasant and if anyone out there is opting for a general anaesthetic over a nerve block think again. There are so many advantages and nothing to be afraid of. Thank you for your care and compassion this morning I am so relieved and so grateful. Hope you all get the pay rises you so richly deserve and the NHS will be able to recruit replacements for all the staff that have left in their droves over the past couple of years.

Review titled Disappointing
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Mrs Finch - Posted on 17 January 2023
Having received a letter following an urgent GP referral, detailing an appointment time 9.00 (with 30 mins allowance either way). The appointment time came and went without a call. I contacted the department, getting through on the second attempt, I explained that unfortunately I would not be available to take the call later due to work commitment and was disappointed to it be implied that rearranging the appointment was my fault (as I should have called earlier - which I had but the call was not picked up!). So much for an Urgent Referral!

Review titled Rude and uncaring
Rated 1 star out of 5

I've had an appointment today and the receptionist that greeted me was very rude, speaks disrespectfully and not helpful at all. Arrived to my appointment early and I was told to take a seat. 6 nurses are all gossiping about boyfriends at the desk, 20 minutes later someone came and offered me a cuppa and then was told they are running behind so am I OK with time. Another 40minutes later I go to the desk to ask how much longer as I have to go to work at 5 to be told I'm not sure you'll just have to continue on waiting as they are unsure how behind they are as they aren't sure which patients they are up to! The lack of communication and bedside manner here is disgraceful and I will be traveling to the rvi in future!

My son who is a grown 32 year old in excruciating back and leg pain attended A&E on a Sunday morning he was attended to quite quickly, was then told to put a gown on snd left for 2 hours!! He was in so much pain he couldn’t lie in the bed so attempted to get off the bed and fell to the floor he had been given morphine which made him feel faint .when someone found him on the floor they continued to ask him what he was doing down there and told to get up !!!! He couldn’t move he was crying in pain .then was patronised by some smarmy nurse who passed the comment about how she was able to work while suffering from sciatica .he also suffers with severe rheumatoid arthritis he is clearly not having an episode of sciatica disgusting and unprofessional patronising behaviour from a employee of the NHS to a proud decent 32 year old man who was reduced to tears whilst struggling to put one foot in front of the other . He also had no feeling in his leg .I have myself endured the pain from herniated discs it is excruciating worse than childbirth so having some jumped up member of your so called staff making patronising comments is unprofessional very unacceptable the NHS really is letting people down . If this is how people are treated by this so called caring profession gus help us all

Review titled Happy patient.

My grateful thanks to the staff of ward 3, the orthopaedic team and all those who were involved in my recent total hip replacement operation. I cannot mention individual names but I hope you all know who you are. I was given great care and attention whilst in the hospital. I felt that nothing was too much bother for the staff and was comfortable asking for help when it was needed. What would happen during the procedure was explained carefully to me and anaesthesia options were discussed. On discharge I was given clear instructions on how to use the medication I was taking home with me and reassured that if I was anxious or unsure about anything I could ring for advice. All in all this was a very positive experience for me andI would have no hesitation in recommending this hospital to anyone needing hip surgery in the future. Once again my thanks to each and everyone of you, your care was much appreciated by me
