Review titled Always closed when you need them!!!
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Lewis Gibbs - Posted on 11 July 2024
The service is clearly advertised as being open 08.00-20.00 daily. Arrived at 19.03 today to find that MIU was already closed. This is not the first time this has happened. I won’t bother next time as this simply delays treatment and causes frustration.

A very big thankyou to everyone at Honiton MIU especially the person who examined my extremely painful hand today. Tendonitis diagnosed and a splint supplied.

Review titled Speedy caring service

Took my mother to the Minor Injuries unit with a badly bloodshot and sore eye. She was seen within half an hour by a very caring and reassuring nurse. She examined both of my mums eyes thoroughly and then took the time to explain what was wrong, why it had happened, how to look after the eye and how long recovery was likely to take. She explained everything with great clarity and a sense of humour as well, and gave my mum the reassurance she needed. It was such a good experience, please pass on our thanks to the staff. Another nurse was looking after an elderly gentleman nearby and treating him with great compassion and respect. We were so impressed and feel very lucky to have this community resource available to us.

Review titled Keeps closing without notice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Christopher Harrison - Posted on 05 June 2023
The minor injury unit is supposed to be open until 8pm. It keeps closing hours before that. That's bad enough but perhaps may be 'understanable' due to staffing levels or whatever. But what is inexcusable is that there's no way of finding out before travelling that this has happened. If you phone the hospital there is no message saying that the hospital is closed. So four times now I have travelled 10 miles to the hospital only to find out it's closed early.

Review titled Seen quickly and efficiently
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Andy Smart - Posted on 19 May 2023
Attended Minor Injuries this morning after being involved in a car collision. Told there would be a wait of an hour and seen after an hour. Doctor very helpful and attentive, student also. Could not fault the care given. Examined thoroughly with my mind put at ease. Great care.

Review titled Absolutely wonderful!
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Tom Freeland - Posted on 24 April 2023
Took my son there on 23/04/23 afternoon with a suspected broken arm from rugby. Turns out it was indeed a nasty break. The team were absolutely wonderful! We were seen pretty much immediately, xrayed twice and plastered well within 1.5 hours. Everyone we saw were all were fabulous, caring, efficient, friendly and helpful, and they even managed to make it a lot of fun and made my son smile throughout! I didn't catch anyones's names, but a massive thank you!

Review titled Rude and abrupt
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 23 April 2023
I called the MIU dept. on Sunday to ask if I could have my eyes looked at since although I'd called 111 at 6am and been told I would need to be seen within 6 hours, I'd had no response. During the first call I was given the opening time,12 noon and advised I could be seen there. Having low immunity and still feeling wary, I explained & asked if I could wait somewhere other than the main area - I was told there was nowhere to put me! I also asked if there were many waiting & I was abruptly told that they weren't open yet and she didn't know how many were waiting outside the door. I decided not to go, hoping 111 would call back soon. This didn't happen so I decided to make a brief call to check how many were waiting. A different person answered this time and when I tried to explain my reason for asking, she interrupted, was very abrupt, saying she couldn't help my situation, that they were very busy and before I had chance to say anymore, she put the phone down. I was really shocked at the attitude and in no way did I feel that I'd be comfortable visiting the unit. In the end, because my left eye was getting worse and I'd still not received a call as well as knowing that local pharmacies closed at 4pm, I visited a local optician where I was met with kindness and understanding. Fortunately they were able to give me some eyedrops and advice. Please note that I'd also tried to get eyedrops from several pharmacies but unfortunately none of them had stock. To sum up, I'm really saddened by the attitude of the two people I spoke to in MIU and while I understand there are pressures, there is no need for rudeness and lack of understanding.

Review titled Poor care
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 February 2023
I attended Honiton hospital with a swollen, red and extremely painful arm. It took nearly 2 hours to be seen. No doctor was available so I was seen by a nurse practitioner. She was convinced the arm was not infected - although the evidence pointed fairly obviously to infection. She refused to prescribe any form of anti infection - no antibiotic cream or tablets. 24 hours later, the infection had become severe and I had to attend a different A&E to find a doctor. This nurse should not be seeing cases that should be dealt with by a doctor. I don’t particularly blame her as the ‘hospital’ should be providing a doctor to see patients. I would not recommend wasting your time here.

Review titled My experience at Honiton Hospital
by cyclonefn60 - Posted on 26 January 2023
Went to this hospital a couple of months ago with a work injury, my hand had swollen up massively, was very surprised to be seen so quickly by people who seemed to care about my condition even though they could not figure out the problem, but treatment was provided and I was very grateful, and said so. But had to visit the same place very recently, and the experience with the two nurses there this time was very different, first one wanted to call me by my first name and I said I wanted to be called by my last name, they did not seem too happy with this, and because of their attitude I asked them if they would prefer me to leave. They called in another nurse with a dark uniform on, and proceeded to say some of what was said, I asked them to repeat all that had been said instead of just the bits that seemed to have suited them. I tried to explain to the person with the dark uniform on that I have been in a lot of pain day and night with my feet, and am still in a lot of pain, and that I had already had a bad experience with the surgery next door, but these people just seemed to want to talk over you just to shut you up, so I was feeling rather disgusted with their attitude and said I was leaving. Now I have to try and go to work each day with feet that I have trouble walking on and in constant pain, I'm over 60 years of age and trying my best and this is the sort of treatment we have to put up with? It's bad enough waiting weeks upon weeks for a doctor's appointment, only to find out on arrival that you will only get to see a nurse at best. I'm sorry, but I have lost all faith in the medical proffession around this way, and it looks like I will have to put up with my problem for the foreseeable future, but I will be looking into if there is a way to stop any more national health contributions coming out of my wages in the future, I don't like to pay for what I do not get.
