  1. Review titled Very unpleasant receptionist

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 September 2023

I understand Ilkeston is no longer a walk in service but this has not been communicated to everyone. I was made to feel very stupid by the incredibly rude receptionist who made me feel it was my fault for not knowing. I remained polite but there is never any excuse for such unpleasantness.

Hello, We are really sorry to read of your poor experience when attending Ilkeston Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) recently. The UTC has unfortunately had to very quickly make some temporary changes to the way their service is delivered at Ilkeston due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control. We acknowledge that communication with patients could have been better and we are genuinely sorry that this was your experience. We would of course expect staff on duty to take the time to clarify the current arrangements when asked and we apologise that this didn’t happen when you presented at the UTC. I would like to reassure you that there are now signs informing patients of the temporary change, I am sorry if these were not displayed when you attended. I hope that this reassures you that we have taken your concerns seriously, however if you would like to discuss this further please contact the Patient Experience Team on 01773 525119 or email DCHST.PatientExperienceTeam@nhs.net. Thank you

  2. Review titled First class

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Walked into the Urgent Treatment Centre just after 1 o’clock on Wednesday with a badly dislocated finger. I was seen within 10 to 15 minutes. By 3 o’clock I was seen, had two X-rays got finger sorted and got a referral appointment at Royal Derby Hand clinic and was out. This was brilliant speed. Any other hospital, I would still have been in the waiting queue after 4 hours - all the time in some pain. The staff were informative, humorous, talked to me on an adult level and explained everything I needed to know. One of the best NHS experiences I have had. Thank you so much - I really do appreciate the effort you make.

  3. Review titled Awful service

Rated 1 star out of 5

We have used Ilkeston hospital a number of times and always been really impressed however today we received awful service. The receptionist was unbelievably rude to everyone who entered, including refusing to let elderly people have a seat because they were not the patient even though there were lots of free chairs. My mum has injured her wrist and as advised by 111 we attended the urgent treatment centre, the nurse told her the way she injured it won’t have been enough to have caused a break so she refused to x ray it. It has been this bad for a week now, and we cannot get into the GP but she has told us if we would like an x ray we should go to the GP to be referred for one, this seems like such a waste of NHS time when we were already there and had waited 2 hours. My mum was really upset at how she was as spoken to by the nurse, who told her she should have just gone to the pharmacy instead. The whole experience is something we do not want to go through again so we will be avoiding.

Hello, Thank you for your feedback regarding Ilkeston Hospital UTC. I am pleased to read that you have in the past been impressed with the service. However, I am sorry to read that on this occasion you found the Receptionist to be rude and that the Nurse had upset your mum by the way they had spoken to her. This is not our usual standard of care and your comments have been forwarded on to the Service Manager. If you wish for your concern to be looked into further, please contact the Patient Experience Team on 01773 525119 or email DCHST.PatientExperienceTeam@nhs.net. Thank you

  4. Review titled Absolute waste of time

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Emma Bellingham - Posted on 17 April 2023

I attended the urgent care centre on Saturday following a call to 111. I had been suffering with my symptoms for 4 days at this point and was under the impression that the point of the urgent care centre being open at weekends was to relive some of the strain on the NHS from people waiting for Monday doctors appointments. I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment and was seen on time. The person I saw did not ask me about my symptoms, he took my blood pressure and temperature and looked at my throat briefly. He spent the whole appointment talking about himself, telling me he had a ‘dark sense of humour’ and a story of how he had offended a patients relative in the past. After regaling me with stories and thoughts on certain topics (not what you want to hear when you are feeling really unwell) he eventually told me that antibiotics won’t work because what I have is viral. I asked him about my swollen glands (that he hadn’t examined) and he then decided to examine my neck, he said ‘yes, they are a bit swollen but if you start feeling unwell, come back’. My neck is visibly swollen and my glands are extremely swollen, I told him I was feeling very unwell and had been for the last four days with a fever, headaches, aches and pains on my joints and a terrible throat and these symptoms have been getting worse over the 4 days I’ve had them. He said, just take paracetamol. This is fine but I do not feel I was examined properly or that he even asked me my symptoms. I have now been suffering for the rest of the weekend and will be calling my GP this morning for an appointment. He should have also seen from my records that I don’t attend the doctors very often and would therefore only be there if I was I was really suffering. In short, I dragged myself out of bed on Saturday morning after hardly sleeping the night before due the symptoms I have, drove to ilkeston and wasted my time as I was not examined properly and like I expected my symptoms have not improved over the weekend. Don’t waste your time going, just wait for the doctors to open in the week.

  5. Review titled Friendly and efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 April 2023

Came in this morning with a hand injury (after waiting 4 hours in a different A&E the night before) lovely chap behind the desk, I was seen within 15mins of checking in. The doctor that saw my was brilliant, very funny too! 1.5hrs from walking in to walking out all strapped up, can’t complain at all. Slight hiccup at X-ray (computer issues not staff) but other than that I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you!

Thank you to all the staff at the urgent care centre at Ilkeston. We were seen within 10 minutes of arriving. All the staff were polite and friendly. The nurse we saw was through and explained clearly why we needed to go to the emergency department. Great service thank you.

  7. Review titled Well Impressed

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Derek Barton - Posted on 25 March 2023

Just walked in. No appointment or anything. I was greeted with respect and dignity. I only had to wait just over an hour to be seen and treated. How impressive is that? Try getting that sort of service from your GP. If I wore a hat I’d take it off to all who work there. You can say what you like but the NHS is the best in the world. You have my thanks.

  9. Review titled Lovely staff, can't praise enough

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Chrissie Rowell - Posted on 30 January 2023

I had foot surgery here under local anaesthetic, this was a cause of great stress to me and I got tearful a lot - but the staff were so lovely, they were kind and supportive and made me laugh. The clinic itself was very efficient also, I was in and out quickly. Please pass on my thanks to the podiatry team, nurses and anaesthetist. I appreciate them being supportive of someone who is very feeble and squeamish about medical procedures!

  10. Review titled partial lovely staff

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 January 2023

i visited here as a 3rd trimester pregnant lady seeking help and care. what i got from the practitioner was not this. She spoke to me like i was a fool and should have stayed at home and was arguing with me. I have visited adult and child A&E recently who are under extreme pressure, super busy & long wait times.. and i have always had a great experience with this and polite nurses and doctors regardless of their pressure. I come to ilkeston hospital not 1 person in the waiting room, completely quiet and under no pressure and i’m spoken to and treat like this.. not acceptable at all.
