Review titled Reception team indifferent to patient care
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Timothy Toomey - Posted on 20 April 2024
The Ambulatory Assessment Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital is an excellent department providing a first class service, but fronted and badly represented by an indifferent reception team. Yesterday my experience was lacking but today Saturday 20 April 2024 it was upsetting. Visitors to the unit can expect more care from fellow patients than the reception staff on duty in the department who will put patient welfare and wellbeing secondary to the jobsworth manner in which they conduct themselves and respond to patients. It is quite extraordinary that the departmental management have failed to recognise the extent to which their colleagues work is let down by a poor front of house. Not to be recommended in an otherwise first class hospital, once past reception patients can trust they will be in excellent hands.

After being transferred by ambulance to the A&E for a heart problem, I had to wait. However this is A&E and is expected. The nursing staff and emergency doctor were great but special praise to the lady cardiologist who was extremely caring and arranged for an appointment for an echocardiogram. You all were brilliant.

Review titled Caring, kind and cautious
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Rachael - Posted on 01 May 2024
I recently had a hospital stay in the Gyno department, almost the same time as I did the previous year and both times looked after by the same nurse. Despite it being a rather distressing medical emergency, the nurses , doctors, surgical staff were all so wonderful and warm! My nurse B was so kind and gentle and really reassuring. Top care from everyone thank you!

Review titled Excellent care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Recently had vascular surgery and had the most excellent care from everyone involved at the John Radcliffe. First the triage team, then the excellent surgical team and the staff on Ward 6a for the fantastic aftercare. Everyone explained so clearly everything that would be happening it truly is a place of excellence. Thank you so much to you all.

Attended A&E early this morning & just wanted to thank everyone for their great care. Explained everything clearly, were very kind whilst remaining professional. Two cups of tea & biscuits also helped! Thank you NHS 💙

Review titled Such good care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Joanna B - Posted on 19 April 2024
I was admitted to A and E after fainting in a shop. The ambulance staff were excellent. The a and e staff were also excellent - efficient, kind, empathetic. The NHS is amazing. Such a shame it has been so underfunded for so long. I am so grateful to you JR.

Review titled Terrible Communication
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 April 2024
I have had a telephone consultation scheduled twice now with the first time only receiving a call over an hour after my appointment time which I then couldn't answer due to driving and I'm still waiting after over 90mins beyond the scheduled second appointment. This is despite being told to be available for just 30 minutes either side of the appointment. Furthermore, it is impossible to then speak to anybody about the fact that you are still waiting for a call. The communication from the department is non existant / terrible.

Review titled Excellent care, responsiveness and professionalism
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jake - Posted on 27 March 2024
After being rushed to the JR for emergency surgery due to a post operative haemorrhage the whole team were fantastic in the resuscitation department alongside the ENT doctors. The level of care was phenomenal and their responsiveness to get me into surgery was very impressive. Overall, could not speak more highly about the professionalism of every doctor and nurse who looked after me.

Review titled Phenomenal level of professional care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Timmy Toomey - Posted on 24 February 2024
I had a fantastic Bioscopy at the JR hospital today. The staff in the department were each first class in their professionalism and tireless in the level of care and service provision given. I could not recommend the department enough. Thank you NHS.

My daughter was brought in by ambulance with a suspected stroke. Waiting in patient assessment for 7 hours. Luckily we had the company of two police officers with their very vocal drunk in handcuffs. Still waiting!
