Review titled Corby Midwives Team - So many things wrong
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Scott - Posted on 10 April 2024
My wife and I have lost our patience with KGH’s Corby Midwife’s Team. Either through deliberate malice or extreme disorganisation, this team did not accommodate my wife’s request to give birth at Peterborough City Hospital. After repeated attempts to convince my wife to reconsider her choice to change birth locations from KGH, and after Peterborough City hospital helped us to make the change, the Corby Team continuously made snide comments at each of our appointments about Peterborough City hospital. In December, this Corby Midwife team lost my wife’s fit-to-fly letter blaming the postman. I needed to drive back to the clinic myself to retrieve the letter which appeared to have never been sent out. After my son’s birth, a Corby team midwife conducted a day 2 visit at our house. She took all of our Peterborough City Hospital discharge paperwork home with her “to put in her computer” including important dosage information which my wife needed to ensure she was taking the proper medication following a Cesarian section. The midwife returned a couple days later without the hospital discharge paperwork citing her failure to wake up on time and forgetting our paperwork “at home”. This is one of the three/four midwives from Corby’s Midwife team to go out of her way in conversation to tell us that “Kettering is better” than Peterborough. She also conducted my son’s heal prick test two weeks ago. We still have not received these results in the post leading us to wonder if this test is also “at home” with the midwife along with all of our discharge paperwork. We’ve tried to retrieve this paperwork through conversations during our day 10 midwife visit and through a phone call to the Corby Team’s lead midwife on 9 April who was unhelpful and seemed generally uninterested in any conversation with me. She assured me that she would follow up with her team to ensure our important discharge paperwork would be posted to us. We have yet to receive the fit-to-fly letter, the heel prick test results, or our hospital discharge paperwork in the post from Corby’s midwife team. I don’t have much confidence that any of these items were ever posted. I am thrilled with my wife’s decision to give birth at Peterborough City Hospital given these experiences and based upon recent stories I’ve been told about KGH. The amount of negative comments made about Peterborough City Hospital by KGH’s Corby midwives team is now laughable, especially given our experiences with both team’s. For the record, Peterborough’s midwives haven’t made a single unbecoming comment toward KGH. My wife and I are considering our future options because we will do just about everything in our power to avoid interactions with this Corby Team or KGH.

Firstly admitted to A&E then on to Harrowden C for a week, the kindness and care from all staff was exemplary. I was also impressed with the quality and choice of the food served.

Why does it take so long to complete the discharge process. My husband was told at 9.30am this morning he could come home. At 17.30 he is still on the ward waiting.

Review titled Surgical day case unit. Fantastic care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kaitlin - Posted on 08 March 2024
I was booked I for a steroid injection on Sdcu I was so anxious as I didn’t know what to expect. I was unable to have anyone with me which made me feel worse. Got there at 12:30 and was told I was first on the list. I was then told the Spinal surgeon was running late which made me feel very on edge. Staff on the unit answered all my questions and made me feel better by 15:40 one of the lovely scrub nurses came to check my forms and take me to theatre, she’s talked to me the whole way settling my nerves. We got into the theatre room and it was all very daunting all the equipment and theatre team around. They then started to talk to me and check all my details whilst making sure my dignity was protected and explained everything that was happening to me which made me less anxious. My Spinal surgeon explained what he was going to do and checked on me thought out the procedure to make sure I was ok. He is the first spinal surgeon who has took my pain seriously and has done what he can to help me and I will forever be grateful for him. Theatre team would talk to me to take my mind of how daunting it all way. I can’t thank the whole team enough they were all fantastic.

Review titled Super efficient
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by samantha walker - Posted on 25 March 2024
My husband flew back from holiday early and was so unwell. We arrived at A and E at 11.30pm to a full waiting room. He was triaged within 2 minutes of arrival. The nurse was excellent and very calm. Within 15 minutes he had a cannula, bloods, obs and put on oxygen and moved to majors. This nurse was so calm and unflustered and carried on sorting everything out so quick and efficiently. I was so grateful. The care then continued to be excellent throughout the night with IV antibiotics, Dr visits, bloods, monitoring. You could not pay enough for this sort of service. When people truly are in a dire medical situation A and E really ups its game

Review titled Hip replacement surgery
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ken Bonser - Posted on 31 March 2024
I was recently admitted for replacement hip surgery. The whole process from being placed on "a list" to the actual surgery was first class. Pre- appointments were managed efficiently and the admittance procedure was seemless. The standard of care, whilst in hospital from all the staff was friendly, respectful and I was constantly reassured. kgh does not always get the best press but this would quickly improve if these standards could be replicated accross the hospital. I am surprised that kgh does not follow up, with pateince, to review its services as a matter of course rather then me having to search for the opportunity? Once again thank you, the service would not have been better if I had gone private.

Review titled Absolutely brilliant service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by June - Posted on 02 February 2024
Had appointment on 1st February at the Breast Clinic for every woman's biggest fear. How lucky we are to have this wonderful service whereby you are seen by a professional within 2 weeks of referral plus mammogram, ultrasound and results within two hours of attending. Such caring, sympathetic and dedicated staff who understand exactly how anxious their patient feels. Bless you all for the kindness shown by all from the moment I walked through the door.
