Review titled Great response to a difficult case
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Gemma Rogers - Posted on 17 February 2025
I am a family member of a special needs individual who was admitted to A&E on Saturday. The response from the team in having to make decisions in how to support my family member was excellent. He was dealt with with respect and kindness and we would like to extend our gratitude to the team on shift.

Review titled Upmost care and compassion
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jason Wells - Posted on 17 February 2025
I had to take my autistic brother to A&E over the weekend as he had become quite sick and was in a lot of pain. The level of service we received from all the staff there was immense, showed the NHS at it's greatest and I cannot thank everyone enough. As well as being autistic my brother, who is almost 50, also has ADHD and high levels of anxiety. He is unable to give clear responses that would help a diagnosis and is very fearful of anything that might cause him pain. Needles are a particular issue. So clearly a challenge when it comes to treating him. From the moment we arrived we were dealt with in a patient and understanding way - from the receptionist who sorted us a private, quiet space to sit; to the triage nurse who quickly moved us into a cubicle in majors; and the nurses and doctors who worked on diagnosing and treating him. Most importantly we were listened to and dealt with in an individual way, which might sound obvious but is so often overlooked. They recognised and adapted to the fact standard procedures might not work for my brother. Without that it would have been a significantly more difficult experience. The doctors explored every avenue of treating my brother's needs in as compassionate way as possible and although he eventually had to be restrained to take bloods it was clear by then that was the only way of achieving it. And the aftercare from what was a pretty traumatic moment was welcome and impressive. Thankfully we now have a diagnosis for my brother and he is on the mend. I am hugely appreciative of how all the staff worked with and for my brother. Thank you once again.

I would like to thank all the staff at Kingston AE on the 17/2/25. The reception staff were superb ensuring we had a quiet space. I was supporting some with Autism ADHD and learning difficulties alongside a pathological fear of needles . I would like to thank the first Doctor who took the time to read his notes , listen to the person I was supporting myself and his brother. Not rushing us. This led to the fabulous support he had to ensure his stay was as comfortable as it could be. All the staff that supported him were kind, patient and listened to ensure he was given the correct support to ensure X-rays and blood were taken. Not an easy task on either count. At all times he was given a private space to help keep him calm. The hospital was very busy so the staff were under a huge amount of pressure. At no time were we made to feel rushed with our concerns or questions. A huge thank you to all the staff in the AE that evening all the way through to the following morning.

Review titled Excellent consultation, very patient and empathetic
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 January 2025
I attended a breast cancer surgical pla. Img consultation with my mother in law. The surgeons and nurse specialist were extremely generous with their time (we had a lot of questions) and they were very clear in their explanation. They were kind and empathetic in their responses. All around it made us feel a lot better about the future

Review titled Our incredible A&E ...
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Diana - Posted on 20 November 2024
Had to go to Kingston A&E today after a private hospital procedure on my sinuses started bleeding and my blood pressure dropped. I felt really unwell but also very guilty to be using NHS services having gone private for the operation. I'm so grateful that I was seen very quicky, checked out thoroughly and treated with kindness by everyone. I noticed the other patients who were waiting were also treated quicky and with care even though there is a sign up saying the hospital is under extreme pressure today. Thank you, I hope someone passes this feedback on and if you're reading this as a patient, please think about donating to the Kingston Hospital Charity if you can.

Review titled No options for sedation for Prostate Biopsy
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by David Boost - Posted on 13 December 2024
I was recently referred for a prostate biopsy following an MRI scan and raised PSA levels. The time taken from the initial blood results to MRI and subsequent biopsy procedure was approximately 3 weeks. This time frame was outstanding and probably quicker than the private sector and the NHS should be congratulated on these timescales. The biopsy procedure was booked within 24 hours as there had been a cancellation. At no point was I offered sedation or a general anaesthetic. I was told I would be having gas and air. The procedure itself was incredibly uncomfortable and painful. It was the worst medical procedure I had ever experienced (I am 63) to the extent that I was swearing out loud in pain. I counted approx 10-12 separate prostate biopsies taken by a young junior doctor overseen by a consultant in the room. Two nurses held my shoulders and were trying to reassure and comfort me. Normally I have quite a high pain tolerance but I found this procedure brutal and intolerable. At one point the consultant asked if I wanted to stop but I felt it was too late and just wanted the whole thing over. My point is that sedation / general anaesthetic should be offered for this procedure. Gas and air did not even touch the sides for me. It had no effect as I was in such a heightened state of anxiety. I was also not given any reassurances or updates by the junior doctor performing the procedure which would have been massively helpful. At one point he appeared to be struggling and handed over to the consultant who stepped in to help. I have also just returned from a colonoscopy procedure at Kingston Hospital where sedation was offered which I readily agreed to. As a result the colonoscopy procedure was pain free and the whole Colo/Rectal team and consultant offered an excellent 5 star service.

Review titled Great doctor at SDEC
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 19 November 2024
November 16, 2024 I was admitted to SDEC for some urgent treatment. There was a brilliant and super professional doctor there. She did what she had to, she did what I needed for my other oncologist team. She found time to keep reassuring me when I was taking very long. She did it for all ther patients there even though it was a weekend and there were so many patients in the department. Well done doctor H!

Review titled Superb care and commitment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Roger Iain Baxter - Posted on 29 October 2024
Just completed a cardioversion, which went without a hitch. Everything happened when it should and how it should. Everyone was friendly and warm and committed to giving excellent care. Even the little details were there, like hot chocolate and biscuits afterwards, an actually warm rug when I was feeling cold. Everythig was done to be informative and transparent in explaining what was going to be done and what was done - just as one could have wanted and hoped would be the case.

Review titled Fantastic experience today
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kim Jones - Posted on 25 October 2024
Even though A&E is absolutely full today it has been a really great experience. As soon as I was triaged I was sent to the next waiting room where a lovely lady with a trolley was serving tea and the security personnel were directing people who needed directions, giving reassurance and generally keeping an eye out for anyone who needed additional al support. The nurse who took blood and my urine sample was cheerful and efficient so put me at ease, the teamwork was evident throughout where doctors were picking up tasks too to ease the jams. The doctor who saw me next was brilliantly thorough and answered all my question as well as tended to the multiple causes of why I was in A&E today
