  2. Review titled So impressed

Rated 5 stars out of 5

We attended the Luton and Dunstable today as my son had planned surgery. We were so impressed with every element of the visit. It was a clean, calm environment, really well laid out and organised. Every member of staff was friendly, professional and considerate. Thank you for making a stressful event far less stressful for a very anxious child.

  3. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I recently had to admit my 93 year old father in the middle of the night for a urinary problem. Starting from the ambulance crew to the accident and emergency professionals on duty ( from health care assistant to the nurses and medical staff were so prompt to help us that increased my respect for NHS even more. My father was promptly transferred to the emergency surgical unit where he was attended by the urology registrar immediately and received effective treatment. The sister in charge and the health care assistant attending to my father were diligent, approachable and professional . In the morning, despite being very busy the urology team did the definitive treatment for him in the one stop ward . My father came home within 24 hours of admission and was so relieved. I am very grateful to all the staff for extra ordinary care .

  4. Review titled Terrible

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 October 2024

My daughter is currently in 1 of your wards, I wish I could get her transferred. I have never seen such poor levels of care at any hospital anywhere, as at the L&D. She asks for help, only to be told that they are on their rounds, doing handover, or anything other than care for a patient, I have been on the phone, listening, at the time. She was left for over 90 minutes, for pain relief, which was supposed to be given every 2 hrs. She asked for help with her storma, the contents need measuring for output, and was left sitting in the contents, when it leaked over her and her bed. The level of care she is receiving is awful. If they are unable to do the job they are paid for, please transfer her. She has phoned me, in tears, so many times, it’s so heartbreaking to listen to her. I have tried phoning the ward, and waited nearly 50 minutes, without an answer. I even called whilst standing in front of the desk, listening to the phone ringing, and no one would answer it. I’ve now learnt to call the phone at the nurses station, it gets answered. I don’t want special treatment for my daughter, just basic care, and some communication too would be nice, not just turning the call button off, and the door shutting. That said, there are some great members of staff there too,

Thank you to the A&E, and SDEC staff. I was seen on Sunday morning, triaged quickly and then moved to SDEC where they were patient and gave me all the necessary tests. The doctors and nurses were all very nice and I was out of there before lunch, with answers! Thank you :)

  10. Review titled Unnecessary long wait times and uncaring staff

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 July 2024

Absolutely shocked at how appalling A&E at L&D was on Friday 5 July. My mum who is 80 recently left L&D hospital after staying for a week and was advised by her GP to go back to hospital as an emergency. We decided to drive rather than wait for an ambulance. We arrived at 3pm and she did not get a bed until 11pm. At all times we were polite but the initial nurse at booking in and the triage nurse in A&E were completely unfriendly to the point of being hostile. We were treated as a problem rather than needing care. My mum was an NHS nurse for 50 years and knows holistic care very well. A simple act of kindness can help the condition of a worried patient. She could barely walk and was told to walk herself down long corridors and then walk to a different area to get bloods done without any offer of help from the triage nurse. We waited for nearly an hour to get bloods done but there didn't seem to be any reason for the wait, the bloods area was empty and staff sitting around. After bloods we were then told to go an wait for a doctor but they didn't tell us where to wait, they just waved their hand and told to us go in a approximate direction. There was no shortage of staff working, staff even had time to enjoy a box of chocolates and chat at the desk of the head nurse. Back in A&E patients were very unwell, one person violently throwing up into a plastic bag and not a single member of staff came to assist in any way. At all times the attitude of staff was "I don't want to know because if I do I have to do something". I don't include ambulance or consultants in this, they were always polite and friendly when we asked for help, the attitude issues seemed to be the nurses. There was one lady nurse, possibly south african, who was very helpful when we asked her for some information, so we were thankful for that. I have already looked up the details of alternative A&E and will try the Lister next time! My mum gave her life to the NHS and its so sad to see how the NHS treats her and what it has become!
