Review titled Amazing care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Azra - Posted on 03 November 2024
We went to New Cross after Russells Hall Hospital refused to treat my sick brother with underlying health conditions told him to go home and eat. From the time we booked in to ED who gave him a sick bowl to the triage nurse who gave him pain relief to make him comfortable, to the team at SDEC who sorted out treatment and to ward B7 administering the various medications to bring him back to normality the care was exceptional. At each stage they listened to what we had to say. They were all very caring and understanding they knew he had to be treated. We didn't have to wait long at all. What was most important was that we were listened to at each stage. To the amazing team at B7 who has got him back to normal eating and drinking. They even made sure I was comfortable and I wasn't the patient. Excellent patient care and thank you to everyone for looking after us.

Review titled Amazing nurses and Doctors
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Kirk Butler - Posted on 15 November 2024
Our daughter was admitted to ward A21 PAU in the HDU for 7 days. In what were very worrying times for us. The team on the ward from the cleaners to the consultants were amazing. Each of them were very caring, calming and gave us much reassurance throughout our time in the HDU. Also a special mention to the 3 student nurses who were also great throughout the week and all 3 will go on to be great nurses. An amazing team who give great care in what must be an extremely tough environment to be giving such great care in. Thank you all for your support and care of our daughter Holly.

Review titled Fantastic parking attendant
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Mandie - Posted on 01 October 2024
Parked at maternity today. I am disabled badge holder. It was pouring rain, the parking attendant came over to the pay station to help everyone. He assisted me in exiting the car park. He is a real credit to your hospital.

Review titled Terrible aftercare
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 07 October 2024
Following vascular surgery on a Saturday my father went on to have a significant bleed overnight, and was told the following morning by the Appleby suite (where he had the surgery) that it was nothing to do with them and to seek help from A and E. Only then to be told it wasn't A and E's responsibility and that upon discharge a district nurse should have been scheduled by the Appleby suite which was not done. A and E sought information from a neighbouring hospital, which they disregarded, resulting in my father having a further significant bleed the following night. When contacting the Appleby suite again (now Monday which is clinic hour) only to be told they still couldn't/wouldn't help him. Very dissatisfied with the lack of follow up care. Incredibly poor practise to perform surgery on a day that doesn't support follow up care. A complete break down of communication between departments and education updates/training should be fully orchestrated for registrars in A and E as they have clearly not read/followed the hospitals policy and procedures.

Review titled I didn't understand A&E triage
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Iris Caveney - Posted on 09 October 2024
A&E triaged me about 20 mins after arrival and sent me to an area to wait , then an hour later I was triaged again and moved on again then after 4 hours finally saw a doctor. Doctor was excellent and very thorough and met my needs and expectations. I must say though as I am a recent wheelchair user I noticed some issues. In A&E when they called names out, they did this from behind a wall around the corner, as I wear hearing aids and I'm hard of hearing I found this impossible to hear my name being called as did other people too. That needs addressing because people missed their name call and lost their place in the queue due to only hearing a muffled shout from afar. Then as a wheelchair user I needed to go to toilet. I went to disabled toilet only to find a very heavy door I had to push open to get Insude a long corridor leading to the toilet. I needed help with the door (no use for wheelchair users) then when a nurse triaged me then asked me to follow her then walked off, I tried to wheel myself to keep up but turning the corner I lost sight of her and was left lost not knowing where I needed to wait plus when the nurse talked to me they had their back to me, again as hard of hearing person this is no use to me talking to the back of their head so was left wondering what they had said because they had walked off so fast and left me. Not very inclusive at all. I felt very awkward and confused not knowing where I needed to wait to be seen. I ended having to ask a member of staff where I needed to be. The doctor was very pleasant and approachable and understood and sympathised with my needs . I was examined and giving adequate medication to see me through. The staff are under incredible strain and I'm not criticising anyone, it's just a couple things to be aware of regarding hard if hearing people or wheelchair users. Hard of hearing people need you to talk to our face, not with your back to us and definitely not through a door or around a corner where we can't see you. Wheelchair users might need you to slow down a bit when showing us where we need to go. I do appreciate everyone who works at the hospital though and know it must be very difficult to juggle jobs.

Review titled Poor service rude receptionist
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Julie - Posted on 04 September 2024
Having been urgently referred by my g.p the receptionists response was "there are no priorities you will have to wait". 4 hours later blood pressure taken, further 4 hours wait still not seen. Had to walk out. One of the worst services I have ever encountered.
