Review titled Inadequate facility
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Steve whitmill - Posted on 06 November 2024
I attended A&E twice this week, with AF, following my GP request. Both times were a terrible experience, and I was shocked at the sheer inadequacy if the facility and service. The first time, I waited 2 hours is the hot, stuffy portakabin, and left, as there appeared to be no end in site to the ever increasing number I'd patients. All the seats were taken, and very sick people were in pain. There were only two staff at reception, to process these arrivals, and only two nurses to take obs. Throughout to the main A&E waiting area was glaciallycslow slow. I noticed than main area was completely full of patients waiting also. I was shocked at the waiting times, the conditions patients waited in and the lack of staff. This scene and facility might be found in a third world country, and is wholly inadequate for a growing town like Northampton. It is clear that a severe and substantial lack of investment in infrastructure and staff is to blame. It's outrageous. I returned to A&E the following day, after a consultation with a nurse practitioner (at my GP surgery). Once again, the portakabin was over capacity, with people standing and some very sick people having to wait very long times. I reported to the desk and told them that the surgery had spoken to Sdec and, that, once registered at A&E, I would be moved on. However, A&E informed me that 'is not howvitvworks' and that I should wait with everyone else to be processed. I overheard the A&E staff repeat this at least 3 times to other patients. There clearly is a communication problem between surgeries and NGH. It needs sorting and quickly. So I had to wait until seen by obs and treaming, for several hours before being shown the direction to SDEC. There, I spent another 4 hours waiting for assessment. I am making a formal complaint about the inadequacy of NGH management to provide an A&E service that is fit for purpose. Meets the needs of patients in a humane way, and does not provide adequate infrastructure or staff numbers to carry our the function. It was an appalling experience. I also found it incredulous that GP surgery staff and NGH appear be carrying out referrals that NGH A&E say shouldn't happen and invalidate those requests. I am totally full of praise foe All the staff at NGH. They appeared to be working under enormous pressure, we're polite and professional. That hay, and patients and the wider population of the area, have to put up with inadequate infrastucture and facilities, is a disgrace. NGH management should sort this out, invest more in facilities and staff and sort out the communication problem between surgeries and NGH. Similarly my ratingbifvWFvsurgery is very high and the staff are wonderful.

Mum in a& e for 2 dys should have been sent home sent to ward instead. Took her back at 9.30 pm in cold and rain. Nobody answers phone to update on care. Second time in 12 months I actually slept in the corridor with her in March and I am over 70. I did leave a better review but it said I couldn’t use website…. I didn’t !

Review titled Demeaning Consultant
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 October 2024
I went to the Forrest centre as I was referred by my GP due to a small lump in my breast. I was naturally very nervous about this but have always been of the understanding it's better to get it checked than feel like you can't. So I went to the appointment and the consultant was in the room for no longer than 2 minutes, asked why I was there, I told him I had a lump in my breast, he examined me and said 'lump is a stretch of your imagination'. He told me it was just tissue and nothing like a lump. This made me feel so small and like I could no longer go back if I felt I had some concern. He didn't ask any previous history (of which about 80% of my maternal history includes breast cancer so I was understandably nervous.) he didn't reassure me that I did the right thing coming in, he made me feel like I was wasting his time and he then swiftly left the room and I was told I could leave. I didn't get any reassurance and was left feeling like I had made it all up and that he didn't believe my concerns and didn't give me chance to talk and if I had spoken I don't feel like he would have listened to me. I feel in this day and age that women shouldnt be told by doctors or consultants that they're hysterical and imagining things, I never want another young woman to go through an appointment like that and for them to not trust their guts and end up with something that could have been avoided if someone had listened to them.

Review titled C-section

wow! what a great experience we had at northampton hospital. you always hear the bad stories but ours couldn’t have been any different. massive thank you to benjy and all the staff on rw ward. we received great care from the start to finish of our stay. benjy and his team were absolutely brilliant thought our c-section and made sure we knew what was happening throughout also getting the chance to meet everyone before hand was lovely and made you feel a little bit more at ease. the staff on rw were amazing, I’d say at least every couple of hours someone was coming to check on you and baby. So thank you. however the work conditions they have to work in are awful blinds falling down, equipment not working or broken it makes your stay and their job just a little harder but the care they give is brilliant considering the amount of pressure they are put under.

Review titled Great care even though I didn’t want to be there!

After a trip and fall on the market square (07.09.2024) I was reluctantly taken to hospital by ambulance. The paramedics were attentive and understanding. The nurses were on the ball as soon as I arrived. The doctors were friendly and helpful. The X-ray lady was lovely and so was the cat scan gentleman.Despite how hard they work, they still had a sense of humour when I made some sarcastic comments, which I do when suffering with anxiety because of my needle phobia! These guys are simply the best! A big shout out to the porters as well!

I had a truly remarkable experience at Northampton Hospital. The service was absolutely stunning, and the staff were incredibly helpful and professional throughout. They took excellent care of my mum, ensuring she was comfortable and well-looked after. The team went above and beyond to diagnose the issue, doing everything necessary to find out what was wrong. I’m deeply grateful for their compassion, efficiency, and expertise. Highly recommend this hospital!

Review titled Lack of Care
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Josh - Posted on 09 July 2024
My wife and I came for an pre op appointment, we were told that she needed to have her waters broken that night and then they moved her from ward to ward and not actually seeing her or doing as they had said for days, this meant my wife was left in extreme discomfort for an unnecessary length of time (days) before her waters went themselves. During the transitions from ward to ward (which was asked if we would by the staff) the staff said they would help move our stuff over, they had lost a few items and one of them was expensive and of high sentimental value which has devastated my wife. We were left feeling like an inconvenience and never a priority, uncared for and not listened to. It has made what should have been a beautiful experience a terrible one. On top of that on our last day after having paid excessive parking fees we were told there was away to have only paid £10 so paid 6x that amount for no reason. The one saving grace was the fact we had 3 midwives that stoodout above the rest and stopped us leaving and made the experience bearable. To anyone looking to have your baby at Northampton I would expect excessive waiting about and the only thing you will be told is blame the lack of funding and the government.
