Review titled Above and beyond
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Caroline Mawston - Posted on 30 September 2024
Whilst driving home, (having cut our stay in the Lakes short due to illness) it was necessary for my partner to dial 999 as I briefly passed out. The ambulance service arrived swiftly and assessed me, deciding I should be seen by a medical practitioner before continuing home…2 hours away. They arranged for me to be taken care of at Penrith, instead of us heading further north to Carlisle. On arrival at the Urgent Treatment Centre I was seen quickly and further checks and tests carried out. It was a long wait, but I’m not complaining. The rooms and facilities are first class, clean, quiet and calming. All the personnel we saw were helpful and reassuring. I was diagnosed on the final test done ( isn’t that always the way!) but the previous checks and tests put our minds at rest. Prescription dispensed we felt able to continue our journey home. Very impressed with the staff and the facilities. Thank you!

I was on holiday and had a problem and was referred here and thank heavens I was. I saw a trainee who was absolutely brilliant - listened carefully and was very proactive and then her supervisor who was equally brilliant. They sorted the issue out and gave me confidence to deal with my own GP about it.

Thank you for taking care of us so well today - expertly assessed and discharged within 40 minutes - special mention must go to the two lovely triage nurses who were so kind to my son, taking his ASD seamlessly into account and using such kind and clear wording to ensure he was comfortable and aware of what was going on. A real credit to the service.

Staying at Center Parcs nearby, I was were worried when our son (aged 2) became unwell with a very high temperature. 111 sent us to urgent care in Penrith. The service was excellent and incredibly quick. We were seen by 2 nurses within 10 minutes and a doctor within half an hour. They were very thorough and brilliant with our little boy. Thank you very much.

Review titled Fantastic patient care

Our family visited Penrith for a couple of days between Christmas and New Year, during which time our son fell ill. Our son seemed to deteriorate quickly, so we brought him to the Urgent Treatment Centre, where we were seen very quickly. As well as feeling very poorly, our son has additional needs and finds communicating difficult. The staff were very caring and compassionate, taking time to put our son at ease and communicating very effectively with him. They were very thorough in their assessments and allowed plenty of time for our son to relax. We were grateful for the high standards of care that our son received and, as parents, felt very reassured. Thank you. The NHS at it's absolute best!

We were here in the Lakes on holiday when my elderly mam slipped and fell out walking. She was in severe pain when we arrived at the hospital yet she was seen quickly and x-rayed then her arm was put in a cuff and collar so we could get her home. Staff were kind and efficient. Explaining everything to us so we could continue Mam's care when we got home.

Review titled Amazing, kind and patient staff

I visited today with my toddler who had an ear infection in both ears which got worse over the weekend. All 3 members of staff who I saw were lovely and a credit to the NHS and Penrith hospital. The lady on reception who took the initial details was friendly and helpful, the health care assistant who we saw after an hour was lovely and distracted my son who was starting to get impatient and upset. Finally an hour later the GP we saw was kind and caring and (despite the waiting room being full and obviously working super hard to see everyone) gave my son such care and was genuinely concerned with how unwell he was feeling. People are so quick to criticise the NHS and its staff, but I couldn't fault the staff on what seemed to be a very busy Sunday in the hospital. Thank you!

10 year old attended the urgent treatment centre part way through a holiday. I was with one of my other children too. We found the care to be excellent from start to finish. I found the ANP and GP particularly lovely and inclusive in my daughters care. She had to attend another hospital where she remains under their care. We are very grateful for all involved. Made a tricky holiday more bareable! Thank you

Review titled Lovely staff

Only issue is the box of physiotherapy self-referrals is a cardboard box with loose lid on the outside of Reception, accessible to anyone, and it contains private and sensitive patient information.

Dear Mr Murphy Thank you for taking the time to share feedback. I am pleased you found the physiotherapy staff lovely. Thank you for your feedback on the cardboard box for the self referrals, which I have shared with the Head of Physiotherapy along with some information on a lockable metal post box that we use in Patient Experience Team for patients to post their completed surveys. Kind regards Sylvia Patient Experience Manager
