Visited the outpatients dept (neurology) for an appointment. Looked after extremely well by all staff, reception, nursing and my consultant. Appointment on time, Dr very friendly and explained everything very clearly and has arranged a review for next year. Thanks to all staff involved.

I had a appointment today ward 1b at Pilgrim Hospital .. I really can not praise the staff high enough absolutely amazing and the doctor I saw she was totally fabulous So ... if you're worried and stressed and ready to bolt like I was then hang in there -it'll not be anywhere near as awful as you're thinking and the staff are truly the best!

Review titled Fabulous service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Dian Hayes - Posted on 28 December 2023
Following a call to 111 I was directed to attend A and E. I arrived at The Pilgrim and was sent straight to the urgent treatment centre. I was seen very quickly and underwent an ECG and went over my problem. After speaking with a Dr. It was decided that I should be passed over to the Same Day Emergency Care team. They were so quick and immediately arranged a chest XRay and a blood test. I was treated with utmost care and respect by each member of the team I experienced. They reassured me and explained all the processes as well as my outpatients appointments. I could not fault any of it. A fantastic job done, and all within 4 hours. Thank you.

Thank you for the feedback regarding your visit to A&E Pilgrim, this will be passed onto staff. The SDEC pathways have been organised to ensure that people are seen in the right place for their clinical needs and it is positive to hear feedback from service users that it is working. Kind regards, Vikki Hoadley Sister

Review titled Great Staff but Diabolical Wait
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Linda - Posted on 17 December 2023
Took my dad to accident and emergency Mon 4 Dec 3.30pm. Terminal cancer, out of breath, not able to walk far. He sat in reception on a chair for 24hrs (apart from xray and seeing 2 doctors) until he got a bed on the assessment ward on Tuesday at about 3.20pm. His bottom was so sore from this. Terrible how busy it is. The staff though were amazing. So friendly, helpful and sympathetic. Sandwiches and hot drinks were given out regularly to everyone for free. Patients were being treated where they sat, including my dad who had 2 drips and medication. Awful state of all hospitals at the moment , not the fault of the staff but a terrible ordeal which would put me off going to accident and emergency. Unfortunately you have no choice if like my dad you are really poorly. He's still in hospital on a ward and the staff there are fantastic too. I don't know how they cope so well with how busy they are.

We apologise for your negative experience in our A&E. Unfortunately, the situation within the hospital was such that there were more patients needing admission into hospital than the number of beds available. With an increased number of patients needing admission into hospital, there is extra strain on the ED because those patients who are waiting for beds remain in the ED. Space within the ED is finite and this means that we have to consider the needs of every patient and make difficult decisions about how the available resources are allocated. We are looking at the furniture in the ED. There are some high back chairs and recliners alongside standard chairs, and we try to ensure that the furniture is suitable for all. However, we are limited in the type of chairs that we can have, as the chairs must meet Infection Prevention and Control requirements (be fully wipe-able) and they must be able to support patients getting in and out of the chair. We are reviewing whether we can provide pressure relieving cushions, which may improve patient comfort and also balance the safety requirements of furniture within the hospital. We are working to improve the experience of patients who attend ED by building a brand new ED and constantly reviewing our service. Kind regards, Vikki Hoadley Sister

Review titled No one has contacted me
by Loja - Posted on 08 December 2023
I fell on the ice recently. I got home and rested. I am in my 70s and live on my own. The pain increased and a friend took me to Skegness hospital (the month before I had taken a friend to Boston Pilgrim A&E with sepsis and had to stand for 17 hours for her to be seen by a doctor). Skegness were great. The urgent care department ascertained that one of the long bones in my leg was broken. However they took advice from the Pilgrim hospital, who advised no splint or plaster but rest and paracetamol. I was told the fracture clinic will contact me. I have been struggling on a broken leg now for a week and no one has contacted me.

Afternoon Loja, I am a staff nurse in fracture clinic at Phb who responds to care opinion, I am sorry to hear of your fall recently, there is a dedicated team outside of fracture clinic who make all of appointments, I am sorry that the information you received was misleading, as fracture clinic staff do not send the appointments out, but if you would like to contact fracture clinic on extension 01205 44 5294 and ask for a staff nurse we can signpost you to correct department, as we are keen to discuss this with you, kind regards Sn wilkinson, fracture clinic phb

Review titled Incompetent doctors, poor service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Maciej Wiercinski - Posted on 01 December 2023
I’m was booked to come with my son for 4:30pm, waited 3h after only to see doctor which had no clue, will care to diagnose pain properly and just issued antybiotyk. Whole system is so colapsed that google and chat gpt is better in diagnosing. Doctor was not convinced, not trying, so we wasted time. He should refer for ct scan at least or ask for more checks. It is very odd to see so well developed country like uk providing so poor medical services with very poor skilled doctors. Complete shambles and waste of time. No comunication, no motivation… just all work on basis to clear the waiting area in cheapest possible way for nhs. So basically he could not diagnose so yet he prescribed antibiotics… well done, everyone could do it in their homes

Review titled There was such a great team atmosphere on both wards
by Sarah08 - Posted on 22 November 2023
All the staff were so fantastic on the Pilgrim hospital day ward and ward one where I spent two days. They were so compassionate, they kept me informed every step of the way, checking if I needed anything and that I wasn't in pain. It was clean and organised. My only complaint is that the gluten-free food options weren't great, and when I would order something, they would sometimes send something completely different. The staff were always smiling, and there was such a great team atmosphere on both wards. They are all a credit to the NHS. Thank you for looking after me.

Review titled An example of just how good the NHS can be
by Nek2023 - Posted on 21 November 2023
I should have received a next appointment six weeks after my visit to the M2 Royle Eye Clinic at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston. It did not materialise. I chased up my next appointment up via the PALS service. The response was immediate and I have since had two appointments (within a couple of days of one another) and a third already booked. My most recent visit was an example of just how good the NHS can be. A well organised visit. The three different elements of the procedure that were carried out were performed in a most professional manner with detailed explanations at each step. I don't know what happened regarding the missing appointment but the last few days have more than made up for the delay. Hopefully a full diagnosis can now be made and a treatment plan for my WAMD and cataracts can be formulated.

Review titled I was very lucky to be in their care
by guidebe69 - Posted on 05 December 2023
Absolutely brilliant. I was so anxious when I arrived but they all made me feel so much at ease. They even made it possible for someone extra to be available to hold my hand. Cannot fault the team, I was very lucky to be in their care.

Review titled Kindness and compassion
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mrs Katharine T Manley - Posted on 17 November 2023
I was treated with great kindness by all staff. Time was taken to explain everything clearly and all staff I encountered where helpful, compassionate and warm. The experience of having to be there for investigations was made much more bearable by these dedicated and gentle people. Thank you.
