  1. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 December 2023

I was referred to Pinderfields critical emergency services from Pontefract after I fell at home and had a head injury. Pinderfields were amazingly kind and caring. I was really scared as I hadn’t been to the drs for over 20 years. Unfortunately I discover I had high blood pressure and a heart condition I was shocked and scared the nurses were so kind I can’t thank them enough. They were brilliant kind, caring and supportive. I was seen quickly blood tests were done ecg and given a diagnosis and medication that day I got a scan appointment within 5 days I left feeling confident that I could trust Pinderfields to look after me. Great clean hospital caring nurses and drs thank you

  2. Review titled Absolutely amazing care and service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Robyn - Posted on 10 November 2023

After rupturing my achillies, I can honestly say that the care I have recieved by the orthopaedic and fracture clinic at pinderfields was fantastic!!! Each time I have visited, the specialist has been incredible; he was super calm and fully explained everything really clearly. He spent as much time as possible making sure everything I needed was done to a high standard and he took the time to explain why as well, which was super important for me. Not only was the specialist amazing, but the nursing staff were so friendly, had a little giggle with me and made me so comfortable. I have been multiple times during my recovery and I have never had to wait long for my appointments, often being seen before my allocated time if I was early or needed a follow up test etc. The hospital itself is so nice, open and clean with lots of areas for something to eat and drink, and I really love the fruit and veggie stall outside. I'm almost disappointed that my recovery has gone so well as I don't need to go back again! I really want to say a huge thank you to the department for making this time so much easier than it could have been, and they definitely deserve the recognition. I feel I've been in very good hands and I am really greatful for their hard work and amazing attitude to care. Thank you x

  3. Review titled Gate 43

Rated 1 star out of 5

Reception staff have been amazing asked got answers pretty quickly. They are a credit to the ward. However some nurses were rude and abrupt when looking after my elderly mother and made not only myself but my mother very uncomfortable at times. The doctors etc are polite and respectful at all times. Communication needs to be improved in general between doctors and nurses staff as it caused a lot of confusion for my mother and myself especially when discharge to another ward to Dewsbury Hospital happened. I wouldn’t want any other patient to have to go through this. Overall much better experience than what we had in a and E a weekago.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments and for your kind feedback regarding our reception staff on the ward. It is lovely to receive such kind comments which I have shared with the team. However, I am really sorry to read of how some of the nursing staff were not meeting the values and behaviours of the Trust. We do have clear values and behaviours that all staff should adhere to and I am so sorry that this was not your experience. I have shared your comments with the Ward Manager and the Matron. It is disappointing to read of the poor communication between staff and fully acknowledge how poor lines of communication can indeed make things confusing and for that I am sorry. I have shared your feedback with the team. Thank you again and I wish your mum a speedy recovery. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

  4. Review titled Smelly and rude staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

Daughter had ENT appointment. She is autistic and I speak for her. Doctor tried directly talking to her even though I told him she wouldn't speak to him. He was asking inappropriate questions and was rude and abrupt. Coming in and out of the hospital is disgusting. Despite no smoking signs, constant crowds of patients and even nurses smoking near doors. Inside the hospital stinks of smoke. No one is told to move on. Hospital is not very welcoming. Staff are miserable and talk to you in a rude way. Cold and depressing and glad I don't have to come again!

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding both yours and your daughter's recent experience. I am so sorry to read of the events you have described which are definitely not what we would want anyone to experience when receiving care and treatment from our staff. We have clear values and behaviours that all of our staff should adhere to and I am sorry that the interaction you have described was not as positive as it should have been. I have shared your comments with the team so that they can share what a negative impact this has had on both yourself and your daughter. In terms of the smoking outside of the hospital, I completely understand your frustrations. We are doing everything we can possible to deter people from smoking in the area but it is a constant struggle. Our Head of Security is looking at alternative approaches to improve the situation and our security staff do everything they can do either move people on or to politely request they refrain from smoking. I have shared your email with the team looking into this and I am hoping we find a solution to this issue as soon as possible. Thank you again and I wish you both well. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

All nursing staff and doctor's work extremely hard and care for each patient as individuals. I was lucky to be cared for at Gate 45b by all members of staff. Thank you.

  6. Review titled Why have I been given no more follow up appointments

by Wayne Scrivens - Posted on 02 April 2024

I seemed to be struck of as a patient for hyperthyroidism and have been a patient ar this hospital for over 5 years with 3-4 monthly check ups to make sure my thyroid is monitored for safe levels ! Yet now it’s been 5 months no appointments and no mention of me at all with your department at this hospital also I would like to point out I was also a patient at another department at this hospital for another medical issue with regular check ups and seemed to be wrote of that as well ! Has this hospital declared me dead or something like that to save money on appointments!! Very disappointing and if anything happens to me medical wise will consider options !! Not sure what this hospital is trying to do to me causing me stress and anxiety that I don’t need ! Why have I been struck off from two different departments at this hospital regarding out patients !! No One seems to want to let me know !! And like I said I get the feeling it’s to save money !

Dear Wayne Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. It is clear from your feedback how frustrated you have been left feeling and for that I am really sorry. Without patient details, it is difficult for me to look into this further to try and understand why you have had no further appointments. Given that this is a public website, please could I ask that you contact our PALS team (myh-tr.palsmidyorks@nhs.net) with your details so that they can look into this for you. Thank you again and I hope you will be in touch with PALS. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

  7. Review titled More staff is needed

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 October 2023

Waiting far too long for my elderly mother in excuriating pain in her stomach and violently sick to be seen by a consultant. The consultant couldn’t do a full examination as no space and not even the basic of a bed to be examined on. The consultant was polite at all times but couldn’t do the basics of examining my mother. Still waiting in A and E 12 plus hrs in a cubicle in her wheelchair in agony to wait for a bed on a ward. Also looked dirty too.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding both yours and your mum's experience. The Trust has continued to see a high number of patients within the department which has meant patients have been waiting longer than we would like to be seen. I fully acknowledge that this does not make for a positive experience. I am really sorry for such a negative experience and that your mum was waiting a considerable amount of time in pain and clearly unwell. We are doing everything we can to improve the situation and actions are underway to help improve the experiences of our patients. I have shared your feedback with the team. Thank you again and I wish your mum a speedy recovery. Kind regards Clare Blackburn (Head of Patient Experience)

Camera viewing nose & throat - fascinating! Better if video recorded for patient to take home or small screen patient could watch. Very pleasant and unworrying appointment.

My 15 yr old son went to a&e on a Friday at 3.30pm with a suspected broken thumb (it was in 2 places) although we were there a while both nurses were lovely and kind and we expected to wait a while. We were impressed by the way they spoke to my son and the information given. Thank you for looking after him when everyone was so busy.

  10. Review titled My review is regarding the catering.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Tammy Firth - Posted on 25 October 2023

The food at pinderfields is lovely. I stayed 2 weeks and the only meal i didnt enjoy was the sunday lunch. (The beef was tough). I absolutely loved the jacket potatoes and cheese! But!! Since coming home, i have learned from my nurse that potato skins should be avoided for a while! Once i was allowed off my liquid only diet, jackets were on my menu at least once a day. I am not wanting to complain! But on those wards, surely they should let the patients know that they should not eat the skins.

I am pleased that you found the food to be lovely but I am sorry that the communication regarding what type of food you should avoid was not clear.
