  2. Review titled Wonderful clinicians

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Nick M - Posted on 01 October 2024

My wife had AF with a heart rate going from 140 to 163. We called 111 who arranged for a clinician to call us back. The clinician called back and arranged for us to be seen at QA emergency dept. My wife’s details had been sent to the hospital and she was quick seen by a nurse who confirmed her symptom. Whilst the waiting room was packed, with people standing, my wife was given an ecg, triaged and moved into the emergency dept Ambulatory area where there were 4 patients sitting in high backed chairs. The nurses were fantastic and although they were working amongst many patients they were empathetic and caring. It took 5 hours to get my wife’s heart beat back to normal. Whilst everyone we encountered was lovely, we felt that the night nurse in charge of my wife and the specialist registrar went beyond what one would expect of them. Whilst the politicians might say the NHS is broken, it’s not at the point of treatment. We have fantastic clinicians who work as hard as can be.

  3. Review titled Two outstanding staff members

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by megan - Posted on 04 September 2024

I was admitted on Monday the 2nd of September 2024 till 3rd of September 2024 on ward b6. The midwife on the night shift on 2nd of September was outstanding because even though this was a very scary time for me being someone who has anxiety of hospital made me feel really cared for and listened to i felt like nothing was trouble for this midwife because she went above in her care for me and was extremely reassuring. The other staff member that I would like to give my credit to the midwife she was covering on the lunchtime break on b6 on the 3rd of September. This is how a midwife should be she was caring, understanding and extremely reassuring. I asked if I could have a sweep to see if my dilation had changed as I didn’t want to stay in hospital anymore but was in so much pain in my lower abdomen i didn’t want to make decisions without facts. she performed the sweep which didn’t cause me pain at all. she also then ran through everything that I have been asking questions about for two days. I wanted to know about inductions and how they work. I wanted to know about all methods of getting my baby out and this has been really important as I hadn’t been told this by my community midwife. she gave me all the information I needed to make an informed decision about my care. So all i can say is thank you. I really hope your the midwife who delivers my daughter into this world.

  4. Review titled Appointment not relevant

Rated 2 stars out of 5

My husband with terminal bladder cancer was sent an appointment after 8 months of no communication from QA for 15th August 2 pm The nurse who saw him was under the impression that he had come to get his catheter removed. He does not have a catheter!, this was a wasted journey and time, why can’t the medical staff not check patient’s notes and this was another example of miscommunication between medical and administrative staff, oh yes it happened before. We are no further forward in the care of my husband.

  5. Review titled Excellent caring Medical professionals, nurses & Staff.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was admitted to Rheumatology as a day emergency case. From the young Rheumatologist who assessed me, the Consultant who carried out an ultrasound and the Doctors, nurses and staff who cared for me on the ward, all were excellent, professional and treated me with dignity and respect. The medical staff listened to my concerns, took my paperwork I showed them seriously and did their very best to come up with a solution. I don't really leave reviews but these lovely people deserve the very best feedback, they work hard, long hours even with little resources still manage to smile. I cannot thank these people enough for trying their best to help and find me a solution to my problem, I am keeping everything crossed that the solution works for me. Thank you again Portsmouth hospital emergency day care you all were brilliant.

  6. Review titled Outstanding service from staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I came in the a&e department after calling 111 and they advised me to go to a&e within the hour which I did, when I arrived there the receptionist took my name and details and then I had to go to another desk and register my details with them as I am from Surrey and it was my first time at this hospital, once I had done that I called in by the triage nurse who spoke to me about my problem etc and she explained to me that because I had a knee injury that she had spoken to the consultant and he advised that I have some painkillers then go home and come back in the morning for an appointment, through that whole evening in a&e from start to finish the 5 members of staff that I had spoke to was all amazing very helpful, always checking on me and keeping me updated absolutely outstanding service from all the staff, then I went home I then came back for my appointment in the morning I was sent to ecc building as I couldn’t walk a porter came down with a chair and took me to the centre, once I was there I had to wait to be seen which wasn’t long at all around an hour through that time of waiting the member of staff always keep me updated on how long I would be waiting also gave me strong painkillers and a drink, then once I was called into a room I was seen by a doctor we spoke about my knee etc he talked me through what the plan was going to be, which was giving me gas and air and then they had to straighten my knee and put it in a splint I was so scared and worried about having it done and how painful it was going to be, the staff was all amazing yet again all reassuring me that it was going to be ok and making me feel so safe and calm, once they came back to do the procedure I had 2 lovely workers I know one was a nurse and I think the other one was a hca, they gave me the gas and air ready to straighten my leg while I was out of it on the gas and air they was keeping me calm and telling me how strong I was and it was all ok and just making me laugh at all times they then done the procedure and I didn’t feel a thing at all I was so amazed by that and it was all done then I was given strong painkillers to go home with and yet again from start to finish on that 2nd day I was there I could see how busy the hospital was they didn’t stop running around non stop they all looked so tired but no matter how busy and tired they all was every single member of staff that day from a&e to the ecc ward was all smiling, so friendly, happy, helpful and all hardworking and non stop making sure I was ok and also around 10 minutes before I was going home a lovely volunteer ladie with a therapy dog called milo came in and he jumped up on my bed to sit with me and gave me cuddles and I was allowed to give him some treats, I work in a hospital as a hca in surrey where I live and I was honestly amazed at how hardworking and friendly and outstanding all the staff were at this hospital. What an amazing hospital this is and what amazing staff you have just simply outstanding

  7. Review titled Not answering phones

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 July 2024

I have tried calling the eye department every day for the last 2 months regarding an appointment for my 6 year old. Today I have tried every 10 mins to have the line ringing and the getting a voicemail message saying 'call back again' I understand and appreciate that you are busy. But to have called today alone 20 times to have the call not answered I don't think that's very fair.

  8. Review titled Amazing service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Wright - Posted on 13 August 2024

I self admitted through a&e on the the 2nd of July after severe abdominal pains following an Ibd diagnosis. I was swiftly taken up to ward c5. Where all the staff were incredible caring. This was my first experience of being admitted with an illness and I was made to feel at ease and reassured every step of the way. I was in there care for approximately 6 weeks and after a rollercoaster of getting better and deteriorating again I was finally fit to leave. The Doctors and consultants worked extremely hard to work out what was going on with me. which did leave them puzzled on more then one occasion after a complexity of illnesses however they rallied together and got me on the mend. microbiology was able to provide some ground breaking treatment with the support of other consultants and doctors. During my 6 week stay I was looked after by many health care assistants and nurses all of whom were amazing members of staff. The food was amazing never a bad meal. The cleaners were all friendly and carried out their duties throughly. There was two nurses that stood out from the crowd for me unfortunately I can’t name them but they know who they are. Nurse A who took care of me through many night shifts. Her positive energy is off the charts alway filling a room with light and hope as she enters. Bringing a smile and hope to you regardless of how bad you’re feeling. Her very caring attitude makes a nursing job the perfect career for her. Always so thorough in carrying out her duties. Nothing was ever too much. I wish her all the best for the future. On the day shift Nurse B stood from the crowd. Very caring calm and collective. Immediately made to feel at ease In her care and filled with confidence that she is highly trained. When she shared with me that she had been qualified for 2 months I was gob smacked. This young lady showed efficiency knowledge and a caring attitude. I wish her all the best for her bright future.

  9. Review titled Caring and understanding

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sarah - Posted on 19 July 2024

I am a carer and brought someone in for Day surgery who is very anxious around hospitals and health appointments the staff were helpful and understanding and made what was an awful day for the personal as comfortable as they possibly could by listening to us as carers on how best to support him through the process and they were very patient throughout we were especially pleased with the anaesthetists and after care in recovery where we were taken so we would be there when the person came around. The only downside to the whole experience was the initial waiting period which was 2 &1/2 hours which is always difficult to keep someone busy for when they are anxious and have low tolerance to waiting it would have been better to keep the person in their car until they doctors were ready but this was not an option. overall the staff were great it's just a shame we couldn't mention all of the staff but I would like to think they know the have done something positive for someone that is very vulnerable and we care very much for. Thank you x

  10. Review titled Excellent hearing aid service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Suella - Posted on 11 July 2024

After my husband having a badly fitting aid, causing problems, an excellent young lady, took it away and after several fittings, altered it to fix exactly. As he is profoundly deaf and has hearing only in one ear, it was such a relief to get it sorted.
