  1. Review titled Waters Broke & cannot be accommodated

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Mimi - Posted on 16 August 2024

I had my waters broken and had contractions. However, the hospital lacks staff and midwives. The long hours of waiting whether I will be taken to labour ward or wait for hours/days are giving me anxiety especially water has broke and has been getting contractions. Feel helpless in this hospital.

  2. Review titled Dove Team very supportive

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 October 2024

Most of my maternity experience was with the Dove team and apart from an error made on the system about my due date which was corrected I felt very supported by the team. I even called the number given and had a very easy conversation with the Dove Team member. I was also visited by a team member after I had given birth which I thought was a lovely touch as you always feel you are forgotten when passed onto another department.

  3. Review titled Booking an appointment

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by julie o'keeffe - Posted on 30 August 2024

Spent over 1.5 hrs trying to book an appt with centralised team and it was impossible. Despite having gynae secretary confirm referral accepted, triaged by consultant and on system with ref. no. and saying to be booked. Passed from pillow to post, spoke with 6 different people, cut off once, told different things by different people. One operator said, and I quote ' oh ****, too many numbers to remember' in relation to NHS no. The irony is not lost on me that I have had to remove the swear word used on the telephone, as the review filter wouldn't let me post it, but the telephone operator thought it was fine, even when i reflected back to him that it wasn't acceptable! Was told I might wait '3 months or 6 months or could be seen in September!' How is this helpful. As a patient if we are on a waiting list, we need a sensible idea of timescale, not meaningless numbers. Not one of the people i spoke to would give me details of the service/clinical/ business manager for gynae or central booking. Two of them said they did not know who it was - one said he would find out and call me back, he didn't. Surprise surprise. In the end I found a gynae consultant name and e mail sent a message, next day a service manager called back and I have an appt for 6 weeks time. Not acceptable - Centralised booking is a shambles - needs review please. Booking an appointment should be straightforward and staff should be more helpful. Eventually, grateful to the gynae business manager who did call me back and booked appt.

  4. Review titled Horrible ultrasound queueing system

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Frustrated - Posted on 23 July 2024

This is now the 3rd time we have come in for a scan where we are on time for our appointment, and we watch two full room's worth of people including people who arrived 30 mins late, and people whose appointments were 30 minutes after us, are seen first. This is supposedly "how the system works" and depends on what room you're assigned. As a disabled person with anxiety, this is a horrible experience and I've been forced through it 3 times now. Reception don't put me through to the Ultrasound Manager and are professional but entirely apathetic. This is a horrid experience and it happens again and again.

  5. Review titled Exceptional service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Katherine Rodgers - Posted on 13 June 2024

My partner needed an emergency (category 1) c-section in June. I couldn’t be more impressed or reassured by the team - they were unbelievably good. There are lots of reviews about “waiting times” etc - having experienced how exceptional the team at Queen Charlottes are in an emergency situation, I would accept having to wait a few minutes for a regular midwife appointment any time! We experienced an emergency requirement for c-section while on the labour ward - the team were absolutely incredible - mobilised at what felt like only seconds and our daughter was born healthy minutes thereafter. I really can’t be more positive about how exceptional the whole team are - when it really matters. I would recommend their services to anyone and they have my full gratitude.

  6. Review titled Worst midwife appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Julia - Posted on 11 June 2024

Me and my partner just went to our 26 weeks appointment which was at 10:20 am . After waiting almost an hour and a half we have been seen by one of the rudest person I’ve ever encountered. Instead of maybe apologizing for the long wait she shouted I sit on the bed and take my leggings around my hips. She hasn’t asked before touching my pubic bone for some measurements only after she did it. For the blood pressure she grabbed my arm and just did it. Didn’t bother to explain if baby heart beat was ok or if my blood pressure was ok. We the proceded to sit down on the chair and me and my partner had some questions regarding baby’s health movements , labour and birth plan but as soon as he started talking she cut him off and said we need to listen to what she has to say first and to be quiet. She then said very rudely to remove our baby scans from the folder we have. She continued talking about anti natal classes and when we have a question about if it’s better to do online or physical group classes she said she wouldn’t know that as the hospital doesn’t do groups. We tried asking again if family if it’s of any help with advice about newborn babys and she said that’s not her problem. Then she started shouting why I haven’t got a leaflet for the GD upcoming on the previous appointment at which point I felt sick of talking to her. I felt really hot and nauseous and upset so I’ve exited the room to go be sick. She in the meantime told my partner we are done and she doesn’t want me to come back even though he said we had some questions for her. Such a rude behaiviour. I’ve never been treated this way before especially by a member of hospital staff, and never seen my partner being shouted at by someone else either. If you can avoid this hospital , I wish I could change just because this one appointment was so upsetting. Definitely if we get this midwife again on our next appointment we will aks for a another one.

  7. Review titled Birth centre experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jess - Posted on 05 July 2024

I had my baby on 18th June at the birth centre and the experience could not have been better. I cannot thank the team enough for the incredible work they do. The midwives that looked after me were expert in making my experience very positive - I had a wonderful water birth. Most importantly, I felt in safe hands the whole time; the midwife immediately noticed that my baby was a bit floppy after birth and took immediate action. Everyone was kind, considerate and communication was excellent. The facility is incredibly comfortable, spacious, clean and even the food is good! I feel incredibly lucky to have this facility at my local hospital with its brilliant staff. Thank you so, so much.

  8. Review titled No Appointments

Rated 1 star out of 5

by ALC - Posted on 12 June 2024

Just been for a 31 week appointment and have been told there are no appointments available at 34 weeks. My understanding is this is an essential appointment and very important but the receptionist said there are none, gave no additional information and sent me away. This is incredibly scary- especially as a first time parent.

  9. Review titled Extremely rude midwife

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 May 2024

My wife phoned up the hospital extremely upset and frightened and was me with the most dismissive and obnoxious response from one of the midwives. Shocking and unacceptable behaviour from staff who are supposed to be compassionate and caring.

  10. Review titled Unprofessional midwife, Bad experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 May 2024

It was my first appointment to meet my midwife in Qcch, she met me the first sentence is why you need interpreter, then start to complain about this for 5 mins, I explained to her but she didn't listen and I have to listen her complaing. As I cannot understand her English, so I need to more time to answer her questions, she was very impatient. She told me don't eat folic acid or other vitamin after 12weeks, I asked her why, as I should eat until baby birth 3 months. She didn't want to explain, just said she hasn't been a midwife only today. I told her I Uterine fibroids report and thinking she might check about it and get me some advise, but she just said I won't see it, just wait for next scan here. It let me feel waste time and useless to meet midwife. I have never meet anyone so rude to me in the UK, I feel very uncomfortable with her and worried about my future appointment with her & Qcch other midwife, too worry to sleep at night. After this appointment, I want to switch other Hospital for birth. I cannot understand how Qcch got cqc rate for outstanding? It must be a joke!!!
