Review titled respect, patience and care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Heather - Posted on 07 August 2024
I woke up in ICU following a brief stay on a renal ward. Obviously disoriented and scared. The team were amazing, they'd looked after my husband and friend during my "extended nap". In 2 weeks I witnessed the NHS (including agency staff) at their best. They fully deserved the pay increase they were fighting for. If its hard to thank a single person for saving your life it's almost impossible to thank an extensive team of carers, Drs, registrars, nurses etc. Utterly humbled.

Review titled Unacceptable
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Frances Heath - Posted on 25 December 2022
I was informed that my daughter was in A&E on 23rd December after having a seizure. I tried all day to phone A&E and couldn’t get a reply. I found out later through another source that she was admitted to the AMU. I was not informed even though I am her next of kin. Today I have tried numerous times to call AMU but no response. I am unable to go to the hospital because I am disabled. I really need to speak to someone to find out how she is. I am worried sick. I find this unacceptable to cause such distress and will be making a formal complaint when it is possible.

Dear Frances, Thank you for sharing your experience with us, I am so sorry you were not informed that your daughter had been admitted via the Emergency Department and then had difficulty getting through to AMU at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I am also sorry for the delay in responding to this feedback due to the Christmas bank holiday period. I hope in the interim you have been able to get through to speak to someone and are reassured regarding your daughter's condition. Without your daughter's details I am unable to comment further on what happened and why you have experienced such difficulties but we are keen to look into this in more detail. Please make direct contact to discuss further with the Patient Relations team who can be contacted via email: PALS@uhb.nhs.uk or telephone on 0121 371 4400. In addition to this, we have a Carer Support Service who may be able to assist with future communication and any support you may need. If this would be helpful please contact the team directly via email: Carers@uhb.nhs.uk or telephone the Carer Support Officers on 07584 475802 / 07584 475787. Review titled Above and Beyond
Rated 5 stars out of 5

An X-ray was ordered by my GP on 10.12.22. Sadly I discovered the request went missing, whilst I was visiting my very ill mother. Two members of staff on the imaging reception went above and beyond anything I have experienced before at the QE. Their professional, friendly and understanding manner was remarkable. With their advice and help I was able to get my X-ray done with minimum fuss and only a two and a half hour wait, and this was without a confirmed appointment. The young lady and gentleman deserve being named to show my appreciation, but sadly their details are not allowed. Thank you for your care and kindness, it was greatly appreciated.

Review titled Fantastic nurse!
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ruth New - Posted on 20 December 2022
I want to thank the young male nurse on duty dated the 19th December in ambulatory care. He provided a compassionate and warm nature to my father who was undergoing cancer investigations. My father had a long lonely wait and this nurse made him feel at ease and conversed with him when he could. This has been a trying and stressful time but my Dad was able to tell us about this nurse and about his compassion and kindness. In this current climate I wish to appreciate all our nurses work.. it’s a difficult time for the NHS but the compassion is there.. it’s very much appreciated in a difficult time for us all. Thank you so much. Keep up with the good work! Please pass on our thanks to this nurse in particular - an asset to the NHS. Patient kn (carpenter)

Review titled Visit to A and E
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 December 2022
My 84 year old father who suffers from dementia was admitted to A and E following a possible TIA. We were transferred after a lengthy but expected wait to the Cohort ward which I believe is for people who find the noise and bustle of an emergency department upsetting. We were swiftly seen by a great Dr who explained his plan of action and dad had a CT scan, bloods and an xray before being seen again to discuss result. Whilst there dad was kept comfortable and offered refreshments by a team of paramedics and hospital staff. I was dreading this hospital visit due to current difficulties at hospitals but cannot thank the staff enough for the treatment dad received.

Review titled Excellent Team of People
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ron Hannaford - Posted on 30 December 2022
5 months ago I was diagnosed with a cancer on my lung it was also attached to a rib which it had fractured causing a lot of pain. Since the diagnosis I have been looked after extremely well by team of oncologists, nurses and radiologists. The oncologists are so easy to talk to and they tell you as it is so you know exactly what to expect. The Specilist nurses are simply marvellous, any problem or questions you might have I can ring them 24/7 and they sort out your problem or advise you. I have just finished a 10 day course of radiotherapy on my rib, before starting I was told of the side effects the treatment may course but a bit worried decided to go ahead. The radiology team in room 1 and 2 where I received the treatment were absolutely great, very professional and very kind, they constantly asked if everything was ok before and after. I know that’s what they have to do but they do it really well. Although I have cancer I count myself very lucky having such a great team looking after me and I thank everyone of them. I am writing this review mainly to thank the team looking after me but all the treatment I’ve received from the hospital had been excellent. It’s easy to write negative review if your appointment has changed or you have waited hours to be seen which isn’t nice I agree but when you see what the doctors and nurses have to put up with day in and day out I think they deserve a pat on the back and a positive review more often. I hope the team looking after me get to see the review so they know how greatfull I am.

Review titled Lovely people, warm, human, helpful
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jason - Posted on 07 December 2022
Endocrinology outpatients - I was called in and seen at a time when clearly others had been as well, but the wait was minimal, everything was explained exceptionally well (and I needed this despite being perfectly with it!) and a surgeon was even phoned up when on a day off. Everyone was kind and considerate and the professionals seemed to be at the top of their game even in the face of the pressure on every public service at the moment.

Review titled Responsive and Supportive
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I wish that I didn't have to use ophthalmology but I do; I cannot recommend them highly enough. My care started in 2013 and the level of care has remained consistently high, even during the pandemic: I am very grateful. My most recent interaction was with the Contact Lens clinic. I asked if my appt could be done remotely as I'd recently had an optician/optometrist review. My warm and friendly consultant called me and we discussed my ongoing management in depth; she listened to me and we shared decision-making, which is important to people like me with a long-standing need. It's tough for clinicians and patients alike, but this appointment provided everything I could want to support me. Thank you, team, you should all be proud of what you are doing: it is appreciated.
