  1. Review titled Kicked out after about 6 hours by nurse

Rated 1 star out of 5

by George - Posted on 20 August 2024

I had COVID and was coughing up blood, I phoned 111 who sent an ambulance out to take me to the hospital, they took me to the Queen Elizebeth Hospital at Sheriff Hill and I was left in a room by myself and was only seen when necessary, which I can understand as I had COVID, anyway there for about 6 hours, not offered anything for the headaches or aches, shivers etc. Finally, the doctor came around and told me I had a chest infection due to COVID gave me a prescription and then told me I needed to come back tomorrow to get it. He then asked how I was getting home, I informed him that the ambulance people told me the hospital would arrange to get me home so he went to see the nurse. Her attitude was shocking, she told me quote "The trust cannot afford to send everybody home, there's a door you can leave by that one" So I have no money, no cards and have to find my way back home with COVID and a chest infection as I live by myself, and the only way back for me was to walk almost 5 miles. Absolutely shocking how I was treated by this trust

I fainted in the hospital reception as i was leaving and the staff who came to help me were brilliant. I was looked after so well and one lady who arrived first was amazing. I would like to thank her. All staff in A & E were outstanding and put me at ease when i was very anxious

  4. Review titled Bcn poor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Cancer patient - Posted on 14 May 2024

I have been a breast cancer patient for 2 years and the breast care nurses I am under have been poor. I'm unable to get in touch unless you leave an email then you have to wait days still to get a response , no phone calls to check on you I haven't received a phone call in +6 months and even then I rang them, 1 lady fuelled me with more anxiety. I think it's a disgrace cancer patients are having problems like this in our situation - my oncologist is fantastic but these people who are supposed to be there for you also are no where to be seen or heard.

  5. Review titled Horrible service / wait times

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Adam - Posted on 08 May 2024

Been here since 9.30pm waited for over 5 hours so far and still not seen, been to triage and made to wait back in waiting area. Not a single person has seen a doctor from this wait area in over 3 hours. No cleaning in wait area, floor is dirty, empty cups, crisp packets and paper towels all over the floor and has been all night. What has the NHS come to

  10. Review titled Wonderful treatment from a wonderful team!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rosalind Johnson - Posted on 06 May 2024

Although I was upset to find out about my cancer coming back and needing surgery again so soon, I felt so relieved that I would again be in the care of the wonderful team at QE Gateshead. My first surgery was a long 8 hour procedure which relieved me of all visible tumours at the end of 2022 and my latest operation taking over 7 hours was even more complex, again leaving me tumour-free. Throughout the entire procedure, I was able to relax in the knowledge that the whole team were doing their very best for me, ensuring I fully understood my options and the risks involved. I really could not have experienced better treatment. The staff on Ward 26 were so welcoming, it was (almost!) a pleasure to be back there again - I certainly would not have felt that way anywhere else! The care and attention I received from the whole surgical team and anaesthetists was exemplary. I needed to spend the first 24 hours after surgery in the High Dependency Unit, where I was carefully monitored and so well looked after. Then it was back to Ward 26 where I continued to recover really well thanks to the care, compassion and kindness (not forgetting humour) of the whole team, who really work so well together. The QE is definitely the best place to receive treatment in my opinion!
