  1. Review titled Fantastic Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Dilys Gordon - Posted on 18 October 2024

3 weeks earlier I was in Orthopaedics for knee replacement. Unfortunately 1 theatre was ‘down’ and I eventually returned home 6.30pm that day. No operation. Recalled 16 days later, 7am. Second into theatre but didn’t make it. My stats were not good on ward but became much worse while waiting outside theatre. I could feel my heart pumping too hard but said nothing. (Ignorance ruled!). The anaesthetist was unhappy with my situation and another follow up ecg showed I was in no fit state to go through surgery. Everything was explained simply to me. I was leading up to having a ‘stroke’. The op was cancelled but the effort put into my case was truly amazing. Everybody was brought in to help. I was kept totally informed in layman’s terms. During the rest of my time I was taken to Emergency Day Care where standards and caring, yet again were equal to none. Yes, I was discharged with prescriptions, hospital and doctor appointments and the promise of my op taking place asap once my tablets took effect and stabilised me. During my visit, the care and love offered to me was truly amazing. I am absolutely grateful my ‘Atrial Fibrillation’ was discovered. As a strong person I had never properly addressed, to a medic, that I was getting very short of breath and was dizzy much of the time. I am happily on the road to a normal life again, albeit on drugs. A better outcome than that which I was facing had this not all been discovered. I will be forever in debt to the 30+ people who so professionally attended my various needs that day. Well done and thank you, Royal Berks. (My grandmother, was in Parliament in 1945 and an instigator of the National Health Service, and would have been very proud of your service in this difficult age/era). I’m not ready to be reunited with you Grandma. Thank you everyone.

Having received regular physiotherapy sessions for 8 months following surgery for a fractured wrist in June 2023, I have nothing but praise for the physiotherapists at the Royal Berkshire hospital who are skilled, caring and helpful.
