  1. Review titled Thanks RBH

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by John Walker - Posted on 23 November 2024

My wife was admitted to the ED by ambulance and the care given to her was first class its just a shame she spent 20 hrs on a trolley in the corridor. I realise this is not the fault of the hard working Doctors and Nurses so that just leaves the Management and my message to them is manage or go home. When I took my wife home I put her in a wheelchair and a burgundy clad women was blocking the doorway on the corridor and made no attempt to move despite seeing me approaching so I had to stop until she decided to move. Another Nurse saw me approaching and stood to one side and I thanked her so why couldn't the burgundy clad ignorant woman do the same?

Dear Mr Walker Thank you for your feedback regarding your wife’s recent admission to the Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Hospital and thank-you for taking the time to provide this. It is lovely to hear that you found the care provided by the staff to be “first class”. However, I am sorry that your wife had such a long wait on a trolley and note your feedback about when you were taking her home in a wheelchair. I will ensure that your feedback is brought to the attention of the senior staff for the department and shared with the team. If you would like to provide further information about your experience you can contact the Patient Experience team by email at patientexperience@elht.nhs.uk Many thanks again for taking the time to provide your feedback. 3. Review titled Bluebell Unit is brilliant.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have been receiving chemo for the past 2 months at Blackburn. I was quite scared the first week but I need not have been. All the staff on this unit are professional, caring, kind, experts at their job. They are also hardworking, human, funny and very special people. I have nothing but praise and eternal gratitude for the service and care I receive there. Cancer is not what anyone wants to hear but you have to accept it try to remain positive and take it day by day and let the experts help you through. The NHS staff deserve every penny they earn for the care they provide. A big thank you to the chemo staff and the lovely Bluebell Unit we now have at Blackburn.

  4. Review titled Very good

Rated 4 stars out of 5

    by G. Boothman - Posted on 30 September 2024

I had to take a great friend aged 91 to royal blackburn following a general practioners urgent referral. We went to the amu? where it was very busy but the staff quickly accessed him, made him as comfortable as possible then kept him in a bed overnight for obs. The staff in this unit were excellent even though the area was very very busy. The following day he was transfered to ward c5 where again the staff were excellent from the doctor, the Sister and all the staff who all had a great bedside manner and were very professional. Special shout out to young man from the Philippines. I spent many hours over a 6 day period with my mate so I saw the staff were always there and always helpful, well done.

  5. Review titled Waste of time

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 October 2024

Struggled on for seven months with pain and a great deal of discomfort (stoic attitude) Finally went to a GP who referred me to urology and gave me a prescription for a cream that wasn't stocked at the local pharmacy. They advised me to go back to the'GP' another prescription!! However, the kicker!! Told to wait until 16th September 2024 if I didn't hear anything regarding a consultation!! Contacted the department on the 17th September and informed that I have an appointment in September..............2025 How is that for service!!! Paid into National Insurance for over forty years and that's it!!!!! So; researched a private hospital and being seen within two months for £200 I don't expect special treatment, just treatment within a reasionable timescale. So, decided to retire early. No more National Insurance from me!!!! With the way the NHS has gone and my lack of use for this slumbering service over the last forty plus years I would be happy to have my money back. And by the way, still in pain!!! Thanks.

  6. Review titled Awful wait times

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by John Timmins - Posted on 06 September 2024

Visited on 5/09/24, wait for the scan was great but then had to wait for 2 hours for a follow up meeting. We were advised that this service always runs behind as they only allocate short appointments and everyone runs over causing delays. Seems very inefficient and not very person centred

Dear John, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on NHS Website in respect of your recent Gynaecology Outpatient appointment at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. I am very sorry to hear of your recent experience and have fed your comments back to senior staff. The Matron for Gynaecology apologises that your experience within the Gynaecology out-patients was not as you expected. We have recently implemented a one stop service to reduce the number of appointments patients need to attend. Unfortunately, sometimes patients do have a wait time between their scan and seeing a consultant. It is unusual for that time to be 2 hours; we would not expect that for our patients, and I apologise this happened in your case. If you would like to provide further information about your experience you can contact the Patient Experience team by email at patientexperience@elht.nhs.uk Or if you prefer you can discuss further any concerns you may have about our services with our East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Customer Relations team on 01254 733700 or complaints@elht.nhs.uk who can advise you of your options in raising these concerns further. 7. Review titled Caring, professional superstars!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Jeanette Parkes - Posted on 08 August 2024

Although I am uner the care of Haematology yesterday was my 1st visit to the Chemo unit at Royal Blackburn. I was very anxious and nervous about all of this. From entry to leaving I received first class care, support and treatment. The lovely young nurse who looked after me was fab. Explained everything as the the day progressed. Lunch, water, cups of tea helped the day progress. I was there longer than I will be in future to check no reactions. O came away with a sense of relief about my visit next week. I imagine a tough area to nurse but you are all the right people. Bless you all. I also had a lovely visit from my Haematology cancer nurse. Again so reassuring. Thank you all.

  9. Review titled Caring staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Finn - Posted on 19 July 2024

I got sent to ambulated care in a lot of pain and the receptionist could see how much pain I was in and got me seen as quickly as possible. The staff were really caring, they made me feel better even though I was in pain and took the time to understand my problems unlike other areas of the hospital where it’s rushed. They also offered me painkillers and a room I could rest in too. They took the time to look into multiple possibilities and kept me updated as much as possible as well as offering refreshments and sandwiches. Many thanks to the nurses and receptionist there for your help.

For the 2nd Time in 6 months the Pharmacy has been utterly shambolic. The treatment prior to this Dept being involved was exemplary. The log jam is incredibly poorly managed and needs addressing
