  1. Review titled Exceptional A&E Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs R Freeman - Posted on 09 February 2024

We visited A&E on Sunday Feb 4th. My husband was in an acute episode of severe pain and the A&E team were simply fantastic from the minute we arrived - the kind and understanding receptionist staff, the efficient and sympathetic triage Nurse Practitioner whose professionalism and care instilled confidence immediately and also managed his pain so quickly and thereafter every single nurse, doctor, healthcare assistant and housekeeping staff of the team whom we met were kind, empathetic and caring despite the challenges of an evidently very busy dept. My husband was treated swiftly and thoroughly. Winchester A&E are a really brilliant team and we were so grateful for the wonderful care and treatment we received. Thank you!

  2. Review titled What a shambles.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Chris - Posted on 21 February 2024

Labour ward was great but the Postnatal Ward was an absolute shambles. Absolutely short staffed and the staff that were there, were unhelpful and rude. There was only one midwife that actually showed an ounce of care. The student midwives were appalling and definitely need to training in how to talk to people. We were supposed to be discharged on the Saturday before 12, 9pm came and was told that we wouldn’t be out much before 1am, if at all. Given we had a newborn, we were told it was ok to stay the night and were told we’d be doing them a favour as it was one less person to discharge. Then told as we were helping, we’d be the first to go Sunday. Were we not, and were messed about until 4:30pm. I was told by a midwife in the end to make scene as people to who don’t push, get forgotten about. Utterly disgusting. What was a traumatic experience in the end, was made so much worse but this outcome. My wife wasn’t even offered to have her bed sheets changed in the four days she was there. Discharge procedure definitely needs addressing. It should not take 28hours to discharge a patient.

  3. Review titled Difficulty locating department for outpatient appointment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Mr Alastair Cox - Posted on 12 January 2024

I brought my wife for a scan in the Ultrasound department this week (January 2024). My concern is that there was no diagram or detailed instruction with the appointment letter as to where the scanning department was. This was our first visit and a diagram would undoubtedly have been helpful. Much of the hospital is not new and finding the correct location was not straightforward.

  4. Review titled Wasted time

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Neill - Posted on 24 January 2024

I went to the hospital with a chronic back condition that had kept me awake all night. I waited nearly 3 hours to then be told that as it was an ongoing condition, I should make an appointment with my GP. However, I was also advised that I could wait and see a doctor, but I was unlikely to get a x ray. Why didn’t the triage nurse tell me that? It would have saved me and the department time. On leaving, I was asked to sign a disclaimer saying I was leaving against advice! I altered it to say I was advised to see my GP.

Elderly mother with dementia kept waiting for 7 hours so far. A & E staff attitude not very sympathetic to family members. Poor impression overall.

  6. Review titled Great Care for Patients and Relatives

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ben Vallance - Posted on 31 January 2024

Recently I had to rush my daughter into the emergency department following a nasty workplace crush injury to her toes. She was in Alot of pain and likely in shock. The department was busy but we were booked in quickly and my daughter was administered pain relief immediately. There was as short wait but once seen the care she received was impeccable and she was made to feel calm and she could both she that she was in very capable and kind hands. There was swift X-Ray followed by more treatment and care. Everything was explained in a clear and concise way delivered with a caring attitude. She was then referred for an operation in the next 48hrs. After she was discharged I then found my car had a flat battery as I had stupidly left my hazards on. The lovely receptionist who had booked us in was just finishing her shift and she immediately offered to jump start us so we could get home without having to call the recovery service. It was a life saver and within a minute the car was running. So grateful for the care and support from the team in Winchester emergency dept. Truely Angels !

  8. Review titled System failure

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Alun r davies - Posted on 30 January 2024

Having booked a blood test on line it was clear on arrival the service was failing. It took staff 20 minutes after my arrival to advise that the system was down and that as a result of staff shortages they would have to write down the names of everyone waiting and that delays of 40 to 50 mins were envisaged. I left.
