Review titled Lovely professional staff but awful waiting room music
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Alison - Posted on 20 April 2023
I think RSCH is excellent. I am a nurse myself although I don't work here. However, the awful music in the waiting area made me feel much worse. Who on earth thought it was a good idea? The reception staff agreed that it was annoying. It is against all guidance for hospitals to have this noise - for dementia, hearing loss and neurodiversity in particular. I am a specialist in built environments so this is my field of expertise. Please, please take it out. It's not fair on staff or patients.

Review titled Amazing treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Daisy Catlin - Posted on 13 April 2023
The staff at A&E made me feel so safe and secure. As a newly turned 18 year old i was worried about being by myself especially when i was told i needed to stay over night however the doctors and nurses at A&E and the short stay ward made me feel so safe and prevented any worry. They allowed my mum to return as soon as possible, and they constantly reassured me whenever it was needed. My discharge the next morning was as fast as possible which put me at easy. I felt confident to ask any questions which is very unusual for me however all the nurses and doctors where very approachable. From going into A&E which a very fast heart rate and high temperate at 4pm to being discharged after multiple rounds of antibiotics, painkillers and fluids 24hrs later feeling much better the treatment that i received was amazing. I wanted to say thank you to all the doctors and nurses in A&E, the short stay ward and the ENT department for making my experience and good as possible.

Review titled Attitude issues
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 02 April 2023
I was advised by emergency cancer hot line to attend this a&e due to showing symptoms of DVT. On arrival the receptionist were friendly approachable and efficient in getting me checked in. However from the moment I was seen in triage to the moment I left the attitude of the doctors and nurses was unprofessional, unfriendly, not understanding and generally left me feeling uncomfortable to be at the hospital. They clearly do not read notes as on more then one occasion got my name wrong even after correcting them, and were unaware of my health condition’s or reasons for being there. As I it was mentioned I wasn’t a cancer patient so shouldn’t be worried about DVT. ECG carried out no top clothes on by a window with no blind, I was not offered anything to cover me. The main doctor I saw was extremely rough when examining me actually hurting me, was unaware I was a cancer patient even though I’d mentioned it several times - and was made to feel that I was wasting their time and would be wasting my care team at royal marsdens time as in his own words Guildford was a cancer hospital too. Undermining comments were made about my weight and I am still not clear if I have DVT. It was almost as if because I am an over- weight cancer patient with mental health issues I was not entitled to treatment. Additionally other Patients complaints were being dealt with the waiting room with no privacy. i shall not attend this hospital again!.

Went in for a total hip replacement and was so impressed by the quality of care I experienced. Everyone from my pre-assessment right through to discharge was so kind and caring. This is a hospital that has a very good working team. I was so lucky to have my op here. Thank you all very much.

Review titled Outstanding staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 04 April 2023
I am writing on behalf of my 84-year-old mother, who broke her arm after a fall at home. An ambulance was in attendance approximately 30 minutes after the 999 call and she was taken to A&E, then to the Emergency Assessment Unit, and finally to Ewhurst ward. Her total time in hospital was 7 days. Whilst it appears that the hospital is short of physical resources, every single member of the care and support team that treated my mother did so with exceptional care, diligence, respect and compassion. From the ambulance crew who treated her at home, brought her in and then checked on her during her time in the ambulance bay, to the EAU clinicians who helped to manage her pain, to the ward staff who cared for her and helped her start on the road to recovery, and finally to the occupational health and physiotherapy specialist who ensured she was ready to return home, her care could not have been better. There is much comment in the media of an NHS in crisis, but the clinical and support staff at the Royal Surrey Hospital represent the very best of the service. I am please to say that her recovery continues, thanks to excellent ongoing community support. Thank you for all that you do.
