  1. Review titled Fantastic team - true professionals

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Big Rob - Posted on 08 December 2022

I recently had my appendix taken out under emergency surgery and I was so impressed by the professionalism and teamwork of all the staff members I interacted with. I was treated with care and dignity, with speed and professionalism. From the lady checking me in at A&E, the Dr referring me to AEC, the nurses and surgeons assessing my case, the people performing the CT scan, more excellent nurses at EAU, the porters, and the excellent nurses working a short stay surgery, the anaesthetists, the fantastic life saving surgeons, the after care Drs (keeping the pain at bay) and the staff providing nutrition, cleaning etc. I was overwhelmed by how many excellent people I met along the way, how well they work together and how tirelessly they work, 12-13 hour shifts day after day. No complaints, just cracking on. Smiling, friendly, offering humour to help keep patients positive, and reacting modestly when thanked for all their work. The hospital itself was extremely busy with elective surgeries having to be put on hold (rightly) as there were too many emergency surgeries. I tried to ask each person I met how their day was going and how the workload was. They smiled and responded positively even though they were clearly very busy. Some were more honest about the workload being too much and it being too much for their own wellbeing at times. When I asked further this seemed to be due to a general lack of resource. It didn't stop the team doing an excellent job and potentially saving my life and many other people's that day as well I expect. But it concerns me what these truly caring professionals are asked to do, day in day out, overworked, under resourced. Relying on their good will to keep it all moving along. I wouldn't stand for it in my work an neither would my employer. The wellbeing of the staff is paramount so I only hope these exceptional individuals are getting the support they truly deserve. I can't speak highly enough of the staff at Royal Surrey. They helped with the birth of my three children, supported my wife through a Molar Pregnancy, took my dad's gall bladder out when he was visiting us once, and now my appendix too. We are very lucky to have this hospital on our doorstep in Guildford! I just want to thank everyone who works there. I am in awe, you are amazing and you deserve to be truly proud of what you do every day. It is appreciated! Rob

  3. Review titled Well organised and caring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My father was admitted to Guildford hospital over Christmas. The ward staff (Milford) were very caring and kind and when he came to be discharged the process was excellent. He was bought home by the hospital transport team and was met by the physio team who assessed his ability to cope and provided mobility aids. An all round great team effort. Thank you

  4. Review titled Compassion and care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Linda King - Posted on 15 December 2022

Teams at both Radiology and St Luke’s general team and CT scanning were compassionate , kind and very skilled. I was given reassurance and very clear explanations and I felt that I was important to everyone even though they were busy. I was embarrassed and felt ashamed as I vomited at St Luke’s all over the floor but the staff there were kindness itself and so calm. Someone tidied up quickly and without fuss and another escorted me to the CT department and informed the team and came back to let me know. I am a retired physiotherapist. I am deeply grateful to everyone I encountered and I have only admiration and the highest praise for everyone I encountered . Thank you very much

  5. Review titled Exemplary practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Verity Tregellas-Bell - Posted on 21 December 2022

Wow!! An amazing experience from the moment we stepped in. I attended 2 appointments here with my disabled sister following a particularly vicious seizure which landed her with your emergency department last week and back today to see the ear nose and throat team and maxillofacial. You made contact to align the two appointments for us (we live in Wiltshire- she is normally in a residential setting) so this was so helpful. We were seen on time, hospital was super clean and well signed. Staff were friendly and helpful and when we arrived for our second appointment 45m early- you managed to fit her in. My sister has severe learning disabilities and you were nothing short of amazing today and it really helped manage her anxiety. I work for the Nhs myself and I aspire to achieve the level of service we experienced today. Appreciate that you're a Good Trust- but you should be Outstanding! Thank you!

  7. Review titled Excellent experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by JulieA - Posted on 01 December 2022

I attended the endoscopy unit today for a colonoscopy, which I was definitely not looking forward to. From start to finish all the staff were caring and attentive, nothing was too much trouble, everything was explained beforehand and all my questions were answered and reassurance given. The unit was clean and bright and the whole procedure was very efficient and as pleasant as they could make it. Thank you endoscopy unit.

  8. Review titled Very positive experience during declared "critical incident"

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Alan Meredith - Posted on 03 January 2023

My mother was rushed into A&E with a serious heart problem. Even though the staff were overwhelmed with work, they took time to perform all the necessary tests and care for her through Christmas and now she is safely back at home. Thanks to you all. It was also wonderful to see the masking policy carried out throughout the hospital, well done.
